30 Minutes with Mickey Rourke

If you have 30 minutes to spare, check out David Poland’s wonderful in-depth interview with Mickey Rourke, Oscar hopeful and star of Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler.

  • Mr Horse
I think the Wrestler will turn out to be an excellent movie, but Jesus Christ am I sick of listening to these over pampered Hollywood actors and actresses bitch and moan about how "tough" or "hard" a shoot was. You are living the dream, you are extremely wealthy and you are experiencing a life the rest of us can only dream about. Suck it up and stop pretending that this is "hard" work, you are insulting the rest of us who know what hard work really is.
  • That was a fantastic interview.

    @Mr Horse

um 12+ hour workdays are hardwork, doing the same take 5 to 10 times is hard work, getting yourself in the zone as an actor and fucking with your mind to get into the character is hardwork, especially if its an emotionally draining role.

Im sorry I just can't stand it when someone who obviously does not work in the movie industry complains about actors having it easy, the reason they seem to have it easy is because the have worked hard, especially a guy like Mickey Rourke. A role like in the wrestler has to be emotionally draining.

Making movies is not easy work, the payoff is huge for the ones that work the hardest.

    Hey Darren ^

The movie is fantastic (I saw it in Toronto) and I hope you get just as much recognition for it as Mickey.

Oh and yes, that was a a great interview.

Mr. Horse your a true JACK ASS, your obviously oblivious to "work" goes into acting, so I'm going to give you a piece of advice. When giving your comment/opinion your should know what your talking about and at least back it up with a fact instead of your meaningless observation.

D.A. thank you for supporting your opinion, I respect it. Your what you said sums my thoughts up as well:

"Making movies is not easy work, the payoff is huge for the ones that work the hardest."

My Example: Do you really think it was easy for Heath Ledger to create the Joker? Could just anyone have done what he did the way he did it? NO!
Someone else would have done something else and prepared differently for it. Look up the Meisner Technique or Method Acting. All I'm saying is do your research.

Oh by the way, it was an awesome interview and I'm counting the days for its release!

Mr Horse doesn't know what the fuck.

mr. horse - do you know the average annual salary of a someone who's in the screen actors guild? look it up.

it's not easy to become a professional actor. and even tougher to stay there.

don't speak/write of things you know nothing about.
  • You are right I have no idea how much effort goes into creating a role, nor do I understand the emotional toll it can take on an actor or actress. But is it such a "hardship" if they are doing something they really love? Is it so "tough" to do something they have dreamt about for most of their lives?
Nobody is forcing these people to do these things, they do it because they love their craft and they work hard at something they have a passion for.

I stand by my point, I have grown weary of listening to interviews and press junkets where actors and actresses make a special point of explaining just how "hard" a shoot was or how they "put their bodies on the line" during the filming. Using words like "punishing" and "gruelling" to describe their experiences.

It's hard for me to accept when people I know and love struggle everyday to keep their jobs and provide for their families, whose everyday experiences are truly punishing and gruelling. If that makes me a " true JACKASS" then so be it, but I'm not the only who feels this way.

This is a great interview. I could listen to Mickey talk for 30 hours. He's a great actor and I'm glad to see him get the recognition he deserves. Aronofsky is a brilliant director and I can't wait to see The Wrestler.
