These two fan-created “For Your Consideration” advertisements have been making their way around the Internet in support for Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight.

    Those look freaking legit!
  • TWO THINGS!!!

    1) The online campaign is not to secure as Oscar nom/win for Heath Ledger. This campaign is to secure nominations for THE DARK KNIGHT in ALL CATEGORIES. Everybody knows that Ledger's performance is the stuff Hollywood legends are made of. He's a lock for the nod, nearly a lock for the win. TDK, though, is on the edge of breaking new ground for 'serious' films that are adapted from media that not everybody takes seriously. Not just 'comic book movies.' No, TDK getting a Best Picture nod won't help the next Fantastic 4 gain any Oscar credit, but it will help the next adaptation of a comic, sci-fi/fantasy novel, etc. that strives to create a 'top shelf' type of film. TDK really is genre defining, and the Oscars can help legitimize that (and themselves for that matter).
  • for ALL categories? I dont think so.
  • Yeah. I love TDK as much as anyone else but it's not Best Picture worthy compared to other stuff this year. It won't get best actor, or actress (Maggie? Come on!)It MIGHT get NOMINATED for best writing, effects, and supporting actor. That's it
  • Um, Dark Knight IS the Best Picture of the year. Can you really name 5 movies that are better? I can name 5 that are typical Oscar porn, but I can only think of maybe 1 or 2 others that are in the same league (In Bruges, The Wrestler). TDK beats the living batshit out of The Curious Case of Jack Gump and Slumdog "Poop Joke" Millionaire!
  • Zinc
Slumdog Millionaire, Milk, The Wrester, and Benjamin Button are all pretty on par with TDK, though I'd edge out Slumdog to be better than the rest.
  • hey
    in bruges was crap
  • Midgets
You're an indiot. IB rules your ass.
  • Have you seen all those movie to justify your comment? I like The Dark Knight just as much as the other guy but I haven't had the chance to watch The Wrestler yet or Ben Button. I hear Slumdog's great.
  • Best Documentary for Reals.

  • that Oscar looks like a dildo.... sorry, man, but I had to say it
  • A man shaped dildo.
  • "all it needs is a little push"

    yeah, buddy, a bit harder.
  • I think this is the first time I've ever heard of a grassroots Oscar campaign.
  • There was a Youtube video I think 2 years ago that tried to get Children of Men noticed for the Oscars. It obviously failed, unfortunately.
  • filmkid
seen this already joshmc did them he did all them great fan-made posters
  • The scars one is smart ... They look legit and before even reading the headline I was like wow Warners is really pushing it, but then I read the headline and the post... Boo Warners Yeh this guy ... Way to be .
  • The one on the left is very cool...
  • I agree, the originality factor really helps it out and sets it apart.
  • These look really good.
  • Clever and Kudos to the creator.
  • A man shaped didlo.
  • Always nice to have some viral support. keep it coming.
  • Both are fantastic! It is great to see how the film is inspiring people creatively. This years Awards are going to be intense.
  • These are awesome, TDK seems to have brought out a lot of creativity among its fans, with these posters and all of the fake ones for the next movie. Its cool.
  • The 'scars' one is hella clever. Seems like just one of those moments where everything just falls into place, from concept to copy to creation. Love it.
  • I agree, the scars poster is king! Like it was meant to be.
  • as much as i loved the dark knight. and heath ledger.........i can't support this.
  • I'm sure your reason for not supporting this is good but I would like to know what that reason is. Just curious i guess.
  • well, i thought that the dark knight, while great in its own right as a piece of entertainment, i just have to believe there were better, more important performances that came out this year. the fact is that while heath ledger was great as the joker, i simply don't feel that it warrants the accolades it's getting.
  • Oh ok, i get you. It must have been hard for you to watch the movie and then hear about it all the time from everyone everywhere you went about how great his performance really was. I know it sounds sarcastic but it really isn't. I always like to hear from other people what they thought of things especially The Dark Knight. I'll always want to know why someone didn't like a movie that was adored by the majority of the world.
  • oh no, that's not it at all. it was a good movie and i enjoyed it, for sure. i just honestly feel that there were probably more deserving, important performances out there. the whole thing, to me, simply reeks of comic book fanboyism. to me, the dark knight, while a great comic book movie, is just that - a comic book movie. and while heath ledger's joker was a great interpretation of the character, to legitimately award such a hammy performance is just insulting.
  • "just that - a comic book movie."

Statements like that are the reason why TDK really does need to get these accolades. There's no such thing as "just a comic book movie." TDK is a great movie, regardless of where it got its source material.

Is MILK just a biopic? What about FROST/NIXON? Just a historical drama? I'm guessing WALL-E is just a Short Circuit ripoff?

And to call Heath Ledger's performance 'hammy' and 'insulting' is... insulting. It's insulting to him, Nolan, and the audience to say that just because he's playing a comic book villain he can't treat the character seriously.

I suppose you thought everything about LOTR was hammy and insulingly undeserving of awards, too. I mean, it was just a novel movie.
  • that's a fair statement. i willfully admit that it's a rather snob statement to make. perhaps i should have phrased it another way: the dark knight is just an action movie. regardless of all the work that went into it on a technical level, it's a movie that i simply can't take seriously because it does not expect to be taken seriously. SERIOUSLY.

i mean, if we're going to hand out awards to every action blockbuster that comes along, i would like to propose that we give one to alan rickman for his portrayal of hans gruber in die hard which was simply SUBLIME.
  • Oh, well who do you think should be nominated for their performances?
  • that's a really good question. i'm going to have to give it some careful deliberation.
  • Wall-E for best Picture!
  • first one is pretty legit
  • both are pretty good, but i definitely like the 'scars' poster is brilliant! whoever did these deserves credit, and warner defenitely should put them up.
  • These are absolutely fantastic.
  • Rémi
    Very good!!!
