First Look: Brad Pitt in Inglourious Basterds

Empire Magazine brings us a first look at Brad Pitt in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (yes, correct misspelling). In the film, Pitt plays Lt. Aldo Rain (aka Aldo The Apache), a leader of a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “the basterds” (hence the title). Accompanied by German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger), the squad is on a mission to track down, scalp, and viciously kill Nazis in an attempt to spread fear among the Third Reich. Rain is a Tennessee mountain hillbilly, and has a large scar on his neck (seen in the photo), rumored to be the result of a lynching. The film is currently in production in Germany.

  • Arch Stanton
Would it be too much to ask you to just use the correct correct spelling? Most of us aren't retarded and high like Quentin always is.

And I say that with love, this movie is gonna be awesome.
  • Harry Lime
    Sweet.
  • @Arch Stanton

It would be wrong and stupid to use the "correct spelling"
Being correct in the case of a title is staying faithful to whatever the hell the creator intended it to be.

    Hell yeah

QT is capable of making a great movie. Here's hoping he keeps it tight and trims all the cutesy pop culture jibber-jabber.
  • A Better Class of Criminal
    Ahhh, another Tarantino classic. :)
  • waffles r g00d
Make the uniform blue and the boots red, and you've got yourself Captain America right there. =O
  • whatever
So true waffles. Someone make this guy Cap already.
  • @ 88,

Seeing as it is a period piece, I highly doubt this cast will be rambling on about Big Kahuna burgers and television shows... but I'd like to bet we see an old=school packet of Red Apple cigarettes, or an old tobacco tin with Red Apple branding.

    Can't wait for this film!
  • Vobe
it's the amazing make-up work and costume that makes this picture so amazing.. bad ass

Cultural references will be in this movie.

Red Apple cigarrettes can be the cancer stick of choice for Lt. Rain.

Big Kahuna Burger is a reference to a "Hawaiian Burger" joint that may have been bombed in Pearl Harbor.

    Ect. Ect.

Tarantino has NEVER made a movie that wasn't interesting to watch. Just because this is a period piece doesn't mean that QT won't make it all a part of his Universe.

And about that watch....I think we might hear about or even see Dane Coolidge in person in IB.
  • @ Jezzus,

I hear ya, and that's what I was pointing out: QT UNIVERSE, yes. POP CULTURE, hell no; 'pop culture' didn't exist yet.

And I agree, I'm sure the watch will get a mention, for sure!

Are you saying there was no popular culture in the 1940s?

Wow. I wonder what those people listened to on the radio. I wonder what they went to see when they went to the movie theatre. I wonder what they read about in their newspapers.

Life in 1940s America sure musta been weird, back before popular culture was invented.

    We're all so lucky.

When referring to the title of the film in the future, you can acquit yourself by typing "[sic]" after it. Less characters than you're using right now.
  • charles
    I hope its good.
  • Rockme
    damn great picture
  • Jon Rhodes-Lloyd
Brad Pitt as a Jewish Tennessee hillbilly? I love it.
  • Jimmy Mac
Will Mike Myers be doing a Scottish accent?

First, I'd like to say I am a big fan of QT. I like the fact that he is a true fanboy and makes the movies that he'd like to see if he was still working in that video store.

That being said, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE TO COME OUT!!! I mean, I have to wait, but dammit, COME OUT ALREADY!

I read the script (pretty easy to find online) and it is sooo good. No one writes dialogue as good as QT, so take his snappy, witty dialogue, couple it with an awesome setting and story, and you've got the most kick ass movie of the year!

Brad Pitt is PERFECT for Aldo Raine. Even thinking about the first scene with the Basterds gives me goosebumps, knowing that Pitt is going to deliver, perhaps the best war/pump-up-the-soldiers "Here's what we're going to do, men" speech in cinema history. Bad-ass.

Also, to those that have issue with the spelling of "Basterds", the group of Jewish-American soldiers kicking the Germans a$$ - know that it is intentionally misspelled because it was a name given to the group by the Nazis, so it is supposed to be a German spelling of "bastards".

So my wishes for QT to do a kung-fu flick and a war flick have been answered.
Now if only he'd answer my wish for a spy movie.
