William Shatner Comments on The New Enterprise

In today’s VOTD, we featured a funny video of classic-era Captain Kirk’s response to the new Star Trek movie trailer. But what about the real William Shatner? What does he think? He posted a new video on YouTube praising director JJ Abrams‘ new design of the USS Enterprise. Watch that video after the jump.

You this guy is 77 years old? I remember my grandpa at 77. Not even half as spry. I hope I age so well.
  • Now that he's said it, the word "Shipshape" is now an official word to Hardcore Trekkies.
  • Who is William Shatner?
  • Ddd
shat, YOU DA MAN. i hope to see him in a sequel. and yeah he looks freaking awesome for 77

I wasn't expecting him to be so positive about it after what happened between him and JJ and him not getting a part in the film. pretty cool.
  • He is doing everything he can to be a part of this.
  • I wonder if he's seen the inside though.

More importantly, who is Willian Shatner?
  • So True. So True.

MosesMonster, I see him more of a P.C person -he's not going to set foot in that mac store. He's to busy defraggin'.

Shat's had a lot of work done.
  • I thought he would complain, surprised he liked it. It looks great but can't say the same about the trailer...

I'm listening to "Captain of the Starship" right now - the Shatmeister's live performances from 1978. What a joy it is.
  • Thank gawd. This will stop the superfans from crying about every little detail of....

Who am I kidding? The superfans are still gonna cry rivers.

Sounds good. William Shatner has always done his best to support Star Trek. But I gotta tell ya, this movie looks like another rehash from what i saw in the trailer. And wtf...? Another time travel plot? Come on now! How many times has that been done? Don't get me wrong; I always enjoyed "Star Trek" in it;'s various incarnations, and if this movie is good, I am going to be the first to support & endorse it. But so far, it looks like no new ground is really broken here 'except making Star Trek more "hip" or whatever it's called these days. It's more like "Fast & the Furious" in Space (not that there's anything wrong w/ that). Personally, I wish they let "Star Trek" lay to rest and rather see a new franchise emerge, like Epic Comics "Alien Legion" turned into a movie.

Old franchises have the advantage of being able to explore new ideas as soon as they pop into the writer's head. New franchises have to build up first before they get to the juicy stuff. I aint going to wait for new franchises to mature before I get some satisfaction. Startrek is complicated, it's difficult, it's argument after argument. It's like marriage bub. In the end you remember how really great it is and that you're complaining because you've got history and that's a good thing. snikt.
