As you know, the second trailer for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and the first trailer for JJ Abrams’ Star Trek will be attached to Quantum of Solace, which hits theaters this Friday. The only way to see the Star Trek movie trailer this weekend (aside from the inevitable blurry shaky youtube bootlegs) will be in the theater (the trailer will be posted online on Monday morning).

Yahoo has announced that the Watchmen trailer will premiere online on Thursday night at 5:00pm pacific time. So if you want to see the new Watchmen trailer and don’t want to pay for Bond, check back online this Thursday night. You’ll even get to see it before the midnight screenings on the east coast.

  • Thankyoufor
    YESSSSSSS
cause i didnt really want to see QoS after the reviews
  • its about time we got another watchmen trailer.
  • Vinny
FUck it, i work until 11:30 at my theatre then I'm off to see the midnight showing of quantum. I don't care how early it is i can't watch it
  • sweeeeet!!!!
first round at the gunga diner is on me.
  • matthew
maybe...just maybe....the new watchmen trailer will assuage the doubts i have. the new trailer has to impress the hell out of me in order to make up for the fact that there will be no squid-creature in the movie. that to me is a gigantic letdown and no matter how much sense you can make of snyder's decision to change the ending, i don't give a fuck. the squid-creature is the proverbial cherry on top, and without it, the movie will feel utterly incomplete. no excuses.

we've seen the mutant bubastis dog pet ozy has and for that to be in the movie without the squid-creature makes absolutely no sense. i hope this movie fails hardcore and i hope snyder never finds work again. that is....unless this trailer blows my mind more than any trailer has ever done before. only then will i have hope. but that's a stretch to say the least.
  • Christopher Marc
finally a full trailer..two cuts of the teaser and I'm dying to see this...I hope they don't give away too much in the full trailer
  • nelson
Matthew you give comic fans a bad name plain and simple do you even know how hard Snyder had to fight to get what is in the film. No one wanted 1980's time frame except Snyder he had to fight for naked Manhattan had to fight for 2 45 time limit. Also the squid has never been in any draft or script and how about you wait to actually see the movie dumb ass i cant wait for you ignorant fanboys to eat your words come 3/6/09
  • Big_Lion
Sweet! I probably won't be able to see QoS this weekend, so it's great that I can still see this trailer online.
  • h2opr00f
Not 100% sure on QOS either this weekend.. but this is what I really wanted to see.. CANT WAIT!
  • Alec
Well now I don't have to see QoS as soon as possible. I could wait for Star Trek's trailer, but not this. I will be counting down the hours.
  • Seeing as this was the only reason I was going to try to see QoS opening weekend, this definitely saves me a trip. I just hope we get something that's been missing from both cuts of the teaser with this new trailer: some honest to god dialogue! I know Snyder said this trailer tells a little bit more of the story, instead on the collage of effects shots that was the teaser. The only way I can see him accomplishing that is with the inclusion of some dialogue, so my hopes for this trailer are pretty high.
  • Captain Awesome
The Watchmen is giving me the same excitement level I had when the first TDK trailers began rolling out.

This wait is going to kill me.

NELSON, THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO LEAVE THE SQUID OUT. ABSOLUTELY NONE.

Explain to me, why, the most important part of the graphic novel is being changed while everything else remains the same? I would rather have him change more elements along with the new ending, than keep everything else the same. That way I could watch the movie and say "Hey, that was a good movie." Instead of "Huh? That's not how Watchmen is supposed to end."

Give me one good reason why the ending has changed and I'll shut up about it. ONE. GOOD. REASON.

I don't care what Snyder had to fight for and I don't care what the scripts had or didn't have originally. You mean to tell me he could fight for all those little details but not the big finale that makes the book so badass? Bullshit.

I don't even have to say why the ending is so important because it's all been said before. Any Watchman fan knows this already.

Like I said, the new trailer better be damn impressive. So far, all we've seen is a music video with cool visuals. The movie will be entertaining, sure, but by changing the ending you are pandering to the will of studios and mass audiences and that is exactly why Alan Moore refuses to watch the adaptations of his novels. Why? Because they fuck it all up and change the context completely.

We have the novel for a reason. If you want the squid ending, read the novel. There are have been plenty of compelling arguments on why the squid does not work as well in the film as it does in the novel. We all hope that the end has the same moral checkmate that the novel presents, and this can be done by replacing the squid with something different. You will have the right to be upset if the REAL important part of the ending, the moral checkmate, is gone. However, there is no need to be upset six months before the movie is released before we even know for sure that the ending is not a great ending for the film. Snyder didn't fight to have the squid because he felt that he could tell a fantastic Watchmen story without it. We all know he is a fan; we've heard his passion when he speaks about it and we've seen his passion when he fought for it. Give the man the benefit of the doubt and respect him for the job he has done of getting a true Watchmen adaptation to the screen.
  • nelson
have you seen film NO so how are you to know if it doesn't work i trust dave gibbons you know the man who drew the damn squid review more than internet watchmen fans the aftermath of the squid is far more important as shocking as the squid is the actions of the characters is more shocking and how the hell do you know wb didn't make him change it so they can reach a broader audience you just don't know
  • Cameron
I just saw some special about the Women of Watchmen on Myspace. Might be cool to link to that as well.
  • Presto117
    @ Cameron

yeah, that's about a week old and was already here.

and i can't wait for this trailer.

i'm actually starting my third read through of watchmen today!

    oh, and Mathew:

    here's one good reason:

you know half the audience would be staring at the squid monster either going:

    Wha--? Seriously?

    OR

Pfft..... it looks like a vagina!!!!!!

Plus what i've heard from some reports is that the new ending has an even bigger impact than the squid did (i've heard not just NYC was destroyed...) and has the same effect without being as.... odd.

The only two things in Watchmen beside the squid that really bend reality are Dr. Manhattan and Bubastis, so i think the squid might ruin the movie for some viewers.

Plus, "accidental" power explosions in major cities around the world would still cause the same impact as the squid.

instead of "oh, no, a million died in one of your cities? We sorry. psh, what hostilities?" it could be "HOLY CRAP!!!! MILLIONS died EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!! WTF?!?!?! We just had a huge disaster across the world, we don't have time for war."
  • I'm not as emotional about it but I agree with matthew.
I'll be impatiently waiting for the trailer on the big screen when I go see QoS.
  • If it is anything near what we saw at COMIC CON 2008 in July, I will be pleased, even without the squid. BTW, I completely agree with Matthew. Perhaps JJ Abrams could CGI a massive squid before he does the sequel to his monster movie. Just askin'.

These are two pretty darned good reasons to see Bond this weekend.
  • matthew
    PRESTO,
The reasons you listed are not good reasons. If it makes sense in the book, it can make sense on film. Who cares if people are like "Wha? It looks like a vagina!" If they think that, the failure is Snyder's fault...not the squids. Alan Moore made it work, and so, there's no reason Snyder couldn't do the same.

How would you feel if at the end of 300, King Leonidas survives? It's the same thing here...it would completely change the meaning of the ending.

BUT, like I said, this new trailer better be impressive and not another montage of slow-mo set to cool music. I have doubts but have not completely written this movie off. No matter what, I will be seeing this movie in theatres...but to be honest, I'm seriously debating whether or not I should buy a ticket to some other movie and sneak into Watchmen with the sole purpose to not contribute to the financial goals of the studios.

The original graphic novel did not pander to the conventions of what comic book readers expect and so, there's no reason why the film can't do the same.

    I'm just saying...
  • 790
    Totally avoiding it.
  • Patrick Bateman
    @790

    Clearly you are.
  • 790
    Clarification.

Totally avoiding the trailers for Watchmen.

I've seen enough allready. I don't want to see the entire film before it comes out... :-)
  • krackajap
Doesn't really matter how many trailers most of us see cause we all know what happens anyway.
  • 790
Yeah not me,, havnt read the book.

I'll probably be one of the few people that will truly be surprised watching the Watchmen...
  • matthew
just saw the new trailer, it's up on yahoo. didn't impress me one bit. pretty much the same ol' footage with more focus on rorschach. not gonna cut it. where's my squid, Snyder?
  • pigFoot
Really Matthew? I thought the squid was the weak point in the original graphic novel. It's a classic example of Moore's impulse to get too many plates spinning at one time (see: Black Dossier) and by the time the final issue shipped it was lost on most readers and completely ruined the pacing.

Either that, or Moore is perfect and no one should ever attempt to make movies based on his work.
