Star Trek Updates: Running Time, Trailer and More

We haven’t updated Star Trek in a while, so lets get to it. During a recent online chat with The Guardian, director JJ Abrams was asked why he got involved in the film. And I think his answer says a lot about what we should expect from the final film: “It didn’t feel like a classic reboot or prequel. It is a brand new thing inspired by characters that are poised to make a big comeback.”

JJ Abrams insists that the film’s running time won’t be much longer than 120 minutes, ranting to MTV that he’s “sick of these two hours and forty-five minute movies.”

Abrams also claims that when he showed Simon Pegg (who plays Scotty in the film) the trailer on his iPhone at Comic Con, the actor “started weeping.” It should be disclosed that the man was also plastered. But what I’m wondering is, if Abrams had a finished trailer on his iPhone at Comic Con, why weren’t the fans shown anything? I thought the reason given back then was “nothing was finished enough to show”…

Trek Movie is reporting that the first trailer will hit theaters in November, possibly attached to a non Paramount film like Sony’s Quantum of Solace.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAH
How weak is that Paramount. Finished trailer and no footage at Comic-Con? Just goes to show you they still don't completely get it with Star Trek.

How odd. I wept when I saw Simon Pegg had been cast as Scotty.

He's sick of 2 hour and 40 minute movies, wow that says alot about his attention span. I wonder if he is making a poke at TDK since that is the only recent long running time movie. I think this will be really good though, but not great, I'm still unsure about some people who were cast ,aka Tyler Perry?!?

This movie will make Trekkies out us normal folk.

isn't a trailer for watchmen supposed to go with quantum of solace? if so another reason to go see 007. either way cant wait to see the trek trailer.

I heard Simon Pegg was teary eyed cuz he found out that Don Cheedle had been cast in Iron man 2 :,(
  • Batman
When scotty weeps, you know that's a hell of a good scotch!
  • I'm not a Stark Trek fan and I'm pretty sure the only reason I'm not is because I've barely watched more than an episode but I'm looking forward to this release. I'm also glad that it will be around 2 hours. TDK pulled off it's long runtime but does anyone remember Spider-Man 3 (139 min) or Pirates 3 (168 min!!!)?
  • I heard that Bond 22 "Quantum of Solace" should have a teaser trailer...
  • Star Trek (2009) / Star Trek: Corporate Headquarters / Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Tyler Perry co-stars others as follow:

Bruce Greenwood as Captain Christopher Pike
    Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson
    Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk
    Clifton Collins, Jr as Ayel
    Ben Cross as Sarek
Greg Ellis as Chief Engineer Olson

Jj hates long, well thought out films, because he couldn't successfully do one. I don't know anyone who is excited for this film.

I know... How about... ADD Abrahams?!? Seriously, movies should be as long or as short as they have to be. No one should have to compromise cuz some wanky-nosed weirdo says so.

Sick of long movies? What is this guy a friggin child with ADHD? Good movies with in depth scripts and a compelling story line usually need to be over two hours, otherwise you get a plot holes and crap like they did with Hancock. The Lord of the Rings, TDK, Casino Royale all were long movies, but were so engaging and well writting that it didn't seem like that. Also, cut those movies to make them shorter and it loses all flavor. Heck, the upcoming film Watchmen is said to be at 2hr 45mins at this point because the director wants to stay true to the material. Look JJ, I know you have talent, but do not be afraid to make this movie over two hours to add material that will make it a solid script. You are already on thin ice just for doing this project that many do not believe in (Trek fans included).

I agree with JJ on the long movie thing. I'm a busy man. I just watched Aliens vs Predator: Requiem. 89 minutes. Get in, make some noise, get out. Next.
