Update: Apparently these are not the official Razzie Award nominations. Here is the e-mail I just received:

One of our Voting Members posted the preliminary choices from their RAZZIE Nominating Ballot on the MTV Movie Blog, apparently unclear that it was NOT a final list, and from there things have “gone viral” — With even the IMDb today posting what purports to be a list of our nominees for this year’s 29th Annual RAZZIE Awards.

ACTUAL nominations will be announced on January 21 — The now traditional day before The Little Gold Naked Man Awards unveil their choices. While this is a situation entirely out of our control, I do apologize for any confusion the bogus/viral news items may have caused.

The 29th Annual Razzie Award Nominations have been released. For those who don’t know, the Razzies cellebrate the worst films and performances of the year. I’m surprised to see the hate for Rambo and Sylvester Stallone, which were nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst On Screen Couple (Sylvester Stallone & His Ego… very funny), Worst Director, Worst Sequel and Worst Career Achievement as a lot of my friends enjoyed that film. They got the worst movies right but I think the worst actress/actor is way off
  • They got the worst movies right? Um, no. Rambo was really good and doesn't belong anywhere near a list like this. Speed Racer is just as misunderstood as The Spirit, both of which are great films, so I feel bad that SR gets lumped in with crap like Witless Protection and Disaster Movie.

I really wish people could get off their high horses and band together against the real shit that's produced by Hollywood. Fine, you didn't like Speed Racer/The Spirit/Indy 4/High School Musical/etc., but if you can't tell the difference between those films (all of which have their redeaming qualities when taken in context) and garbage like Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Disaster Movie, Spartan Movie, Jackoff Movie, Etc. Movie, Witless Protection, etc. then you're opinion actually doesn't count.
  • sean coates
lol.... your nuts peter speed racer was visually stunning and it was amazing in imax i was on shroooms but still it was fun ride
  • I didn't make these nominations
  • ROFL
  • I agree, Speed Racer was awesome and had stunning visuals
  • Visuals were good but the movie was overall poor.

Not saying it deserves this list, but it's closer to this list than a best movie list.
  • Speed Racer was a great flick. Campy? yes, but it was intentional. Did ANYONE ever watch the cartoon for God's sake?

My little cousins love that flick.
  • Sure I watched the show all the time, but that doesnt really have any impact on the quality of the movie. Being completely open-minded, it just wasn't very good. It wasn't the worst movie of the year, especially in a year with Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans, but it certainly wasn't close to the top.
  • Goro
Agreed. Speed was a fun (if somewhat overlong) movie; there were at least 50 movies less enjoyable than Speed this year. Heck, maybe 100.

It was certainly better than Beverly Hills Chihuahua or 27 Dresses or the Love Guru or Never Back Down, even Babylon AD.
  • tobor68
yeah, speed race was Shadow fun. it doesn't belong on this list.

    where's the spirit??
  • Nick
I agree. It wasnt a super awesome movie but it was fun and I enjoyed myself. John Goodman was great as usual.
  • I can't live in a world where Speed Racer gets the worst movie of the year and The Spirit is not even nominated. There better have been some release restrictions that prevented Spirit from nomination. Otherwise, I think that Obama should carpet bomb the shit out of these people. That would be change I can believe in.
  • See, that is just more evidence that the film is horrible beyond measure because to enjoy it 'shrooms' are a requirement.
  • False.
I loved it, and I was not on shrooms, just like many people that enjoyed it.
It was campy and fun, and I couldn't have asked for anything more from it. It is in my top 20 for the year.
  • pangloss09
speed racer was awesome. visuals were unbelievable and i loved the campiness. i could watch that movie a hundred times.
  • Seriously, Speed Racer was not that bad. Neither was Indy.
  • Indy was ok, not that great.
  • Indy was THAT bad. I know, it's difficult to remember, but they DID rape him. Just think about it. It happened...
  • I agree with Indy, but negative on Speed Racer. That movie sucked and deserved to be nominated.
  • Not even a nomination for The Spirit?
  • That does it. I call Shenanigans!
  • I swear to god, I will pistol whip the next guy who says Shenanigans.
  • Thrillhouse
Indy was terrible, but only compared to expectations and past accomplishments. It wasn't outright "bad" on its own.

Speed Racer was NOT bad. Not "razzie" bad. It accomplished exactly what it set out to do and in spades. I thought so, anyway.

It doesn't belong on a list with Meet the Spartans or Disaster Movie, certainly.
  • Wheres the love for The Spirit?!? I cant believe that didn't close house on these nominations. I think The Happening will dominate the razzies even though I personally don't think it as bad as most movies on the list- but yes it is a bad movie. I dont get why Tom Cruise is on the list. He wasn't good in Valkyrie but I didn't think he was bad- except for the hail hitler scene. I also enjoyed Speed Racer. I didn't like Rambo particularly but it can still be entertaining at times. I dont get why Indy 4 is on the list, it wasnt a good movie and yes a big disappointment but its not terrible- X Files 2 should be on the list not Indy. Now I just picture M. Night and Uwe Boll shouting "Why cant people see the genius in my films!". How could M.Night stoop so low I will never understand. I am not quite on the M.Night hate team but I just cant say I support him now but I hope he gets a comeback soon.
  • don't you mean, "Wheres the hate for the spirit?"?
  • mackins2ez
Rambo wasn't bad either....it was made as just a pure action movie....if that is a terrible movie, then Shoot Em Up would be on a list like this (not sure if it was on the list last year)
  • Paris Hilton deserves a Razzie. can't fucking stand her. at all.
  • No, an award would give her credibility. I don't want her to get an award for anything. Just go away.
  • gotta agree with vad, if we acknowledge her (for better or worse) she'll stick around. maybe if we ignore her and pretend we're not being blinded by all the sparkles she wears, she'll wonder off into the rainforest or something.
  • ZachBob
The Spirit wasn't nominated because it missed the window of nominations. Rambo, though?! Yeah, it's not a "good movie" but that shit was way entertaining. How many other flicks had dudes throwing babies on bayonets into fire? And the Tom wasn't that bad in Valkyrie, still an enjoyable movie.
  • ROB
I think Friedberg and Seltzer will sweep the Razzies, but that's just me.
  • Disaster movie and Meet the Spartans should be competing for the All-time Razzies
  • Austin
NO The Spirit ??? I thought Rambo's kinda cool...
  • I don't think Rambo, Speed Racer or Keanue really deserve to be nominated. Rambo was a pretty decent and entertaining action movie. Speed Racer has amazing visuals as was decent for a kids movie. And Keanue played the part perfectly I though, just everything else about the movie was bad.
  • Couldn't have said it better myself...
  • Anyone from The Happening gets a bad rap. That was M. Night's fault.
  • /ambient
How come Indiana Jones wasn't considered for Worst Picture? I mean, it wasn't. My thoughts are purely political. I.E. Someone needs to tell George Lucas that his ideas were valid back in the late 1970s.
  • Bshkrn
Im sorry but Rambo was exactly what I expected and complete and utter total awesomeness.
  • Is that the short list or actual nominations? Usually there is only five nominations, so they must have thought 2008 was a pretty bad year for movies to nominate so many in each category!
  • juicebox
I'm surprised Jayden Smith didn't get a nod for TDTESS... maybe give him an honorary award, like Tatum O'Neal?
  • Rambo was probably one of the funnest movie going experiences I had all this year, no way should it be on the list. Sure Stallone had some cheesy dialouge, but we've come to expect that from his screenplays. Action packed, plot thin, blood-filled and awesome. Everything we could've asked for he delivered on.
  • REAL6
HAhahah@ Rambo and Seeed Racer as worst movies???

Are you serious, they both rocked!!!!
  • Rambo?! Seriously?

    That's just crazy.
  • _$pinster_
Keanu Reeves in street kings was a good performance maybe u should rethink that one.
  • well, the Razzies are crazy this year as usual. Interesting choices. I would like to know some of the reasons. Why Tom Cruise, or the Rambo and Speed Racer hate?
  • cool beans
Speed racer was the worst movie ever made. "I got to do something and racing's the only thing I know!" Emile Hurst for worst actor, too.
  • wintermuted
Complete disagreement about Speed Racer. Sorry. This piece will be around long after a lot of these are forgotten...It has something a lot of people are forgetting to include in their moviegoing habits; A sense of fun & daring. Perfect? No way, but far from disposable. Cult Classic status, just wait.
  • Brian Rodden
Worst Career Achievement: Keanu Reeves! Gimme a break, the man is awesome! I love the whole dumb/vacant thing he's got going on. Bring the ruckus haters.
  • Yeah i mean he wasnt that bad in the film. I thought he was awesome. Sure it was a really dead-pan performance, but that doesnt make it bad...
