/Film Is Thankful For…

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I am Thankful for a lot of things this year.

I am thankful for meeting up with David Chen, Devindra Hardawar and Adam Quigley, they produce one of the best movie podcasts on the internet week after week. I wish I could take some credit, but I’ll publicly admit that I have absolutely nothing to do with the podcast other than saying “these guys are good, I wonder if they would do their thing on /Film” They deserve all the the credit.

I am thankful to Hunter Stephenson, who has provided a voice on the site that has never been heard before in the movie news realm.

YOU! - I am thankful for all of the millions of readers who have found us this year. We showed a great rate of growth this year, and it’s all your fault. Thank you!

I am thankful for Alex Billington of FirstShowing.net and Neil Miller of Film School Rejects. The news business is a very competitive place, but I really do consider these two guys as two of my best friends. These guys have challenged the way I think, and have greatly influenced what I and this website have grown to become over the last two years.

I want to thank Harry, Eric, Drew and the other guys at Ain’t It Cool News and JoBlo for paving the movie news landscape. I know I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t been a reader of either of those sites long before /Film ever became a thought in the back of my head.

I am thankful from some of the great people I have met over the past year -

Danny Trachtenberg and the rest of the great guys at the Totally Rad Show - I’ve been listening to Dan since geekdrome. I do a lot of traveling, and I always catch up with TRS on my flights. I, like probably all the other listeners of the show, feel like I know Dan, Jeff and Alex personally. So to meet them for the first time felt like being reunited with old friends. Being able to geek out with them at E3 and Comic Con was extremely cool. And Dan, one of these days we’re actually gonna hang out when I come to town, I swear!

I’m not going to make this about name dropping, so I’m only going to drop two.

Kevin Smith - Before /Film, I tried briefly to become a filmmaker and Smith was my inspiration. To say I’m a fan is an understatement (I own a foot tall Silent Bob statue). I invited him to see The Dark Knight with me, and he invited me over his house. I’m glad to say I somewhat know the guy.

Darren Aronofsky - The fact that one of my top three favorite filmmakers reads /Film is just freaking mind blowing.

Okay, done.

The Alamo Drafthouse - I was lucky enough to discover this place this year during SXSW, and be invited back for Fantastic Fest. The Alamo is without a doubt the best movie theater in the country. Tim and the guys that run the ship are unmatched.

The great guys at Latino Review who are as Independent as you can get. They have taught me a lot about how the movie industry works.

Frosty from Collider, the only other Bostonian that I’ve been able to connect with in the movie news world.

Dave and Eve from the Geeks of Doom - Two of the nicest people I have met so far. It was fun hanging out at Comic Con, and I hope to hang out with both of them next time I come to New York.

Vic from ScreenRant - As much as I disagree with him on politics, this is a great guy and I’m glad to know him.

I want to thank Andrew, Orna and Tamar, the three best studio publicists in the world. And Betsy, the coolest local publicist that has ever existed.

If I’ve forgotten anyone, I’m sorry. I should also say that I tried to keep this about movies and the movie world - I didn’t get into family in friends in an effort not to bore the people reading at home.

Slashfilm is so awesome. I listen to 2 hours+ of podcasts from you guys everyweek and check your site about 300 times a week.
  • Thanks Peter. You run the best movie news site on the web.
  • Thank you for the mention - I am honored to call you one of my friends as well!
  • "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

Thanks for making us part of your site, Peter. It's been an honor and a pleasure to be able to interact with your audience, with other sites, and with filmmakers and actors from around the world. Obviously, in the past 6 months, the /Filmcast has grown to the extent where it threatens to consume my life completely. If and when this happens, I'll know who's responsible (you).

Seriously though, it's been a blast, and I hope you have found that our partnership has been that of two groups synergistically coming together to make each other better in the process. I hope you have a happy thanksgiving!
  • I Second that!

For He's a Jolly Good Fellow!
  • Esahn Dulin
Thanks to /Film and all who are involved in it! Great job, guys!

    I'm thankfull for Tim Burton
  • Aw man, I feel bad now for not making an "I'm thankful for Peter and Alex" post on my site. Oh well, thanks Pete. I too am honored to count you among my best friends. As for Alex... well, he knows that he completes me. :P
  • Also, I too am thankful for /Film. Where else would I get all my good ideas for articles?
  • Pete, you are the man. One of the nicest guys I know in the movie blogosphere. :-)

    Vic
  • Peter,

    You forgot me >:(
  • Also, where the fuck has Hunter been? >:(
  • Zinc
Oh man, I'm just thankful that /film exists. I love you guys.
  • You must have missed the third line when I said I was thankful for "You" :P
  • Although I live in Australia, where Thanksgiving doesn't exist, I too would like to say thanks for all the hard work the /film crew put into the site. I visit it roughly two million times a day and I'm constantly listening to the podcast on my way to work, or at the gym or wherever (this also results in me looking like a weirdo when I start laughing out loud at something).
    Keep up the awesome work!
  • Thanks for everything you guys do. I appreciate all the hard work of Peter, Dave, Devindra, Adam, Hunter, and Steve. And I'm thankful for all the guests who join in on the podcast to spice things up even more! Hope everyone is having a great day. :D
  • I am thankful for Peter, Neil, and Hunter.. without those mates who'd read the ranting of a madman on twitter?
  • I'm not much of a holiday guy, and being sentimental isn't exactly my forté, but thank you for the kind words Peter. In all honesty, everything that's come out of working for /Film (between doing the podcast, and meeting you and David at Comic-Con, and talking to Kevin Smith, among others)... well, it's really amounted to some of the best experiences of my life. I hope it continues for years to come.

    Thanks for everything. :)
  • Thanks for having /Film exist! Can't say I read any film site with regular certainty prior to your site coming into my life.
  • We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia, but I'll gladly take this opportunity to sincerely thank you, Peter, for such a wonderful, insightful and always entertaining blog. /F truly is King.
  • Seth
And I'm thankful for you, Peter.
  • I'm thankful for being able to see the latest news about upcoming movies, and being able to talk to true movie lovers such as myself, hell I just respect this site with all info they can get for us.
  • Peter, i'll agree with you. It's so wierd that great filmmakers like Smith and Aronofsky check this site too.
  • its not weird, its awesome
  • i want to take this time to give thanks for slashfilm. i found slashfilm during my extensive research of the cloverfield viral campaign, and i have been absolutely hooked ever since. after cloverfield came out, i started branching to other parts of the site, and the information i get everyday makes me the local movie news guy among my friends, family and coworkers. i dont know how i ever learned about new movies before slashfilm. i hope you keep it coming for years to come. thanks for all that you do.
  • Wow, what an unexpected love fest! I'm thankful to you Peter for your generosity and help with the podcast, my co-hosts on the /Filmcast Adam and Dave, and I'm especially thankful to all of our fans as well :)

It was a thrilling (and terrifying) experience building up a podcast on such a popular site, and I'm glad we weren't eaten alive by /Film's incredible fanbase. Thanks for making all the blood and sweat worth it folks :)
  • Danno
I discovered this site by accident. I bookmarked it. Hmm, not enough. I got the RSS feed. Better.

    CHECK- You can't beat experience.

    gobble gobble.
  • I think I can speak for the whole /film fanbase in saying, thank you Peter.
  • Marco
I agree with what a lot of people are saying, I am thankful for slashfilm. Knowing Peter personally I can say he is an honest and intelligent friend. Very few people love what they do and it's good to know he runs this site with a true passion for film and not a second agenda. Here's to you my friend and may you keep kicking ass in years to come. (end of mushy rant) :o)

P.S. You're right Peter, Betsy rocks.
  • thank you peter!!!!
Enjoy creating new styles and upload it to www.uploaded.tv
  • You forgot to say that you're thankful for Cam Gigandet. Peter clearly left him out of his list by accident. Well now I mentioned him, so all is well. I think I speak for everyone at /Film when I say: Viva la Cam Gigandet!
  • I am Also Thankful for the Podcast (along with the Racism ;) ..) Espically what you've been watchin section... And for this site.. There are few sites i get check Daily and this is one and the first one every morning..

    group hug :-)

Peter, that was so sweet of you to include me and Dave in your Thankful list. Had Geeks of Doom done a list like this, you would definitely be at the top of it. You are one of the nicest and coolest, fun people I know. Your affable nature and generosity have restored my faith in humanity! Serious, as you mentioned, the hurly burly world of online film news can be a real competitive place, but people like you (and Alex and Neil) are paving the way to it being more of a brother[/sister?]hood, and I'm blessed to be a part of it. Anything you need, Dave and I will be there for ya. /lovefest
  • I am a little late, but for the record I truly appreciate the work you guys do. You have helped my work ethic decline, by forcing me to check the site throughout the day. And lets not get into the the noise canceling headphones and filmcasts.....

I hope to see the site prosper, and the filmcasts continue.
  • Peter, I'm thankful you run such a fantastic site! I spent more time here through out the day when I'm at work than I should. LoL I hope you're having a fantastic holiday weekend. I'm also thankful for the /flimcast you guys are awesome I love listening to the episodes while I work.
  • Betsya
Thank you Peter! You are by far one of the coolest journalists that I work with. One of these days I'll get you to read TWILIGHT and see SHAKES THE CLOWN :)
