Last House on the Left Movie Trailer

Rouge Pictures has released the movie trailer for the remake of The Last House on the Left, the landmark suspense thriller that launched Wes Craven’s directing career. Is it just me or does this actually look like a fun thriller for a change? I haven’t seen Craven’s original in years but I don’t remember it looking this good. I’m also enjoying the extremely different and creepy cover of Sweet Child of Mine (anyone know who did it?) Watch the trailer and leave your thoughts after the jump.

Masters of horror Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham revisit their landmark film that launched Craven’s directing career and influenced decades of horror films to follow: The Last House on the Left. Bringing one of the most notorious thrillers of all time to a new generation, they produce the story that explores how far two ordinary people will go to exact revenge on the sociopaths who harmed their child.

The night she arrives at the remote Collingwood lakehouse, Mari (Sara Paxton) and her friend are kidnapped by a prison escapee and his crew. Terrified and left for dead, Mari’s only hope is to make it back to parents John and Emma (Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter). Unfortunately, her attackers unknowingly seek shelter at the one place she could be safe. And when her family learns the horrifying story, they will make three strangers curse the day they came to The Last House on the Left.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Apple. The Last House On the Left hits theaters in Spring 2009.

  • Well it was made for fans of the original...and even the old posters gave away story..this time around it's based on how amazing they can make it look....the director is a Greek filmmaker who made one of my favorite foregin films Hardcore...which I didn't think much of from it's trailers but it's first half had me in knots the same I felt when watching Requiem For A Dream...the man knows how to film brutal and violent scenes almost the same way Aronofsky does...by no means am I comparing the two I'm just saying he plays with dark material the same way....I'm for one hoping this is finally the great horror flick we've all been waiting for...

you're quit inconsistent in your taste peter.
you criticize paul blart: mall cop for being romantically formulaic in it's plot, while you cover other flicks that are just as formulaic/bland as paul blart.

you should think for yourself more often.
  • Wow this movie looks pretty good. I'm kinda glad I haven't seen the original to compare the two. This one looks good on it's own.
  • Patrick
The cover is by "Taken By Trees." I like the cast so I'm probably in.
  • Aaron
You're right, Stephen. The fat-underdog-who-comes-through-in-the-end-and-wins-the-cute-girl-with-his-quiet-charm formula is SO much more underplayed than a family that enacts brutal violence on those who have done so against one of their own. Apples and Oranges my friend.
  • Marc
the cover is by Taken By Trees
  • Dan
I never saw the original, but this looks awesome. I love movies that don't follow a conventional formula. The family-enacting-brutal-revenge twist makes me happy and excited.

i wish they had at least kept the "Its only a movie" gimmick from the original. that was something i always thought made it so cool.
  • question. will there still be a dick bitten off in this?
  • Unholy Monster Thing
    No that's 'Teeth'
  • yes. Teeth also features dicks bitten off. however, not by mouths, but by a pussy. with a mouth. in Last House on The Left, there is a famous dick bitten off scene. by a person. the mother. Spoilers. whoops. not my fault.
  • The Spelling Bee
Hey uh, Peter, it's Rogue Pictures, not Rouge. Common spelling mistake... but it turns it into a completely different word.
  • i gotta admit, the last ten seconds made me smile.

but im not too keen on the whole acoustic 'sweet child of mine' cover

besides that, im gonna keep an eye out for this one.
  • I like that music selection
  • It will be interesting to see just how brutal and graphic this movie is compared to the original. The gang in the original movie was no name actors, and it seemed veryreal, almost as if it was filmed as it happened. But I doubt they include the penis biting, or the forced lesbian rape (which was very creepy). The movie was just downright brutal from beginning to end.

That being said, this film looks pretty damn good. Of course, trailers can be cut to maximize the effect but it's obvious the filmmakers care greatly about the source material and doing it justice, and not being thrown in with generic remake crowd. And Garret Dillahunt is a GREAT actor, and excellent at understated, creepy villian roles. He played about 4 different characters on Deadwood and is now starting to get some juicy roles in film.

  • Yeah, I think the trailer looks good, but the "Sweet Child of Mine" felt a little out of place, like it should be used in an uplifting, feel-good movie. Something creeper, minor key, would have been better.
  • I want to see this. I also want to see the original now.
  • ooOOOoo this trailer kinda makes me feel all nice and warm inside lol.
  • downrightsexfreak
OMG! i thought i waz da only one who felt like dat!! i get all "excited" when i c it!!
  • Rob
Hey it could have been worse. It could have been that god-awful Sheryl Crow cover that was on Big Daddy. I couldn't even listen to the Guns version of the song for a year after I heard Crow's version. it was that bad.
  • Sorry about the double post
  • Rob
It has been over a decade since I saw the original. It was groundbreaking even when I saw it which was probably 20 years after it was released. I agree that they will never recreate the brutality of the original because some of the scenes disturbing even to the torture porn set. I just hope they can come close to matching the intensity of it.
  • I do like that Craven is involved in the remake. Usually that doesn't happen.
  • Sean
They're not going to be able to recreate what made the original amazing but it looks like they may adress the problem of I had with the original of the acts of vengeance being over too quickly. Only problem I see from the trailer is the baddies don't look nearly as sick and evil as the originals which might be intentional I guess.

good call on the film and the song peter. both got me excited for a film i would normally ignore. i might not see it opening night, but i will check it out. i love the cast especially.
  • i think the contradicting ideas with a brutal movie, coupled with a soft version of that song were used perfectly. we don't always need intense strings or hard rock. sometimes the more subdued stuff has a better impact.
  • My sentiments exactly. The light music with its soothing vocal range gives you a false sense of calm when in reality utter chaos and madness is reigning. I think it adds to the obscurity and obscenity of it all.

    BOOOO! FUCKING BOO!

I had a sliver of hope for this movie, but after watching that trailer it is all gone.

I'm glad that they showed 75% of the twists and turns, so there is no need for anyone to see the film.
  • Why see the movie, they just gave it all away in the Trailer. But eh, doesnt look too bad, looks like a fun film.
  • I never saw the original, so I have no basis for comparison. But just as a movie all its own, it looks pretty damn good!
  • Aaron
I agree with Brodeo. The "It's Only A Movie" gimmick was what enticed me to watch the original. I think they should have included that as a teaser for the remake.
  • Guess we're just going to remake everything...

Can someone name me a good American horror movie made in the last five years?
  • The "Sweet Child of Mine" song really dosent make this movie look scary. Am i wrong?
  • 10c
Never heard of the original or this remake until now, and from the trailer it looks to be an awesome movie. Then again, I'm a sucker for revenge scenes.. so having one big one is selling it.
  • it looks boring.
  • i hate trailers like this that gives away the whole plot of the movie but still it looks like a fun movie .
  • Flax
    It's only a movie...it's only a movie...damn that would have been great.

As to people who are upset that they gave away the movie plot, I'm sorry, but who honestly cares these days? Tons of mediocre comedies and horror movies give away things like this all the time, and they're still good to watch.

yukface27, I boo you for trashing on this trailer. Man, this trailer alone was better than a quarter of the movies I saw in 2008. No one is going to see a movie about girls being kidnapped by jailbirds, but jailbirds that kill the girls and stay at the family's house with sweet revenge being served for dessert is something anyone could enjoy.
  • Looks like Dexter has a family now!
  • That gave away alot of the movie, seems to me it would have been more effective had I not watched that.
  • Dave
Did I just see Chromartie's head in a microwave?

    Im Sold.
  • That gave away alot of the movie, seems to me it would have been more effective had I not watched it.
  • Yeah, same way I felt...but the end was pretty cool with that guy's head in the microwave...
  • As long as they stick to the horrifying brutality that the original 'Last House On The Left' contained I'll be happy. I will be expecting family related violence on an unprecedented scale with chainsaws, knives and every available household appliance being used as some form of weapon! (I wouldn't mind if they kept out the rape scene from the original)...
  • Josh
    Yikes....looks pretty awful.
  • Looks really really good IMO
