Cool Stuff: Fan Made Bumblebee Costume

Just in time for Halloween, Transformers Live points us toward Lionel Lum’s incredible Transformers Bumblebee costume.

Created for the 2008 San Diego Comic Con International, the costume is made out of “foamboard, hobby foam, vinyl signage applique, and is held together with tons of hot glue and some duct tape here and there.”

Lionel says it took him three months to design and build.

He spent 8 hours a day in the suit during the con, and claims it only takes 10 minutes to put on and 5 minutes to remove.

Wow. They should have just let this guy make the costumes for the movie and saved a boatload on CGI work.

For the longest time I couldn't see it as a costume. I just thought "Uhhh wtf...that's a toy..." then I saw the legs, that's a good costume.
  • The Burg
    impressive indeed

The most important question now is that does he have game (with the ladies)?

J/K Fantastic work on the costume.
  • Spence
Incredible! He's almost made the BayFormers-style look like a coherent shape!
  • Every year a new costume comes out at these cons that is just absolutely amazing. This rocks.

Good Idea + Spare Time + TransFanBoy = Bitchin' Bumblee Costume. Sweet looking - although I'd definitely take off the Chevy logo. It just doesn't fit with the sleek design of the costume. A VW in its place would look far more appropriate.
  • Geminate
While nice, it sure is flamable...just a flick of the Bic and WOOOSHHH!!!
  • How the hell are you supposed to drink a beer with that thing on?
  • wren
now if he could build one to scale, I would be thoroughly impressed. (and turned on)
  • Matt
I would love to wear that costume, it is way cool.
  • SweetKay
    I would totally hit that.

Its better than a lot of the others I've seen, but its crap compared to what I saw in Vegas last year on Halloween.
