Marley and Me Movie Trailer

Remember that really lame teaser trailer which features a dog running on a beach? Well, Fox has finally decided to release a full length trailer for David Frankel’s adaptation of Marley & Me. John Grogan’s New York Times bestselling book has been described as both hilarious and heartwarming, but this just looks like a paint by numbers romantic comedy. Oh, but it has a cute dog and comes out on Christmas Day, so its sure to make tons of money. Also, is anyone else getting tired of Jennifer Aniston? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

The official book cover description follows: The heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life. John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same.

Marley quickly grew into a barreling, 97-pound streamroller of a Labrador Retriever, a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors, gouged into drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women’s undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry. Obedience school did no good -Marley was expelled. Neither did the tranquilizers the veterinarian prescribed for him with the admonishment, “Don’t hesitate to use these.”

And yet, his heart was pure. Just as Marley joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. He shared the couple’s joy at first pregnancy, and their heartbreak over miscarriage. He was there when babies finally arrived and when the screams of a 17-year-old stabbing victim pierced the night. Marley shut down a public beach and managed to land a role in a feature-length movie, always winning hearts as he made a mess of things. Through it all, he remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at wit’s end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.

Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans.

  • Go Goya
This was a great book for anyone that considers themselves a dog lover, primarily because Grogan makes Marley the focus of the book and looks at himself and his family only by how they came to be affected by the dog. The parts that focused more on just the interaction between him and his wife were weak by comparisson.

This movie is going to be, just like you said, a romantic comedy with some poor Lab thrown in to make the story similar to the book. Even the parts of the book that were more difficult to read were still good because of the genuine emotion in them and because of Wilson's nose and the fact that Anniston has the emotional range of a jellyfish they're probably going to water those down to nothing.

The trailer looks very funny and very true to the book. I'm looking forward to seeing it on Christmas Day. Also I enjoy Owen's and Jennifer's work so that's a plus for me! Read where they used over 27 Marleys for this movie-it will be great!
  • joelnstuff
It needs to be asked - what the hell happened to Kathleen Turner?
  • Nancy
She developed Rheumatoid Arthritis and became very ill.
  • Of course you're not the onyl one tired of Aniston, lol, but are you sure this isn't the trailer for that new straight-to-DVD Beethoven sequel? Where's Stephen Tobolowsky?
  • MonkeyMafia
Can't say I was excited to see the movie when hearing about it(though I thought Devil Wears Prada was very good and was a frighteningly accurate portrayal of an assistant to a vip) and I goofed on my girl when she kept saying how good the book was cause the whole thing just screamed QVC watching women who like to browse the Hallmark store. BUT I do like Owen Wilson even when he's in terrible movies.

Peter, I don't see the generic romantic comedy you're seeing (it's about a family starting out but there's no Made of Honor romantic interest persuit) but, yes, I will be seeing it for the puppies; I'm a bit of a dog nut and will love to relate to the horrors of puppyhood with my dog Maeby.
  • MonkeyMafia
Oh but I don't understand Aniston's appeal at all, the most plain looking celeb of all time who can't sell a good joke one bit.
  • Naz
So what if she's plain, its about the dog not her. Its not a show on how well a celeb dresses, its about how well they can actually act and I know Anniston can act and you sound like you just want to see a sexy celeb not an actually film?
  • What's not to love! A hot chick, a sweet dog, and Owen the funny. I think this movie will be enjoyable for everyone, but seems to be only appealing to girls and mothers right now. I haven't seen the latest trailer yet, but hopefully it shows the dog as an adult terrorizing and pissing all over their house. That would definately widen your target audience.
  • JD Benear
You won't be disappointed then. The movie was an incredible disapointment if you have any class or values. For a PG movie, it was crude, the language was offensive and was definitely NOT a family movie. On top of all that it was sad! Bad choice for a Christmas Day or any other day for that matter.
  • James
Shouldn't it be Marley & Us? I feel that crucial error will knock millions off the box office.
  • Pete (original)
i almost cried reading that description.
  • Alan
I don't hold high hopes for this, but maybe it could be ok, nothing objectionable in the trailer. I loved the book, maybe the only book that's made me cry at the end, yes cry, I said it, I just can't see Owen Wilson having that same effect.
  • Mikey M
I love Aniston and look forward to this movie. As a Dog lover, I totally understand the love (and sometimes frustration) with a pet.
    Wouldn't miss it.
  • Go Goya
The only thing that's going to make me cry during this movie is the thought of 27 well trained dogs having two work with two poorly trained ones.
  • Elissa
I have a deep respect for Owen Wilson, because despite his easy-going, life's-just-a-day-at-the-beach exterior, he seems like a guy who's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. Like some golden, tragic clown forced to perform.

But this movie makes me want to VOMIT. VOMIT IN CAPITAL LETTERS. SPEW FORTH CHUNKS.
  • StarBlazer101
Well at least the dog doesn't talk.
  • It made me laugh
  • Babetta
I will go and see the movie for sure.

    I absolutely love Aniston.
  • Stoned One
The trailer looks okay. The book was better. The book was fantastic, it was heart-filled and touching, all of the moments showcased in the trailer seem so over the top and cheap.

I guess I ruined the movie by reading the book. Ba Humbug!
  • Was that dog trainer Kathleen Turner? She's not listed on IMDB but I swear it was her.
  • NO THANKS
the book is seriously amazing, I'll def. see this. It won't live up to it, but it'll be pretty good.
  • wilberfan
Popcorn, you're right. I had the same thought. Kathleen Turner. :-O
  • Christopher Edwards
trailer reminds me of what me and my dog go through every day, i have done majority of the things in that trailer or worse.
  • Eric B.
OMG I remember crying at the end of the book. I can't wait
  • janice
will see this movie love jen, owen and dogs. those that are not for jennifer aniston it is their own problem for being bais about some one they do not know. get real and stop hating on a woman that has hurt nobody. I wish i had her looks as i think she is cute and looks amazing for her age, she will age well. movie a must see sick of murder, and tragic stories.
  • Stoned One
no offense guys, but this looks like Beethoven (1992)
  • Video not available.
  • Annie
I am excite to see Marley and me movie on christmas day. The trailer is very funny and wonderful. It makes me laught. I love Owen, Jennifer and dog.
  • Joe
Those who are comparing a movie that they HAVE YET TO SEE cannot put this down because of a book they read prior. Seriously, are all you people critics like Ebert now? YOU HAVE SEEN THE DAMN MOVIE YET! STOP SAYING IT'S GOING TO SUCK

Unless you have seen it the go on right ahead and give your 2 cents. We all get it Marley and Me book readers, THE BOOK WAS GOOD, but GIVE THE FUCKING MOVIE A CHANCE.

@Elissa: You have said nothing about the trailer that would make you vomit. What you glorify Owen but vomit over the movie you have not seen? Seriously, say something about the trailer that would make you vomit all over it otherwise keep that shit to yourself.

    @Everyone-who-says-that-this-movie-is-going-to-be-nothing-like-the-book:
SHUT UP, you haven't seen it yet to be complaining about the movie. And if you haven't noticed, the movie is an ADAPTATION for the book so obviously there isn't going to complete similarities BECAUSE ITS A FREAKING ADAPTATION! Look it up if you think that word means "COMPLETELY THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL FORM."

And for those who are complaining about Aniston. Besides the fact that she is in the tabloids and constantly being heart broken, how can you get tired of her when in the last year (being 2007-now) SHE HAS BARELY DONE A THING TO BE TIRED OF. Her last movie was the break-up and now she's going to be on 30 Rock. What proof do you all have of her that would make you sick of her? Seriously? Out of all the Friend's cast, AT LEAST SHE IS DOING SOMETHING MORE. The youngest of them all and probably the more successful of them all, alongside Courtney Cox-Arquette and Matthew Perry.
  • Andrew
What is going on here? I thought /film appealed to cineastes and had an audience of film/art appreciators, yet I just read twelve posts endorsing this fucking lame-looking dog comedy? I clicked through to read the comments assuming it would be hilarious, but instead, I get whimsy and endorsement? Is this why Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Max Payne are winning their weekends so easily?
    Who are you people?

PS - Joe's post above is bizarre. There's fandom and there's obsessed lunacy. Watch it, man: you're gargling with freak juice.
  • Joe
@Andrew: I'm not obsessed with anything. Telling me to watch it? I'm simply defending an unreleased movie against those who have so far shitted on it simply based on a 2 minute segment. Thats like saying Transformers 2 is going to suck because of the pictures that have been leaked/released. If you're going to say why my shit is bizzare, at least have some reason to it because if you don't then simply shut your face.
  • Meli
I laughed at the end part of the trailer when the dog was nearly out the car window, but the rest made me cringe. There is no way I can sit through a movie with a misbehaving dog it would drive me bonkers. When I was a kid it was funny, but as an adult it only makes me want to smack the dog owners in the film.
  • bett4e
thank you for making all those for making this wonderful animal into a movie for all to love. i can not wait to see this movie, own the movie on dvd, buy anything and all things with marley on it!!!!!!! you see i too had a dog like marley and it died. it honors all. thank you
  • Chloe
Okay so I can't stand Jennifer Anniston so I'm really disappointed in the choices for the movie. I have to admit it does look good but only because of the dog that they chose as the main star. Will I go and see it?? You betcha! Do I think Anniston and Wilson are going to keep me amused. Absolutely not..So with that said I'm on the defense. Maybe people should just keep a book alone. Not make it into anything else. Right now I'm reading the book " Dewey" a true story based on a kitty who was dropped into a book drop off at a library and how he made an impact on everyone. Do I expect a movie to be made of this? Absolutely. What will ruin this book will as well as Marley and Me is having someone like Jennifer Anniston as the made character in this too. Did I mention watching her as an actress I'd rather get the plague. Maybe thats a bit more realistic
  • kathy blair
The book was wonderful. I have three dogs and have loved and lost three in my lifetime. Oh..... The stories I could tell about each dog! Dogs bring joy and they have some sort of uncanny way of knowing when we need for them to just sit by us and pour out love that only a dog lover can understand. I can't wait to see the movie...not because of Owen or Jennifer but because of the story that is going to be told on the big screen. Please folks dont miss the meaning of this movie. If you love dogs and understand the unconditional love that they bring into our lives (along with the things that make us nuts as dog owners) you will enjoy something worth our time... and I for one look forward to seeing something real and heartwarming. Thank to the Jenny and James for not giving up on Marley. Many folks would have given up , and thanks for letting us share your story.
  • Emilee
I love the book! My two dog do about the same thing. I am so excited to see the movie, because the book was so real I feat like I was there.
  • Dave
Most of you, I can see by reading have never had a Lab. They are the greatest dogs period. They can (and have) drive you crazy! I've read the book, I cryed, I laughed and I know the movie will make me do the same. Its about a dog that teaches you life and how to live it. I could care less who the actors are.

I agree with Kathy Blair above..
  • Claire
That makes no sense. The one telling the story is "me," it matches the book, andMarley&Me sounds much better.
  • Claire
I think Andrew's right. It;s fine for you to post your opinion, but many of us would appreciate if you didn't do it so rudely. I'm glad you support the movie, Joe, but please don't be swearing and boing rude.
  • lizhill

  • Lori Sanders
Marley and Me Looks HILARIOUS!! I can't wait to see the movie! I read the book twice (so far) and LOVED it. I'm really excited about Jennifer and Owen starring in this movie - I love them both. I actually cried and laughed at the same time watching the trailer. Yes, I am a sap!
  • Lori Sanders
I totally agree. I have 4 labs; actually only 2 of them are full-blooded. We adore them. They are loveable but can be a bit notty at times. But because they're so endearing, they're worth it
  • Lori Sanders
    Amen, sister!
    Lori
  • Lottie
I loved the book and am looking forward to the movie.
  • Michael
