G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Character Posters

Paramount Pictures has released four new character posters for Stephen Sommer’s big screen live-action G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The posters were on display at a licensing fair in June, but Filmz.ru is the first site to have official scans. The posters feature (clockwise) Ray Park as Snake Eyes, Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, Channing Tatum as Duke, and Sienna Miller as Baroness. What is with Paramount’s marketing department and their obsession with desaturated character shots recently?

From the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite co-ed GI JOE team, based from it’s headquarters The Pit, deploys the latest in next-gen spy and military equipment to fight crooked arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious COBRA organization from plunging the world into chaos.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hits theaters on August 7th 2009.

  • its kinda sad how they put all that time and effort into it, and then design the poster, and then put the little names on there so geeks can freak out, but in the end everyone is getting pissed at it. I still think they should have just done stop motion animation with some gi joe toys, and then just added badass special effects and shit.

  • Every one of those posters showcase what NOT to do with Photoshop. The movie poster progressively gets dumber and worse every year. I think by 2020 we're just going to have hand-drawn posters by 8 year olds.

  • I think the posters are boring. They do absolutely nothing to garner any interest. August 7th can take it's time getting here. I am curious about the trailer though...will it offer hope or will we laugh?

    Cobra Commander is being played by somebody who looks like a kid, Joseph Gordon Levitt from 3rd rock from the sun. I know he wears a mask the whole time but even with the mask on I'm going to laugh and a waynes brother acting all gay in the movie fuck the producers of GI joe this movie is going to suck...................

  • Ahh, don't worry about it. It seems like everyone who posted forgot about it. It's like this movie just stopped production or something because back in April we kept getting photos of new stuff daily and then we went half a year with nothing. It's their own fault for making forgettable by not having a lasting impression and something to look forward to.

  • Is the nostalgia factor for GI Joes really enough to get people into theaters? For that matter, has anyone actually watched the 80s cartoon lately? It wasn't that good.

    For that matter, the original Transformers cartoon was also pretty lame when you watch it today (every episode has basically the same plot line, Autobots try and keep the Deceptacons from making Energon cubes). I wasn't excited for the Transformers movie either, but it turned out okay. (Not great, just okay.)

    Who knows, maybe this will be good. But everything I've heard about it makes it sound lamer by the minute.

  • These posters look like an ineffective cross between the Sin City posters and the Star Trek Posters. Regardless, I want to see this movie. G.I. Joes are awesome.
