Remember that item we ran last week — David Fincher to direct Keanu Reeves in a movie about a Chef? We didn’t know much about the project back then, but an anonymous scooper has filled me in.

The Untitled Chef Project is a screenplay by Steven Knight, the screenwriter behind Dirty Pretty Things, Amazing Grace, Eastern Promises, and Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Dennis Lehane adaptation Shutter Island. Apparently the screenplay was featured on the 2007 Black List, a list of screenplays compiled by over 150 executives and assistants. The project is now set up at Paramount. Fincher and the studio recently cleared the air, so this pairing makes sense. So what is the movie about?

“A Michelin-level chef tries to make a comeback from major personal issues. He gathers his old friends together as his ‘dream team’ and ends up falling in love with the newest member of the group.”

I have yet to read the screenplay, but the first page has a unshaven Chef named Adam shouting obscenities in French (subtitled). It seems pretty obvious that Keanu will be playing Adam.

Yeah, what French obscenities? Keanu can barely speak proper English, you think he's gonna pull off French trash talk? As for the love story, two words: Sweet November
  • Anrkist
    "Yeah? Well I'm taller."

Did anyone ever get that? I'm still puzzled.
  • Stryker
So...who's the killer? ...What's the birth defect?...Where's the hook that would make Fincher even interested in this?
  • Molly
I loved Sweet November. Hehe and the I'm taller comment, it's what you say (if it's true) when you don't know what else to say. LOL
  • Marco
"Well I'm taller" is a classic Keanu-ism. Other Keanu-isms include "Catch ya later evil dudes," "Bogus!" "I am an FBI AGENT" and the immortal "Whoa!"
  • Faya
Damn you guys are dummies. Marco, five words for you - A Walk In The Clouds. Dead sexy. "Well I'm taller." Jesus he had just knocked Hopper's head off. Duuuh. He does excellent French btw.
  • This worked as a comedy on TV, although only for a half season. Kitchen Confidential was hilarious.
  • Sam
Keanu speaks French very well, I saw a recent interview of him in Paris and he didn't need translation. He is always there BTW. Anyone underestimating that guy is a dummie. Take a look at his career, he has great choices for his projects. Chef was in the black list and he acquired another one from the 2007's black list called Passengers. I am expecting good projects from him in the near future.

Keanu's mom is French-He knows french. He speaks french. And as for the haters -He's made 40+ movies. He gets ripped about what 3 or 4 for bad acting??? Wow!!! He is a great actor. all his roles are deep and evolving characters. wonderful man.
  • Awesome! The Matrix in French!
  • This seems to be like Ratatouille without the rats. Why would Fincher do a love story.
  • This seems to be like Ratatouille without the rats. Why would Fincher do a love story?
  • i guess the spy i had in there was lying to me.. this doesnt look like it will be nearly as interesting as the plot i was given, which i posted on the other article.
  • Keanu gets a lot of flack but I like him and I certainly like David Fincher.

    In for one.
  • Sarah
Bad guy loses his head- literally- i.e. Keanu is "taller" and still with head.
  • Sarah
his mom is not French, she is English.
Given your fangirl drooling you outta be better informed than that.
  • Who?
Sounds like a heaping pile of shit
  • Marco
All jokes aside Keanu has gotten better the last few years. But some people will never forget his HORRENDOUS early years. Dangerous Liasons? Much Ado About Nothing? Bram Stoker's Dracula? No matter what you think of those films as a whole, Keanu takes a huge dump in every single one. All he could do until recently was perfect the "surfer dude" in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Point Break. At least he's trying now and it's starting to pay off.
  • I was going to suggest perhaps this is a bid to cash in on the Hell's Kitchen sort of cheffing competitions going around at the moment, but then I figure that ship has sailed (TV ratings already dropping...) Plus, with Fincher attached, I have to think this story contains a little more substance that what appears on the surface.
  • Whoa
  • Fab
    Come on, what obscenities?
  • Keanu... err... Love Story Err...
  • Is this script really based on the Anthony Bourdain book? I liked Kitchen Confidential a lot but I don;t think it would work as a movie. Moreover I can't see Keanu as a volatile chef. Has he ever been volatile in anything? In any event, this is pretty interesting news. I am constantly amazed at how much useful information one can find with just a little digging. Most traditional film schools tend to skip important topics in favor of technique and things like that. One program I found online offers one on one mentoring to assure that you have all the tools to feel comfortable and ready the first day you step onto a set. One such program is Film Connection. <a href="http://www.film-connection.com " target="_blank">http://www.film-connection.com The best part is that their program is available anywhere in the US and Canada. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lkkzT9sr8w
