Watchmen Comic Con Footage Now on iTunes

Warner Bros has finally the Watchmen footage that was previewed at Comic Con in July. Actually, it appears to be a slightly modified version of the original footage, but who cares about technicalities. To watch the clip, click on the following link to be transfered to the Apple iTunes download page (Some International readers will have t wait until someone uploads the footage to YouTube or Vimeo). Again, a lot of really cool slow motion shots cut together. Tell us what you think in the comments below.

  • Gorgeous footage. I must see this movie NOW!

Well he shot a pregnant women he knocked up, so that was a hug compared to some of this behavior.

    *END SPOILERS*
  • I'm a big fan of helping yourself before you attempt to get help from others. A quick wikipedia search of the Watchmen would have confirmed that these characters are indeed homages to the Charelston (now DC owned) characters of The Question; The Blue Beetle; Peacemaker; Captain Atom; Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt; and Black Canary/Phantom Lady.

And also, on an added layer to the onion. I do believe Snyder is also "spoofing" (even though I hate using that term with the Watchmen), other comic book movies. Like the nipples on Ozzy's breastplate.

But hey whatever. Grain of salt and all that.

Thank you, Matthew. In fact, I do read comic books. Just not this one. All I wanted was a quick answer as to the significance of what appeared to be derivative looks.
  • you don't read comic books then you don't get it. It's not worth trying to explain the significance of this title. check this review out, it might explain why people regard it as the greatest graphic novel ever.

Yeah well talking to people sometimes isn't very reliable either. Open your mind when you read Watchmen. Otherwise, go back to living under a rock.
  • Oi Vey
The Comedian punching women? Nic Cage must be furiously jealous!
  • I'm not going to read the graphic novel before I downloa...err, go to the cinema to see this. Hopefully, not reading the comic shouldn't hinder the story in viewing the film. Especially after seeing how thorough they are being in those making-of clips.
  • wow, I can't wait for Wondercon (inSF) to see some more! Hopefully Zach and the crew will be there.
  • I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt on this, and put it down to the obfuscating qualities that mere text can have on intended meaning. But you just came off as sounding like a self-important clique tosser. Not that I'm saying you are, mind. Just something to look out for in future, eh?
  • Thanks!

I am a fan of talking to people sometimes. Only sometimes, mind you. As for Wikipedia, I generally avoid it. It's not very reliable.

Hey, Speed Racer IS one of the year's best!
  • Anyone else surprised by seeing Dollar Bill?
  • You heard the man. Can any help out us internationaleers? Best we've got at the moment is http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=S-tn1gPK8pE

david is spot-on actually. The characters are all commentaries on other popular superheores. Familiarity with the characters is crucial to the appeal of the story.

Excuse me? I don't care what Time said about the movie. I was asking whether there was some reason for the characters looking so much like other superheroes. It simply doesn't look original. As for the story, I plan on seeing the film, so I guess I'll find out. (By the way, Time ranked Speed Racer as one of the ten best films of the year. But you knew that.)
  • david1225
I simply made a visual observation. One character looks like a rip-off of Batman, for example. That isn't dumping on a movie.
  • says the commenter who jumps into a thread to dump on the movie.
  • please refrain from commenting then. or just read the book already.

    what Time said about Watchmen;

"A work of ruthless psychological realism, it’s a landmark in the graphic novel medium. It would be a masterpiece in any."

Ahhh. So people familiar with the story are assholes. Got it.

    DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
  • David1225
I've never read Watchmen, so I'm reserving judgment. However, these characters look like cheap knockoffs of other superheroes. Perhaps there's a point to that?
  • Does anyone have a link to watch this video outside of iTunes?

    I'd really appreciate it.

Total fan-boner alert. Thank you Peter!!

Yeah, glad I got to see this. Really solidifies my belief that this will stay close to what Alan Moore created. This movie looks great.

Also, you didn't have to put a spoiler up there to Say, "Hey, where's the Oz love in this footage?" I do agree that they aren't showing much of him but the novel didn't have a terribly great helping of him either so.
  • Love it. It's a really good marketing tool.
  • Sweet.
  • SPOILERS ( IF YOU HAVE YET TO READ THE BOOK)(REALLY THOU?)

Why is it that they barely show ozymandias in the trailers, there has been him hitting the guy with the standtion in the lobby(In the slow / fast mo shot) of his building. Then him walking down the stairs in the full get up in the teaser but very breif, and him looking shocked in this footage? they really aren't hiding the fact that he's the villain cause they are really setting him apart from the full group in the trailers and in the posters? or is it just me?

Sorry for the spoiler if you haven't read the book.
  • That footage was incredible. Really helped set a better tone for the movie than that last trailer did.
  • You might want to put the spoiler warning ABOVE your post.

I am extremely excited that they released this footage because this was the only cut trailer that made watchmen look more like a tragedy/thriller than an action pulse flick.

the feel of this footage has always been what originally sold me on this film.
    glad it's finally out.
