Anyone notice that the new trailer, as opposed to the bootlegs, showed Kirk with the yellow shirt on with Captains bars? That's when he says "Buckle up!" Neat stuff.

The Trailer is great. I've never really been a Star Trek guy. By the way, did anyone see Big Bang Theory last night. They were talking about the difference of #5 and #1. It was great.

The only Trek films I've ever liked were II and *gulp* Generations. But I will definetely be seeing this.

The first few times I watched this trailer, I was blown away.

But then, I started to get a little worried. They are relying heavily it seems on a few scenes. It made me start to wonder if this trailer is basically "giving us all she's got."

Alright I'll admit the pictures make me feel a little excited though I'm still reserved about the movie. I'm working on pushing aside the Trek I grew up with and see this as something new. I still don't like the Enterprise design and its stupid bridge.

Ruining something else? Like how he pulled the reins back on the M:I franchise and made a watchable movie? Or like how he took over the writing duties on episode 4 of Fringe, cleaning up all of Kurtzman and Orci's mistakes?

Enough with "canon," time for a new 21st century take. I'm a Trekkie (!) who's favorites are TOS and DS9 and you don't hear me crying. After the disaster that was "Enterprise" you'd think more people would be excited about Abrams' take. I personally can't wait! He's just the guy to shake up the franchise if you ask me.

this is just the same thing as how they've redefined Batman in all the various movies, tv shows, and cartoons. Currently, on TOON, they're showing a version more of the 50's style of art work. They're always changing the damn cars.
(Hey, how come Batman doesn't have a pickup truck?? Doesn't he need to haul stuff? Like all the bad guys he captures to drop off at the police precinct?)

Altho, I have to admit that it's nice to keep some kind of common thread thru everything. And Star Trek is one of the most possessive of opnions by its fans about what should be done and shouldn't be done. The "Enterprise" series doesn't bother me, because I consider it an alternate universe.
But with all the new computer graphics nowadays, it's hard to keep technology equal to what the 1960's showed on TOS. Especially when much real technology of today has even surpassed some of the Next Gen show!! They've got to show some fancy technology or else the movie would be boring.

If you pause the video you will see that he is wearing Lieutenant Commander stripes on his sleeve. Perhaps the older guy in yellow seen earlier is the Captain. Also, there is no way to tell that they are actually on Enterprise. Maybe they are on the Kelvin. Funny how Kirk is doin a green chick. He always had a thing for them.

Yeah, No. Pine has Three stripes on his sleeve. Captain. Sorta end of story. I don't believe there's a brail version of the trailer. They are captains stripes. Three of them.

Captains have 4 stripes. 3 full stripes are Commanders, 2 full stripes with a thinner stripe between them are Lt. Commanders. You can see Bones has 1 full stripe and 1 thinner stripe. He is a Lt. JG (Junior Grade). Zulu has 1 stripe so he is an ensign. Wikipedia is a great thing, but I don't think it comes in braille.

It could be that they are doing a variation on the original series stripes. You know, because it's Star Trek...not A Few Good Men. You should check it out...on Wikipedia.

although the rank insignia tony describes is correct in general, for the star trek universe, an ensign has no stripes, instead of one thick stripe. thus, starting from there and working our way up, a captain has two thick and one thin. there is of course no way to distinguish enlisted and ensign then... as indicated by the redshirt security detail members in tos landing parties.

My whole life is a 'redshirt detail.'
