Japanese Dragonball Movie Trailer Looks Ridiculous

The Japanese movie trailer for Fox’s big screen live-action adaptation of Dragonball has hit the interwebs. Remember how cool that new Terminator Salvation trailer was? Well this is quite the opposite. Goofy looking characters, cliched action sequences and laughable dialogue. But honestly, what did you expect? Leave your most amusing thoughts in the comments below!

Cast: Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Eriko Tamura, Joon Park, and Chow Yun-Fat

Based on the popular Japanese manga created by Akira Toriyama, whose work spawned best selling graphic novels, video games and a phenomenally successful television series, DRAGONBALL centers on the heroic Goku (Chatwin), a powerful warrior who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the Universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film takes its name.

Dragonball hits theaters in the states on April 8th 2009.

  • This movie is probably one of the best "One-view-only" film. Seriously.

    Wanted was a guilty pleasure to watch with all it's badass sequences and choppy story.

    Dragonball Evolution is probably going to be the same- In my opinion, it looks better than Wanted and much better than Street Fighter Movie '94

    i won't really judge from the trailer. MK movies were bad but i still enjoyed them. they were still fun. i think this will be the same.
  • holy shit... This just need do go live direct in DVD... Goku doesn't look like goku, and bullma loses her boobs. Nothing funny in this version. Only explosions and 3D effects trying to erase the poor version of Dragon ball they made.

  • You're confusing Dragonball Z with Dragonball. Z was your typical shounen battle manga aimed at 6-14 year-olds. Dragonball on the other hand was a comedy manga with a little bit of fighting. They really could've made a great film, had they based it off Dragonball. Serves them right though for kicking Toriyama off set for wanting ' too much creative control '. It's his series for christsake!

    I like James Marsters and all, but it looks like they just dug up his old Buffy costume and change the make-up a bit.

    if they were aiming to use the show as source material it looks pretty spot on...the show had "goofy" moments and horrible "dialog"...it looks like a Dragonball movie to me, the question is do we really need or want one?

    Was it to much for you Peter to present this trailer objectively ? Instead you choose to take the low road and degrade the trailer due to your own personal dislikes. Next time just present the trailer without any bias instead of classifying it as "ridiculous".
