10 Things I Hate About You TV Series?

ABC Family has ordered a half-hour television pilot based on the 1999 teen comedy 10 Things I Hate About You, which starred Julie Stiles, Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Many teenagers don’t realize that the film was actually a modern day tetelling of William Shakespeare’s Taming Of The Shrew (hence the film’s title - 10 Things I hate About You). Gil Junger, who filmed the original 1999 film will also helm the pilot.

The series will focus more on sisters Kate and Bianca Stratford facing their new high school enviorment. Whatever that means. No word on if the series will continue to play off Shakespeare (I doubt it) or if Julie Stiles will have a cameo, or possibly a reoccurring role as a teacher or guidance councilor (not likely)? The whole thing sounds like a really bad idea. 10 Things is one of the few really good high school romantic comedies of the last ten years for a combination of different reasons, none of which will likely translate to the ABC Family television series.

How about no? The movie is a classic that needs no prequel, no sequel, no spin off, not anything.

I don't think the movie was so good that just the idea of this sort of a spin-off initiates my integrity/gag reflex... and it's been almost a decade since the original came out; this is obviously targeting a completely different demographic than the film did back when it was released -- I imagine most people who would watch this haven't seen the movie or, even if they did, wouldn't relate to it anymore.

meanwhile some sucker is trying to pitch something hopelessly original and innovative, only to be rebutted for adaptations of nine year old high school comedies based on shakespeare...i guess some exec is hoping for the success of 'clueless'.
  • Can't forget the other notables in the cast Gabrielle Union and Alex Mack herself: Larisa Oleynik

this is a terrible idea. one of the reason the movie was good was because heath ledger was in it. and arent the characters names the same? did they stay in high school for 10 years or somethin?? its almost never a good idea to make a tv series out of a movie. the age group watchin the series probably isnt even old enough to remember the movie.

I agree that making a series from the movie would be a terrible idea. The movie needs nothing else, but I feel the need to mention that it is a movie and movies can be watched beyond the year they were made. A few people commented on how the series won't reach the same audience, most likely not the original audience....but I'm sure there are people that are teens/preteens now that have watched the movie.
