Now that we’re finally getting a black President of the United States, how about a black superhero? Before you leave a comment telling me how Halle Berry played Catwoman in a 2004 feature film, or how Shaquille O’Neal played Steel in 1997, as I’ve tried very hard to forget about both of those films. Beyonce Knowles revealed to the LATimes that she actually recently met with DC Comics and Warner Bros to express her interest in playing Wonder Woman in a big screen movie adaptation.

“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” said Beyonce. “After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking  to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero’. Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy.”

I’m still not sure what to think about the idea of Beyonce in the Wonder Woman costume. Could she make it work?

IESB is also reporting a rumor that DC/WB would like McG to direct Wonder Woman, but no one knows if the talk has progressed any further than “just talk”. After seeing what McG has done with Terminator Salvation (I visited the set, can’t say much more at this time), I believe he could be the right choice to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen. McG was also once attached to Superman, before he dropped out in the later stages of development. I think Wonder Woman might be more his style.

On the other hand, Wonder Woman has been one of the many comic book characters that I’ve just never been interested in. I mean, she drives an invisible plane! I’m betting you that is going to look stupid on the big screen?
