Yes! peter i'm glad you got the email! (i know it's dorky, but it's hella exciting to get referenced on /film!) some of my favorite parts about this interview, were when fincher and pitt were discussing life outside of filmmaking. they obviously lead a very different life than i do, but still seem to hold onto some very grounded/blue collar values.

i loved hearing them chat, but i kept on finding rose to be interrupting, loud, overbearing and very distracting. at times it was a jumbled mess of three people talking all at once. my girlfriend was watching at her place and had to change the channel because it got so bad - did you find rose to be poorly conducting this interview?

if i'm not mistaken, you've interviewed fincher before, right?
  • Thanks for the submission! Rose has his off days, and this is one of them.

I've never interviewed Fincher, he's very particular in who he allows to interview him. And for the most part, that means only top tier print press.
  • Seriously, he hasn't? This is SlashFilm, how could he not accept an offer?

I've noticed Charlie Rose often has his head up his ass when he talks to filmmakers and actors. He seems unprepared, confused and oblivious to common film knowledge. I had the good fortune to interview Fincher recently and while it was brief, I was impressed by his grace and intelligence. Who cares if PT Anderson wants him to die of testicular cancer, Fincher rocks!
  • where did you hear that PT Anderson wants Fincher to die of testicular cancer?
  • i believe Kevin Smith Said it an a Wizard World comic book event.
he said he had a conversation about how PT thought Fight Club was so bad that he hoped he got that cancer.

    pretty crazy if true.

@ Angry Boomstick: when I was researching my Fincher interview I found an old PT Anderson quote that basically went like this. PTA saw "Fight Club" and hated it so much he publicly said Fincher should die of testicular cancer. When word got back to Finch, tempers flared and PTA eventually apologized. As much as I love PTA I'd argue Fincher as the stronger filmmaker. What do you guys think? Fincher vs. PTA?

i could have sworn PT Anderson said that about Fincher because he thought Fight Club "made fun" of cancer. even though it was clearly just playing it up for black comedy. his anger is also a little misplaced considering Fincher didn't right those fight club scenes about cancer.
  • Great interview, although Charlie Rose can be annoying at times, I much prefer to watch this interview than the hundreds of 'puff pieces' about the film.

On a tangent, there was a story about this film on the Australian "A Current Affair" and all they talked about was Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchette, granted thats what most people want to hear about, but it was a totally worthless interview. Fincher himself was in the room and was not asked ONE question. It sucks that thats the sort of press the average person has on such an interesting film.
  • Wait, was Rose serious when he asked if Inglorious Basterds was Tarantino's first film? If so then alzheimers must be kickin' in because he interviewed him around when kill bill 2 came out.
  • Brad Pitt still has his Inglorious Bastards mustache
  • Interesting for sure. As mentioned I'm not sure Rose is all that good of an interviewer. And what's up with that intro theme???

Really like Pitt, I think he delievers solid performances and I believe he has a lot of interesting things to tell. Must admit though I have a hard time listening to him. Seems he struggles to get his words out and to me it tends to fall flat. Have nothing but huge respect for him though :)
