New Trailer for Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse

Fox has released a new trailer for Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, and I’m still not sold. And why should I be, Fox shut down production for a few weeks, made some character changes and reshot the pilot episode - these are not the actions of a confident studio. Check out the trailer after the jump. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Official Plot Synopsis: Joss Whedon, creator of groundbreaking cult favorites “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly,” returns to television and reunites with fellow “Buffy” alumna Eliza Dushku for a thrilling new drama, DOLLHOUSE. ECHO (Dushku) is an “Active,” a member of a highly illegal and underground group who have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas. Confined to a secret facility known as the “Dollhouse,” Echo and the other Actives including SIERRA (Dichen Lachman, “Neighbours”) and VICTOR (Enver Gjokaj, “The Unit”) carry out engagements assigned by ADELLE (Olivia Williams, “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Rushmore”), one of the Dollhouse leaders. The engagements cater to the wealthy, powerful and connected, and require the Actives to immerse themselves in all manner of scenarios romantic, criminal, uplifting, dangerous, comical and the occasional “pro bono” good deed. After each scenario, Echo, always under the watchful eye of her handler BOYD (Harry Lennix, “Commander in Chief,” 24), returns to the mysterious Dollhouse where her thoughts, feelings and experiences are erased by TOPHER (Fran Kranz, “Welcome to the Captain”), the Dollhouse’s genius programmer. Echo enters the next scenario with no memory of before. Or does she? As the series progresses, FBI Agent PAUL BALLARD (Tahmoh Penikett, “Battlestar Galactica”) pieces together clues that lead him closer to the Dollhouse, while Echo stops forgetting, her memories begin to return and she slowly pieces together her mysterious past. DOLLHOUSE revolves around Echo’s blossoming self-awareness and her desire to discover her true identity. But with each new engagement, comes a new memory and increased danger inside and outside the Dollhouse.

You aren't sold because FOX got cold feet? Since when do we trust FOX to make a single good decision with television? Joss Whedon has a Midas touch. Dollhouse won't be any different. If you want to know why production was shut down and character changes were made, go to Whedonesque.com and read the blog he posted explaining the situation.

please please please let this show be good.
  • tucker: nope, I'm not sold because both of the trailers released thus far look pretty weak
  • DavidPanik
What worries me is that the trailer for the original pilot actually looked a lot better than this new one.
  • katie
Please give it a chance and watch it. I'm from the UK and am fed up of watching great US shows only for them to be cancelled after the 1st season (or even worse, in the middle) only because some people didn't bother to watch it. That really is not fair.
  • jim
"nothing is what it appears to be" are you kidding me?! this will suck.
  • annoyed
can you make this NOT auto-start
  • Goro
The official synopsis sounds confused, somewhat ridiculous, and not very interesting at all. From the trailier it looks like something from the early 90s that should be called "VR-something". Put this idea in David Lynch's hands and it'll be such a mindfsck that you won't notice it being dumn; but Joss Whedon + Fox studio "involvement" == 6 eps and done.
  • So, if you were to ask me what this show was about without giving the plot synopsis, I'd have absolutely no clue. Looks, uh, interesting. And Dushku still looks smokin'.

I'm sorry, Joss. I'm gonna' pass. (And why does everyone have to use Massive Attack's "Teardrop" these days? Ugh).
  • Jonathan
Joss needs to find another producer. Fox screwed him over on in my opinion one of the best Sci Fi TV shows to date.
  • Peter,

Can you please change it so it doesn't autostart? This creates some problems when im surfing at work ;)
  • bob
Hmmm...well, while it's not *actually* Massive Attack it does share similarities. And while it's not *actually* the "Most Original" it looks ok. Didn't the dollhouse idea come from Gibson's Neuromancer? Cross that with whatever season of Alias she was the insomniac and you get this, methinks.

I just hope that there's some singing and dancing.
Joss is at his best when he injects some singing and dancing :)

I'm sold. I have needed a new Joss Whedon show to watch and ill tune in.
  • Suess
Eliza Dushku's starring in it, and honestly that's enough for me to at least be interested in it. So that, PLUS Joss Whedon; I'm going to check out the pilot and make a judgment there.

Also, is that guy who starts the voiceover the guy from The TV Set? In which case, I find that very ironic considering the plot of the movie and the circumstances surrounding this show.
  • Erm... JOSS shut down production and re-wrote/re-shot the pilot episode. And from what I've read, for the better. Joss already posted about all this. Maybe FOX doesn't completely get it, but I just think it's because they want it to succeed - they have definitely invested quite a bit here. [They bought an entire set when the pilot script was just finished instead of buying the pilot episode like networks do for most shows.] And Joss & co. are doing their part in not allowing it to become too dull for a particular audience, the old fans. Actually, a couple Joss fans who had seen/read the original pilot said they got lost. So, again, it seems like it's all for the better. And actually, I admit it, I wasn't too keen on the original trailer... but this one? I'm sold. Maybe not completely, but definitely enough. The end of the trailer was intense/spooky/uncomfortable, which seems to be what Joss wanted all along. So I think everything is just fine.

Why do people ride this dudes jock so hard, I feel like i have seen this show a thousand times already. If you wanna see a similar idea watch Gun Slinger Girls it almost the same story.
  • south texas terror
very similar to the summer glau plotline in Sarah Conor
  • Jon
Either remove the video or make it NOT auto-start. Extremely annoying and I probably won't check the site again until it's off the front page.
  • Mikey M
So much for being objective. They shut this down so they could make it better. Dont you understand that?
I am looking forward to it. Cant be too bad with Eliza and Tamoh (sp?) in it.
  • Meli
The trailer is fine as a teaser for the show, which I am looking forward to watching. I will given anything Joss creates a chance and it's a big plus with Eliza staring!
Hell, if can continue to give the snoozefest Fringe till mid-season watching Dollhouse is a no brainer.
  • Mikey M
Auto run is annoying. I have heard the beginning of this about 8 times as I click and post.
  • They might have something here!...good luck with the show.

I'll check it out here & there.
  • N4X
Eliza is a big hurdle to get over but I'll give Whedon a chance.
  • In the photo, the girl standing next to Eliza looks like an alien. Like one of those overused green, big-eyed, aliens. Pretty creepy. I can't stop staring at it.
Also, the guy in the red looks really sad. :(
  • TheAverageDave
the auto-play on this video is really annoying for people like me who check this site multiple times a day.
  • cait
Um, it looks turrrrible.. like it should be called D.E.B.S. or something. Lame.

And that theme song is the most blatant rip-off of Teardrop by massive attack I've ever heard.
  • Mitch
    TURN AUTO-PLAY OFF, PLEASE.
  • nope
i dont know if eliza will be able to carry this...I always thought she was one of the weaker actors on buffy...
  • theninjasquad
Thanks for posting a video that cannot be seen outside of the US.
