MMM, why did they add ben kingsly? well watch sexy beast and then you will know why. Arnold and willis will be in it, but wtf was van damme thinking when he turned down a role in the film, looks like he will be stuck in straight to dvd land forever. The cast is awsome, none are too old as all in excellant shape and the best at their type casts, couture is a very tough man so I hope this is the film that makes him shine, probably not.... Looking fwd to it, bring back old 80's/90's action movies, they rock!!

Just from the brief description of the film, this sounds like it's going to be good.

let's all just admit to each to each other right now that this is going to be THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE...ever...really, how can it not be?

Van Damme turned down the role because he is struggling to break that mold, now with roles in J.C.V.D. and Full Love working for his advantage as an actor, as well as his reluctance to play a villain role. Nevertheless, he also had signed onto the next 'Universal Soldier' film, if production commences.

My sources come from someone who works at TalkCinema in NY and had asked the producers to send casting information as soon as they got it, knowing I have huge enthusiasm for Stallone's movies.

Also, off-the-press news, tho most movie places have already reported it, is that Mickey Rourke has signed, either for the role of Emanuel or Church, tho due to the script it's more likely Emanuel, and the deal was just sealed to get Brazilian Model Juliana Paes for a role, possibly as Karen. Rumblings also seem to indicate that Stallone has been fervently trying to get Ben Kingsley as General Garza, and that he may or may not has extended the invitation to play Church to former T&C co-star Kurt Russell, saying getting Schwarzanegger while in office is becoming "more unlikely every day".



Update:

Despite trade reports, Rourke WILL appear in the Expendables. His filming won't call for more than 3 days work and therefore will be able to work around his Iron Man 2 role.

- The movie was greenlit with Jason Statham, Sly and Jet Li on Board. Jason Statham will play Lee Christmas, Sly will play Barney Ross, and Jet Li will play Kong Kao.

- The first person offered a role afterwards was Robert Knepper, who was offered a role by Sly himself on the red carpet of Transporter 3. This role is rumored to be that of Richard aka the "Gay" Expendable.

- Soon Afterwards, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture were signed. Dolph Lundgren is most likely to play Gunnar, a treacherous Expendable. Randy Couture is rumored to play Dan Paine, the main henchman of the film.

- Stallone offered the role of Hale Caesar aka the Black Expendable to Wesley Snipes, who couldn't take the role due to his impending jail sentence. Stallone also has given an open offer to Arnold Schwarzanegger to cameo as Church, the man who hires the Expendables.

- Forest Whitaker is currently in negotiations to play Agent Sands, which is almost a done deal. He is a CIA Agent hired to track down the Expendables. Sly expressed interest in casting Sandra Bullock as Agent Lickson.

- No Casting Speculation so far on:
B.W. Monroe - the french intelligence officer
Emanuel - the seedy south american contact of the Expendables
General Garza - the main villain
Karen - Lee Christmas's ex-fiance

this better be a good movie with this type of star power. cause i will be pissed off. it would be like righteous kill. how did it come to the dude who directed 88 minutes. if scorsese directed that same script, it would have have been so much better... wouldn't be great but it would have be much better.

What a cast! Pulled off right, this could be one of the greatest action movies of the decade, with some of the greatest acting talent Hollywood has ever seen! Now Stallone, get your pen out, and start writing a script with the genius, style and tenacity that 'Rocky' had!

This will be the manliest movie of all time.

Wow! Talk about a guilty pleasure film. I'm there.

This movie is sounding more bad ass by the minute. Can't wait for this one and Stallone knows what he is doing. He doesn't get enough cred, people put him in the same category as Arnold and Van Damme but he has more talent than both of them put together, but that isn't saying much because most people have more talent than those two put together.

Jean-Claude Van Damme needs to be in this too. JCVD was in my top 10 of the year.

Van Damme turned the role down. Thats why Dolph is in the movie. And Couture's part was supossed to be Wesley SNipes but i dont know what happened?

Steven Segal can stay where hes at. He's never been good. Snipes is still doing his thing.

This has the best cast of any action film... ever. It's worth going to watch it just to see these guys together on screen. I seriously, seriously hope Stallone pulls this baby off.

I don't know man. Stallone is old. Where the heck has Dolph Lundgren been for the past 10 years? And Jason Statham's movies are pretty much hit and miss. Although, Kingsly and (the much hyped) Rourke might bring a little more acting cred to this.

SO what is Stallone is old, i bet he could take you on. Lundgren hasnt gone anywhere, he's been directing his own movies are staring in them. They might be B movies but at least he's making money and has a hugh following still.

Stallone could definitely pound me into the ground, no contest. It's just sad really. In the 90s Stallone tried to be a "real" actor, not just a cardboard action hero, and failed. It's just sad to see him trying to recapture his glory days by revisiting old franchises and genres just to make a buck. I mean, the guys is 62. Other actors have given up their youthful action movies when they hit a certain age. Maybe Stallone should do the same.

That's why he's expendable! He's so old and stuff.

Stallone deserves more credit than he gets. The man wrote Rocky, and co-wrote many of his other films. He also directed Rocky 2-4, Rocky Balboa, Rambo and others. He has way more creative talent than a lot of non-'washed up' stars. Also, if you saw Cop Land, you'd know Stallone didn't fail at "real" acting.

I totally agree. It's sad that people only think he's commercially viable as an action star, and it looks like he believes it too. Copland was good, but a box office bomb. I think Stallone should do a Clint Eastwood, and get out of action movies, do some directing and build his reputation as an artist rather than a body.
