The Pink Panther 2 Movie Trailer

MGM has released a new trailer for The Pink Panther 2. Steve Martin returns as Inspector Jacques Clouseau, who this time teams up with a squad of International detectives who are just as bumbling as he is. Their mission: Stop a globe-trotting thief who specializes in stealing historical artifacts. I understand that this film isn’t made for someone in my demographic, which is kinda strange considering the 1960’s original was geared older, and even nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. I’m a big fan of Steve Martin (just got done reading listening to his new audio book, which I highly recommend), so it hurts me to watch him in something like this. Also, the film was shot in Boston, not France, which many Bostonians (like myself) will quickly notice.

Watch the trailer in high definition on Yahoo. Pink Panther 2 hits theaters on February 6th 2009.

  • what happened to Aishwarya Rai? I thought she's supposed to be in it?

omg i just watched it on yahoo and went home to slashfilm and surely enough, TOP STORY. looks funny.
  • mmm, popcorn
Why is he doing this? These are ghastly.

The originals are truly great fims...this is just sad.

its hard to watch and not feel embarrassed for everyone who was involved in making this. seriously, how the fuck can they think that people will like something like this?

Somewhere Peter Sellers is rolling in his grave.....

This looks even more horrible than the first!
  • An unmitigated, unnecessary film. A handful of the original Pink Panthers are absolute classics. This is a cinematic waste of time with a painfully unfunny Steve Martin. Martin's Clouseau has no absolutely zero charm. It all feels like a farce...of a farce no less.

Steve Martin from Shopgirl and who developed the story for Traitor? How does this happen? Its hard to believe its the same guy..
  • Colin
    WHY STEVE MARTIN WHY?!?!?

Okay, maybe I'm completely insane, but I actually enjoyed the first film quite a bit. sure its completely idiotic, but I love steve martin and for some reason, french steve martin cracked me up. this does look terrible though (apart from "let you bring me up to speed...we know nothing...now you are up to speed")

I saw John Cleese say in an interview once that Steve Martin has one of the most impressive collections of modern art he'd ever seen and that Martin makes all of these movies to pay for it, adding that every couple of years Martin will do a movie in which he is credited as a writer / producer, etc. and that those are the ones to pay attention to.

I liked the first one, and I've actually been waiting for this sequel here ever since I heard bout it awhile back. Steve brings somethin to it.

    Looks fine....

the final scene was the last straw for me...

he says "home" with an enunciated H ?

    French people don't pronounce H

If it was Peter Sellers he would have said "ahh, ome..."

This is as newsworthy as if Matthew Broderick were to do Inspector Gadget 3.
  • elHans
    Poor Peter Sellers
    Fuck Steve Martin
  • Mike
As a student in Boston myself, was that possibly Haymarket station at 2:06 in the trailer?

I thought the first one was funny, but no one can take the place of Peter Sellers in the role. But, I still remember some of the gags from the first movie of Martin, such as him rolling up in the Segway and ticketing the smokers in the park. Good comedy, slapstick humor..

Inspector Cluesue is a classic charachter, so gamely trying to present himself as a professional detective, when in fact he is inept. Cluesue is the same as the character deputy Barney Fife in the Andy of Mayberry television series. In fact, now that I think of it, the whole premise of these two characters is exactly the same, and they are played very similar by the two comic actors. Barney Fife is the redneck version of Inspector Cluesue, and Fife is only a deputy, compared to Cluesue's more exalted position, which of course is only a farce. But, they both try to display a heightened sense of self importance, which is a charade they attempt to pull off, which of course, leads to all the hilariously compromised situations they get themselves in.

This is great humor, both characters, and both Sellers and Don Knots were similarly fantastic, and as one commenter noted, you can laugh just at the expressions they both show when they manage to get themselves in a compromised situation, or when they are displaying their heightened sense of self importance.

Really great actors and great roles, and Martin is passable and funny as Cluesue, but not nearly as good as Sellers or Knots. But, still funny. And that is the test, is it funny enough to make you laugh.
  • @ANGRY BROOMSTICK!!! - Aishwarya Rai is indeed in this trailer!

Look carefully when the video is at 2 minutes and 9 seconds (trailer running time) and you would find Steve talking to her.

Aishwarya says, "How's the case coming?"

We get 2 shots of Aishwarya Rai during that duration :)

    Cheers!
