Vanessa Hudgens Auditioned For Twilight Sequel

If you didn’t already have enough disdain for Twilight, it now looks like a High School Musical star might be joining the cast. Twilight actress Ashley Greene revealed to MTV that High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens (you know, the one who is always having naked pictures of herself “leak” onto the internet) has auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater in the Twilight sequel New Moon. Leah is a bitter and cynical werewolf who likes to antagonize her friend Jacob Black. Ugh…

But I must admit, getting Hudgens aboard the project would be a smart move by Summit. I imagine that the HSM audience is very much the same demographic as the Twilight readership. And having an HSM star on the cast could only appeal to the remaining tweens who haven’t yet jumped on board the emo vampire craze. Any other film and I would be shocked that Hudgens would even consider a supporting role, but Twilight is one of those rare properties that anyone who gets involved will likely get a boast in star power.

  • not seen or read any of these books they just scream "tween" at me.
from the trailer the acting looks wooden and really poor so I'm not sure how much I could stand if 2minutes managed to put me off.
am I missing something good or because I am a male in my mid-20's I just won't get it.

  • If you go in with these preconceptions of "Oh god, it's a children's film, this is going to be bad." Your unsurprisingly going to leave with the same notions, as 'Twilight' by any stretch of the imagination isn't a film that will leave you speechless and spellbound with brilliant acting, a well-thought out plot and a screenplay fit for the Oscars, but it doesn't set out to be all of those things, it's set out to be one, single thing; ENTERTAINMENT! And it was to me.

I'm probably not in the demographics for this film (whatever those may be), but I still went to see it (with lingering preconceptions in the back of my mind), however I looked beyond that and actually found myself enjoying the film quite a bit.

See 'Twilight'. Don't see 'Twilight'. It's your choice. ;)

    Don't hate her
She's too cute to be hated
  • cute doesn't mean she can act ... I mean look at Jessica Alba!
  • -_-

Brilliant way to persuade people not to hate her. (sarcasm)
  • nara
    hey, I'm just kidding :P
  • I hate her. And i'm not kidding.
  • Well if you need persuading theres always the nude pick of her online somewhere....
  • teamNessie
vanessa hugens is so not right for the role.....
sorrie i think she's good for HMS but not for the
sage of twilight....you need someone who can really act
and annoy jacob...for those who think she cute so she
should take the role is wrong they need someone
    HOT NOT CUTE...!!!
  • Smart move for marketing, but this will only make this franchise worse.
  • yeah, it's all about the money, but she can't act, which will only make Twilight MORE laughable.
  • wiched99
warewolf huh, what was she HSM. anyone??????
  • Best line ever, "Emo Vampire Craze". I guess I really don't have room to talk because first of all, I haven't watched twilight. I guess I need to in order to catch up with what's hip and what the kids are doing these days.
  • i hope real vampires will rip those annoying emo kdis and Twilight fans into pieces... aahhh bloody pieces of flesh!
  • That's agreeable.
  • afewmilesofnight
i hate the character leah clearwater almost as much as i hate vanessa hudgens, so i think its a perfect fit. plus, leah really doesn't have that big of a part until breaking dawn, the last book. plus, if they go by the book, she'll have to cut off her hair, ha!
  • Rob
Just because she was in HSM, she will never be a decent actor at least a good movie star? Do people forget Will Smith started as the Fresh Prince of Bel Air? Or Leonardo DiCaprio started as the lovable homeless kid on Growing Pains because Kirk Cameron was getting too old for the Tiger Beat set? Or Ryan Gosslin being on the Mickey Mouse Club with Britney and Christina? Or Shia LaBeouf started as on Even Steven on Nickelodeon? Or Kurt Russell started his career making crappy kid friendly Disney movies that were the HSMs of their time?

I have to admit, I have never seen Hudgens act in anything. But she and Zach Ehron could be the Brad and Angelina of their generation in 10 years.
  • "I have never seen Hudgens act in anything. But she and Zach Ehron could be the Brad and Angelina of their generation in 10 years."?

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Are you trying to be funny???
  • MissSunshine
Yeah.. Many Twilight fans don't particularly care about the possible success or failure of Vanessa Hudgens' acting. That doesn't mean they don't like her either. You see, many of today's great actors probably weren't so great when they were just starting out. That's great and all that Vanessa Hudgens is trying to gain more experience through starring as a different character in a completely different type of setting, but many fans of Twilight don't want to see the movie sabotaged (even more) because of both that.
  • I didn't really care before this news and I don't now.
  • If Vanessa Hudgens gets naked in this movie, has a make-out session with Kristen Stewart, and after that they commit suicide by jumping in front of a moving train...THEN I will see it...
  • I have to disagree that this would be a good marketing move. The Twilight fans are not necessarily HSM fans and the buzz around the Twilight fansites is not good when it comes to the possibility of Vanessa being cast. A good number of comments I've read are against any Disney actors from HSM making the cast list. And while I don't have often agree with the commenters on those sites I have to agree with this time.

  • *rolls my eyes*
  • Rob
Have you seen Leonardo DiCaprio's Growing Pain episodes? How about Will Smith on Fresh Prince? Or Brad Pitt on Dallas? None of those guys were great actors as teenagers or in their early 20s. Who knows if any of the HSM crowd will become good actors as they grow up.

Go catch a Leo episode of Growing Pains and tell me that if you didn't know who he was, you would think he was going to grow up to be one of the best actors of his generation by his early 30s. Or watch Will Smith overact in any of the episodes of the Fresh Prince on Nick at Night and think he could ever produce a much more understated, but great performance like he did in the Pursuit of Happyiness.
  • Could be an interesting move, getting the HSM kiddies along to the teeny werewolf movie as well. In that regard, it would be clever casting. In general, it blows.
  • yep, it'll bring in more money... but it will destroy the credibility (if any) twilight has.
  • I disagree. Can you imagine "Batman & Robin" without Chris O'Donnell? Exactly. You can't. The movie's title wouldn't even make sense. Case closed.
  • Terry
    Twilight fans are stoked.
  • And stroked.
  • High school musical fans = twilight fans...Theres no doubt that this is a very smart move by the studios
  • prophecy_projectz
So everyone thinks the teenage emo goths and the teenage preppy jocks have the same audience ?
*Has no clue what the different teen demographics are, nor cares*
  • yeah, I don't see how that'll work
  • Answer = nudity.
  • ashlyn
lol vanessa hudgens needs to attach herself to another high profile franchise in order to keep whatever is left of her career afloat. the only press she gets nowadays is zac efron and he ain't sticking around forever. how else will a no talent famewhore survive in hollywood.
  • Wow. What did she ever do to you?
  • It would be a brilliant marketing move as Peter pointed out, but something which would really annoy me if she did jump aboard this project, is that Vanessa Hudgens can sing, but she can not act. Now as somebody who isn't afraid to break the mould and actually say I enjoyed the first 'Twilight' movie (I'd rather watch something, than be one of these pathetic band-wagon jumpers who just say it's 'bad' because they want to stay in with the 'cool' kids), this would be a bad move for them to make in my opinion.
  • she gets on my nerves
  • HAvent seen Twilight yet, im looking forward to seeing what the big fuss was.
  • There was no big fuss...unless you count the bad fuss
  • This sounds like terrible news to me.
  • evanz
Why would anyone be against V.H. being in Twilight? She's cuuuuute.
  • teanNessie
that's why she will never pull off the act as leah clearwether.....
  • Why be against her cast in the role of Leah?? Well, for starters she'd an awful choice for the character and Vanessa is a horrible actress.
  • =_=no nessa
It doesn't matter if she's cute or not, her acting is terrible and she could not pull of Leah's personality which will just anger the fans. Because a lot of twilight fans do NOT like HSM. I am one of them
  • Like it or not, for the next few years she will be a star, thanks to the young massive audience of HSM. Whether she can cut it in more adult roles past HSM and Twilight is another thing but y'know I have nothing against her so good luck to her.

And yeah, it's an awesome move on the terms of the marketing and casting department if it is true. She'd probably add $5 mil on opening day grosses alone.
  • she can't act, goddamnit!
  • I honestly don't believe she would add $$ to the movie. No one cares about Vanessa the Twilight fans only want to Kristen, Rob and Taylor. Heck, Leah doesn't even have that big of a part in New Moon.
