Japanese Watchmen Movie Trailer

ComicBookMovie has posted a new Japanese movie trailer for Zack Snyder’s big screen adaptation of Watchmen. The trailer isn’t just a rehash of all the footage we’ve seen thus far (yes, there is some of that), it’s actually filled with a lot of new footage I’ve never seen before. We get to see some of Nixon, Castro, a presidential assassination, and much more. The trailer also further proves my theory that everything is cooler in Japanese. Watch the new trailer below and leave your thoughts in the comments.

And don’t be worried by the March 28th release date at the end of the trailer. Japan was one of the only markets not getting the film on March 6th. The film has not been pushed back (yet…).

There seems to be an overemphasis on Nixon in that trailer. Otherwise, the footage looks good. Love the clock in the boardroom.

Is that when the Squid appears?

    Please tell me it is!
  • B33
No squid. Just a bunch of typical explosions that completely butcher the ending.

Suppose I'll still give the film a shot, regardless.
  • WOW. Ok, how much money do you thing Fox is holding out for to get this thing in theaters? Got to be a nice sum....
  • wow
  • I like how they're expanding on stuff that was only mentioned in the book, such as The Comedian's "involvement" in JFK's assasination.
  • mcgruff
yeah i was about to say, i definitely dont recall the comedian killing JFK in the book. interesting, and potentially, controversial?
  • he didn't look like he was on a grassy knoll though...
  • Although it does seem really cool in Japanese, I think this trailer almost gives too much away, especially if you've seen the other trailers. But I have to say it still looks awesome.
  • GOD; EVEN COOLER,BEST TRAILER EVER.AWESOME! i pee myself...
  • adamus maximus
Oh man they showed the knot tops doing their halloween killing? Jeeze their are a lot of shots that I'd think would give too much away, but I don't know how someone who hasn't read the GN would feel about it.
  • adamus maximus
    sorry. * there
  • Palmer
Probably the best trailer I've seen yet for the movie (aside from the first one). And anything with Nixon is good...even if he's a disembodied head on top of a robot.
  • Awesome trailer, although I'm getting to the point now where I feel like I'm seeing too much from the movie. With all of the trailers and those video journals, I'm scared of having a lot of the movie 'spoiled'. I know it's my own fault, but I have very weak self control when it comes to this movie!
  • kingdarius
Man that was excellent, i absolutely know nothing about the graphic novel but im definitely going to see this
  • No Squid.
    No Respect.
  • silly extremists.
    it is an adaptation.
my God can you ever please a fan boy?
I love Watchmen with all my heart but I could give two s**ts if there is a squid
  • Patrick
You must have not understood Watchmen then. To say you don't care about Squid is perposterous. Squid IS Watchmen. It's the whole fucking point of the book.
  • IS it Watchmen?
    really?
or IS this an adaptation and you're getting your panties in a bunch?
  • Patrick
No, Squid is Watchmen. End of story. Go read it again.
  • Glad to know you are the end all be all of everything Watchmen. God forbid a differing opinion. End of story? lol I've been put in my place I suppose because my opinion isn't up to par with boy wonder patrick.
  • Patrick
That's right, no one knows more Watchmen than me. Not even Alan Moore.
  • he's behind the fence in that parking lot, jeeze watch JFK lol
  • i love this book, but i also believe that its possible to remove the squid as its only a device to an end. you could easily replace it with something else and still achieve the same effect...
im sick of the complaining from obsessive fans, first theres no point in this movie because its TOO much like the book, but then people continue to crucify it when it takes a departure
this movie has already done its job in getting people to pick up and actually read the book, and the inevitable release of this film is NOT going to erase this book from existence.
  • Patrick
Like I said though, it didn't have to be a Squid. It could've been something else as long as it was still "alien." But no, that would be too gay apparently...
  • adE
so uh u'd b happy with the little dudes from mars attacks showing up then?
  • Patrick
Haha, no. I'm just talking about something "alien" just teleporting and landing on Manahattan. That would be fine.
  • Joe
I'm a huge Watchmen fanboy. HUUUGE. Like, I bought a poster from Hot Topic of all places, and I effing HATE Hot Topic.

Hell, I'm gonna give the non-squid a chance.
  • "Woortch Men"
  • With every new trailer i keep edging forward to wanting to go see this movie. But with all this legal crap going on i dont want to put it on my most anticipated movies list for 09 or ill be waiting a long time
  • Who Watches
This movie looks fantastic, but did they really have to have the Comedian being the second shooter of JFK?
    Really?
I guess it was hinted at in the book... briefly.
Oh well, it still looks great.
  • This will be Epic..
  • jrice73
I like this trailer more than the last one released in November . Of the three theatrical trailers, I'd say this is my 2nd favorite next to the first one. Great scenes and great music by Phillip Glass...man, I hope they use his music throughout the entire film.

Now I wouldn't have minded if Snyder replaced the Squid with a UFO, or an alien artifact or something. As long as it gave the world the illusion that there is a threat outside of our world that imposes a great threat. But did Snyder do that? No. Instead he opted for an ending that doesn't make any sense. Veidt uses the machine that Dr. Manhattan and him are building for resources, but tricks Manhattan and actually uses it to mimic Jon's power and fires out lightining energy (Jonergy) in Manhattan and other various cities around the world, thus framing Manhattan. That doesn't work. For one, why would the world unite against a figure that could wipe them all out with a wave of his hand? Also, even though he left for Mars, would Russia really believe that he wasn't still working for the US government? It would just create a hate towards America instead of the unifying peace that the GN achieved.
  • Patrick
And plus why, after 25 years, after he's growing more and more out of touch with humanity would Manhattan all of a sudden snap and lightning everybody up. Because he exiled himself? He would've killed everyone right then and there if he wanted to. The genius with the Squid is that we were clueless about what it was or what it was capable overall. It just teleported and died. We had seen Dr. Manhattan for over 2 decades. We were clearly aware of his capabilities. Why unite against something whose powers you're certainly wise to?
  • Patrick
Also, without the Squid, what's the point of Bubastis? "I'll give you bodies beyond your wildest Imagining?" GWAR posters? Extraspacial studies? Hell, even Tales of the Black Freighter is meaningless now.

It's just stupid Snyder has done. He has mastered essentially everything else (well except for the Island story with Comedian which also kind of defeats the purpose of the murder mystery thus sort of throwing the film in a realm of pointlessness), but I think Snyder missed the biggest point of all in the alien threat. Instead he chose to frame one of the characters which wouldn't achieve what Veidt was aiming for.
  • Patrick
Oh and one other thing, there's a picture with dead bodies strewn across the ground in a tv behind Veidt in the MySpace Featurette, but clearly from this trailer they've still got the ultra lame "turning to ash" from the blast ending. They're not recapturing the intensity of the beginning of Chapter 12 with the millions of dead bodies in Manhattan. The sight of those first few pictures of Chap. 12 were something else. But alas, it is ruined thanks to Snyder's "visionary" directing. :(

At least they've got the two Bernies in there though. :) And aside from the Squidlessness, I'm still probably excited to see this more so than most people.
  • JaiNitai
How do you know all of this stuff about the ending, Patrick? Was this info posted somewhere? Couldn't it still be a squid at the end after that explosion? How do you absolutely know it's not? Just curious.
  • Patrick
I wish it was a Squid at the end of the explosion, but alas it is not.

Snyder confirming "Squid is out." http://watchmencomicmovie.com/111008-watchmen-mov...

Also, if you read Alex Tse and David Hayter's script, they have this lightning beam ending in there. Total gayness.
  • Patrick
This movie is going to so fucking epic. Well, except for the last 20 minutes when the movie ends up not making any sense thanks to Tse and Hayter's genius writing...

Even if you're in the "I'm ok with no Squid" group (which you shouldn't be), you can't disagree that the film 8 million times better with Squid.
  • T-dizzle
It's the war room from Dr stangelove, epic.
  • Every trailer increases my confidence in the film. I think Snyder has proved himself to competent, but this is Watchmen and he needs to step up his game tenfold to even come close to meeting the expectation that many have over this film.

I'm looking forward to the final US domestic trailer (if the March release isn't delayed) which'll show a good portion of what he's done and that'll probably confirm if he's done it justice. But yeah, it looks good so far and I have both fingers crossed.
  • Wow; this trailer is the bomb. It craps on all the previously released trailers.
  • adE
    Dear Patrick
the squid is the whole pint of the book? um wot? are u thick? why are people basing this as failure or success based on a squid!? this film does not need the squid to be entertaining. from what we've all seen. i think snyder has got "entertaining" in the bag! ********spoiler if u havnt read the GN as long as the ending stays faithfull to the book (ozzy tries to save the world in his unique, smartest man in the world style) i think it'll work without the squid! i mean fuck dude, really think about it, look at the quality of the footage we've seen so far, i just dont think the squid would work in film.
  • Patrick
I'm not particularly mad about the abscence of Squid, I'm mad about the abscene of an "alien" threat all together. *SPOILERS*

The whole point of Watchmen was Veidt's plan to create world peace through cooperation and unity against something out of this world (an alien). The only thing that could unite the world in defense of something much greater than itself.
  • mad_musashi
Would anyone here who speaks Japanese be willing to translate what the narrator is saying? And what exactly is it that Rorschach is saying when he's looking through Veidt's drawer? It's muddy to me for some reason ...
  • adE
oh patrick! what have u become.

haha chill dude there's no need to post me to death! i like the squid man, i think in the book it works (even more so on the second read) i just think people shouldnt judge what looks like a great film on an ending we havn't seen.

look i could write a huge reply as u yourself have done, explaining all my views and opinions but im just goin to leave u with this........

the alien ending didnt work out so well for indiana jones now did it...........
  • Patrick
Huh? That's because aliens didn't belong in Indiana Jones. Plus, that was just corny as hell.

It worked in the book. Why not have it in the film? I understand it's over the top and people might laugh, but you can adjust it to make sure it's still "badass" and "alien." I remember Snyder said in an interview something like, "Watchmen worked. Let's make the film just like that." And he did, for the most part. And I applaud him greatly. But he just fucked up the ending, and portrays Veidt as this super evil dude with a German accent with a plot that a makes a character who is supposed to be the deconstruction of the villainous arch-type, and is instead now cliche.
  • Depthcharge
    Patrick... dude

I gotta say: Whenever I hear someone like you talk I get new faith in humanity.

I get sick of squeeing half-fans, lol-ing retards and internet "intellectuals" peeing their pants over a film by 300 director Zack Snyder (who swore to remain loyal to the comic and then abandons it.) I agree with Moore: Watchmen is a comic, not a film. I wish the film industry would stop dicking around with old ideas and come up with some new ones. I think watchmen should have been left alone. The comic is genius.

Im undecided on the film as I have not seen it yet but I do fear it will merely be entertaining visually and weak with regard to theme as 300 was.
  • man this movie just looks amazing each time I see something new come out of it
