Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino Movie Trailer

Warner Bros has released the first trailer for Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino. Earlier this week Warners released the first photo and poster for the film. The trailer shows us a racist grumpy old Eastwood, who tells to a bunch of local gang bangers “Get off my lawn” I kid you not.

In the movie, Eastwood plays a disgruntled racist Korean War vet named Walt Kowalski, who sets out to reform his neighbor, a young Hmong immigrant teenage neighbor (played by newcomer Bee Vang), who, as part of a gang initiation, tried to steal Kowalski’s prized possession: his 1972 Gran Torino. Walt ends up confronting prejudices that have isolated him.

This looks like another solid Eastwood film, unlike Changeling, which just looks “blah” (reviews also agree). Watch the trailer below, and tell me what you think in the comments!

Watch the trailer in high definition on Apple.com. Gran Torino hits theaters on December 17th 2008.

  • Wow, this looks... bad *cringe* Okay, okay, the movie looks decent, but Eastwood... I'm sorry, he's too over the top for me. I really hope this isn't his last acting role, like he said it'd be.
  • Charles
That looked fucking fantastic. The trailer really grabbed me.
  • orange cinema
LOL!! Dammit I love Eastwood! This looks great & so does changeling. But I also hope that he continues to act.
  • Mikey
This just looks decent, but I think Eastwood is a little over-the-top as the "don't mess with me" hardcore Harry Calahan-type.

I like Eastwood, but this might be too much like "Crash" where it's a message of doing the right thing, but in an after-school special kind of way and not a captivating Oscar or AFI classic.
  • Dylan
I think he gets more and more badass as he ages. In Dirty Harry, he hated crime. Now he's old and pissed and ready for revenge!
  • Dude this is like oldschool crazy Eastwood with a gun! I'm pumped.
  • Jack
Gran Torino looks great & will no doubt be manna from heaven for adults starved of movies for grown-ups.

"This looks like another solid Eastwood film, unlike Changeling, which just looks “blah” (reviews also agree)."

Reviews are mixed on Changeling. Plenty of raves & not just pans.
  • Brian
what!? Changeling looks totally solid, and so does this
  • sideshowRaheem
Seriously why does anyone else even try. Let's just hand him another half a dozen Oscar nomanations right now.
  • Mikey
Eastwood's voice in Gran Torino = Bale's voice in The Dark Knight
  • egyptnation
the gravely voice is too much. also, eastwood said that his character curses up a racist storm in this movie. i hope that is true because it would make the movie less of an after-school special. obviously, they couldn't keep the swearing in the green-band trailer.
  • Brian
people complaints with coarse voices are way too picky and totally unvalidated. seriously, it's not hard to understand. it's like making fun of someone who speaks differently than you, which would just make you an asshole.
  • Sheriff Dewey
This movie looks incredible. Wait and see - Eastwood and Rourke will be neck and neck for best actor. Clint never ceases to amaze.
  • steve
The movie looks great and i have no doubt that the acting will be solid, but I was just waiting for eastwood to say "get off my lawn, you will"

I mean he sounds like yoda! (yet some how it is still bad ass)
  • Thankyoufor
    this looks amazing
    Eastwood is a God
  • Truecoat
When this project was first being talked about, it was speculated that it was a Dirty Harry movie. It looks like they could have easily made it that way. Not really necessary but it looks like they could have. I like what I see and I have a feeling that the "old" man is going to go out in a blaze of glory!

Director & Producer Clint Eastwood presents Clint Eastwood starring Clint Eastwood.
  • T
    he talks like batman
  • south texas terror
Eastwood makes Bale look like blankman
  • I was pretty bleh about Changeling from the beginning, but this looks like the top-notch Eastwood of the 00s. I'm so there.
  • Mr. B
I'm hoping there's a bit more to it than what we're seeing here. Otherwise the trailer kinda tells the whole movie. Eastwood is at his best when his characters are being thoughtful. That's what made Million Dollar Baby, Flags and Letters, so excellent.

    Haven't seen Changeling yet.
  • oh my god

another trailer with the shitty reverse choir looping scream, goddamnit. the trailer houses must have gotten a new package of library materials.

::CUE RAGE AT SHITTY SOUND EFFECT USED TO ACCENTUATE NOTHING::
  • C
the thing eastwood does best is take typical, cliche storylines and spin them on their heads. it started with Uniforgiven, and have continued on. I am sure that this movie will be the same way. It will be completely unexpected in the way it deals with the subject matter.
  • danno
    "he talks like batman"

And he don't need no latex costoom either!
  • freemachine
Totally bad azzzzz. I hope Kowalski owns a .44 automag, or at least a .357.
  • Craig M.
    Walt Kowalski, huh?

Wonder if they named the character after the late "Killer" Kowalski.
  • jan
    get off my lawn!
    i want to see it
  • Tyler J.
I don't know, I am pretty excited about this film. Yeah the voice is weird (but he's like 1000 years old) and yeah, the badass with a gun vibe might be contrived with Eastwood, but I'm glad he's come back to this kind of movie.

I think this will be worth the 8$.
  • ekips
    IF WOLVERINE GOT OLD...
  • Celing
Now this is what I'm talking about! Eastwood kicking ass again. Not sure the whole movie will stand out, but I love seeing Clint give the whipper-snappers a whoopin'. I'll be there!

As for Changeling I would love to see it, except for the fact that Angelina Jolie drives me bat sh*t crazy as an actor. Much like Tom Cruise you only get Jolie as Jolie most of the time. Girl Interrupted is maybe the only exception. But arguably she is only playing herself in that role too.
  • 4ton
No this is what i like to see. Clint is getting older, yes, but the role fits him. It wouldn't be the same movie if he were 25. His voice, well, that's his voice. he i 78 years old afterall...

But this movie seems to have what a majority of Eastwoods other movies have, more than one dimension. Even though the Hollywood bar has dropped about as low as the DOW has, Eastwood's personal bar is much much higher and typically old school.

I do like what ekips said:

    IF WOLVERINE GOT OLD…

    old man strength.
  • So, did anyone else notice when Clint pulled the finger-gun out of his jacket right at the beginning of the trailer? I thought this was going to be another instance where all images of guns were removed or replaced in the trailer ... you know, until they started showing up every other frame in the second half of the trailer. Which leads me to ask, WTF is going on with the finger-gun?
  • Mike
    fast and furious.
  • Patrick Bateman
It's Grumpy Old Men meets Crash meets Dirty Harry.

I'm really at a loss for words..
  • south texas terror
nick you thought the flash trailer was real so nobody listens to what you say and yes Im pointing a finger gun at you right now
  • galdersorg
QUIT BITCHING!!!! Jeezus you guys sound like little girls. I looks great.
  • The dynamic of the neighborhood and eastwoods track record give this film hope but could that trailer be edited any worse? Every line from Clint sounds like he's gritting his teeth and I almost got dizzy from all the fades thru black. I look forward to seeing another trailer where hopefully they will clear up this sad first attempt.
  • evanz
I'll definitely see it, but the gang looks pretty pussy-ish.
  • robN
Clint Eastwood is a BAD ASS
  • Vin
Adhering to the Batman comments: I still think the idea of Clint Eastwood as Batman in an adaptation of TDK: Returns is amazing
  • livingdots
    > I’ll definitely see it, but the gang looks pretty pussy-ish.

Well, it is an ASIAN gang after all...
  • yeah that looks great.Redeemed Racists V Bullying Gang members always works well. They are a legit target and he learns to love ! what more could you want. Whats all this moaning about his gravely voice? is dark knight the only film anyone can remember? He was pretty growly in the unforgiven.
  • orange cinema
and he was beyond graevlly in million $ baby which was also brilliant. this will be the type of film we havent seen in a while, and pretty much clint is just a badass.

    @ ekips

the 'old wolverine' quip was brilliant. really dead on.

    @ vin

clint for the batman role in tdkreturns adaptation?! thats just fucking perfect too! imagine clint vs daniel day lewis as the joker, in that adaptation...put nolan or snyder at the helm, and that would be a fun venture. they'd have to figure out a way to bulk eastwood up, but it could be great - it'll never happen, but we can dream.
  • Tom
Awesome! Clint Eastwood is the toughest old man on the planet. "Get off my lawn!" Instant classic.
  • Not bad, looks like old school stuff, might check it out!
  • JR
It will be better than the latest ROCKY movie...hands down! I'm excited
  • asian girl
its good to know that clint eastwood is trying to have americans recognize the other types of asian people, cause there's not only chinese or japanese...hmong people are here too and the movie is true to the depth of hmong gang violence, as well as the asian trials that we go through in america.
  • Bruce
Clint IS Dirty Harry, everytime he does this type of movie. The emotions of the film change to a degree, but Dirty Harry always comes out and KICKS *SS in the end.
    Nice car, too.
  • Zioner 1110
I nearly lost it over the spitting scene. Who woulda thought spitting could be so classic and funny?
  • J. White
Clint Eastwood takes over where Charles Bronson left off.....
A classic dude who does what most won't...
