Fanboys Movie Trailer

The Weinstein Co has released a new trailer for Fanboys. Set in 1998 the film, starring Jay Baruchel, Dan Fogler, Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, and Kristen Bell, comes a comedy that follows a group of young, passionate Star Wars fans on a cross-country quest to break into George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch and watch “Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace,” before it’s released.

I had the opportunity to finally see the film at Fantastic Fest 2008. It’s not a great film, but I’m sure that most geeks/fanboys will find something to love about this road trip comedy. And in its best moments, its a love letter to fandom. The new trailer isn’t the best, but it does give you a good idea of what to expect. I love how they announce the cameos in the trailer, not even by the actors/actresses real names, but by the Star Wars characters they played in the films. And the fact that Kevin Smith is billed as “the guy from Die Hard 4″ is classic. I would be interested to hear what you guys think in the comments below.

    Oh man, that was quite terrible. Just utterly terrible. I know people will defend it but that truly did suck ass (the pathetic wookie joke, the "force is strong with me right now" dialogue... CRINGE!!!!). I won't be hiring it when it hits DVD, I'll watch it on late night when there are no other options available.

    I question the thinking behind this trailer.

    This movie lost all credibility the moment one of the nerds was in bed with a super hot girl. Still, I didn't expect harry knowels to be in this. There's definitely a movie to be made out of the very strange world of scifi movie fandom, which is full of all kinds of weird fuckers like myself. Seriously, I hope the movie focuses on the many warring factions between the fans. I know way too much about this but it's so true. There's old trilogy fans, SE fans, Prequel fans, and they all hate each other. It's stuff you just can't write.

    am i alone to think that this concept (along with clerks 2) is like about 10 years too late? are star wars jokes still funny like george lucas retelling the clone wars over and over again is good?

    this is a redbox free movie monday at best.

    anyway, this looks fucking great. I know that about halfway into the movie the references are just gonna get really obscure, and I'm gonna love it. other people? probably not as much, but it should still be funny.

    I've been wanting to check out "5-25-77" (now just "'77", apparently). Similar theme, stuck in post-production limbo forever at this point.

    this trailer feels like a year old, don't we know who danny mcbride is by now and why aren't they playing off kristen bell more? isn't she popular because of forgetting sarah marshall? instead they choose to play up dan fogler? weird decisions.

    I actually want to see this film. I mean, a lot of stuff happened behind the scenes, but at the end of the day you need to see the film to judge it.

    For those of the Star Wars Extremists Fandom, this movie will be the greatest movie ever short of Star Wars itself.

    To everyone else, it will still probably deliver a few solid laughs but leave them wondering what the hype was about.


    For me personally...the greatest movie ever (short of The Empire Strikes Back).

  • I can't wait to see this movie. I've been waiting for years for it to finally come out and I think the trailer looks great.

    Solid - If you've seen the whole scene in context (I did back at Star Wars Celebration) it makes since that he's in bed with a hot chick. Trust me.

    The Cancer story is back in, but they don't have to advertise it though. But thanks to the real fanboys the cancer came back as it were. And I promise you Kristen Bell is still in the movie.

    I saw it at the UK Celebrations weekend last year and i loved it.

    Just take it for what it is and enjoy.

    If you are a Star Wars fan then you will probably
    get more from it than anyone else.

    It`s great fun with some really cool cameos
    and the great Kristen Bell is in it
    although she`s hardly in the trailer.

    I for one can`t wait to see the finished movie.
