Rumors continue to circulate that Sarah Palin will appear on Saturday Night Live to combat Tina Fey’s gosh darn perfect impression of her. No official confirmation as of yet. The Chicago Sun-Times parlays that in lieu of a rerun this Saturday, Palin may pop up on the first Weekend Update prime time special, airing this Thursday at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBC: “some sort of Palin tweak of Fey’s American Express commercials is [rumored to be] in the works.” We think it would be more appropriate if Palin teamed up with Mark Wahlberg to talk to a moose and then winked it to death in front of a live and horrified studio audience. Meanwhile, Vulture reports that SNL’s Congress-skewering bailout sketch has been yanked from Hulu and NBC.com, possibly igniting a censorship controversy.

In semi-related TV news, the NY Post reports that John McCain may reschedule a much publicized and abruptly canceled appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman for mid-October.

Discuss: Do you think SNL should have Palin on? If so, what should happen?

  • TheAverageDave
she should go on and play William H. Macy's wife in a Fargo sketch, preferably the scene where she runs around helplessly in the snow before knocking herself out.
  • Mike
    She should play TIna Fey.

But really, she should stay far far away from a TV camera
  • Dr.Doc
she seems to be pretty popular right now? what if her & McCainn won?
  • ANGRY BROOMSTICK
I fucking hate her. Fuck Sarah Palin.
  • Nailin' Paylin!
  • MrCavanagh
So her method of counter acting the damage done by her own doings and comedy sketches is to appear on SNL as herself. Not 60 Minutes, Meet the Press, Larry King, Letterman, Leno, or any of the countless legitimate news shows on television? This woman is hopeless.
  • Steelo
    I think they should battle
  • MrCavanagh
    Oh wait, I forgot, she's a maverick.
  • Sonny
Tina Fey's impression of Sarah Paylin is terrible. and i for one find tina to be hilarious but she's just too pushy with impersonating paylin... you could tell shes against republicans but cant blame her though.
  • Ed
I'm pretty sure she'd just get booed quite loudly...and after about the 8th take she'll just give up.

On the other hand, I do want to see the real Mark Walberg talk to some animals.
  • Kevin
SNL shouldn't fall for this crap. McCain/Palin know they are sinking in the polls, so they are trying to come across as one of us, so that Fox news can say "See dat? She's one of us, she got a sense of humor."
Anyway, if they do allow her on, i'll watch.....but with the sound off. ;)
  • CJ Guest
I just set my HD-DVR just in case the rumor pans out.
  • Water
McCain goin back on Letterman? Letterman's gonna give him hell, yknow? Remember what he did to Paris Hilton? I doubt he's gonna go softer on McCain. Deservedly so, too, imo.
  • BeyondtheTech
It's dead obvious that the few appearances of Palin have not been enthusiastically positive. Add the fact that people have seen more of Tina Fey than Sarah Palin, combined with the exaggerated ridicule of her Palin's persona and perspective, has forced Palin to get into the limelight for damage control.

I just don't know for certain that this would be in her best interests, as she needs to get in front of serious cameras more (how about serious interviews and not comedy sketches or TV sitcoms) if she wants to help the McCain campaign and help validate her nomination for vice presidency.

Of course, as an Obama supporter, I would like to see Palin this Saturday on SNL and mess things up for their side even more. It's like throwing a full container of lighter fluid into a campfire.
  • Bob Browne
Wake up America, whether you like her or not do you really think she is qualified to run the country as president if Mc Cain kicks off? Then why vote for them? Look at the Republicans, the war and the nations debt then vote for Mc Cain, enough is enough, and this political circus isn't funny any more. Instead of bringing out all the good point a person should vote for me all they do is knock the other person, good example for out children. Politicians
are like colds I hope they all go away one day.
  • Mikey M
Sarah needs to go back to gosh darm home in Alaska and quit spreading her joy around these parts.
  • Tom
Palin is a disgrace. The McCain campaign probably thinks an SNL appearance would counteract the damage the Saturday Night Lampooning she's been hit with in recent weeks, but I suspect the SNL cast and audience would make her regret ever entering the lion's den.

If she does appear, I'd like to see a Palin vs. Fey-Palin debate.
  • aj
I'm sick of seeing her to be honest, I think its pathetic that she has to resort to doing an SNL skit to gain some likability.
  • Ry
I love how it is popular to hate on Republicans and Palin. I like /Film because it stays apolitical but it seems that has spilled over now.
  • Ry
Oh, Bob Browne, this country has gone bad to worse thanks to a do nothing Liberal controlled congress. Wake up and stop blaming the other party. Both parties are equal to blame and neither is perfect.
  • JSUN
Oh Ry, please turn off Fox and get some info into that noggin of yours. The Dems don't have any control over congress. They have a one person lead, and that person is Joe LIEberman, the Benedict Arnold of the Dem party. The Dems would need a 60+ majority to overturn the filibustering of the Republicans and the vetoes of that knuckle dragger, W. The mess this country this is in is mostly the fault of the GOP and their B.S. war in Iraq.

It's an old talking point, and the only ones who fall for it are the ones who look to "fair and balanced" Fox for their daily propaganda dose. I say, "Good Day, Sir!"

PS. Slashfilm is the best, keep it up guys and gals.
  • Quenfis
Sonny, go watch the "30 second Palin" on youtube and tell me that Tina Fey didn't nail that impression of Palin on the debate.

This is definitely one of those "we are one of you guys" type spins that McCain/Palin are trying to go for. I love SNL and watch religiously, even when the cast sucks. But, having Palin on there won't sway my vote. So I can care less.
  • ben
she looks like a school teacher stripper.
  • ben
sonny your an idiot, tina impersoniation is dead on.
  • Tom
Ry, hating on Palin isn't some arbitrary fad. The woman is woefully unprepared for the vice-presidency, and even more unqualified for the presidency she'd be on deck for. She should never have accepted the nomination, but she did and -- according to her -- without any hesitation.
  • Pete (original)
whether you agree with her or not (hate's pretty strong), there's no denying she's the most popular person in america right now.
  • Ry
Tom, hating on Palin is a fad. Obama's credentials are just as woefully troublesome. You are voting on a president, not a vice president. Obama, who is the man running for the presidency is the man we should be questioning their qualifications for.
  • JR
To actually stay on-topic, unlike 90% of the comments above...

To me, a great skit would involve Fey (as Palin) being pulled over or having some kind of encounter with the cop from Fargo, played by Palin.
  • Roberto
I just can't believe people actually still watch SNL.
  • If she wins.... We all are DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't imagine her talking to one of the foreign leaders.
She'll probably say the wrong thing to them and then give a shout out to all the hockey moms. I like hockey, but what does it have to do with being a president????
  • Tom
Ry, I'm actually not voting at all (Canadian), but you have to consider the very real possibility that 72-year-old, cancer-risk McCain will die in office, leaving Palin in charge.

Palin has a journalism degree from a second-rate college. Obama is a graduate of Harvard Law. Palin was mayor of a town of 5,500, is governor of a state with 700,000 people. Obama taught constitutional law for a decade, and has spent three successful years in the senate, sponsoring dozens of important pieces of legislation on topics like foreign policy, energy, healthcare, etc. But hey, at Palin did place second in the Miss Alaska pageant in '84.

Back to SNL: I'm just glad they're experiencing a revival in relevance, even if it'll only last until Nov.
  • bob
not to get into a political debate heres what i think about the rumor

why should sarah palin go on snl? there is no reason at all and even if the writers think of a funny skit for her to be in, the writers themselves will screw it up
  • jimbo stewart
I hope she wins just so all the whiny Hollywood Liberals will finally make good on their promise to leave the country.
  • Roberto
If she did agree to be on the show, the results would no doubt be safe, sanitized, and 100% campaign pre-approved. In other words, pointless. SNL is so corporate and mainstream now it is just boring.
  • volvo
darn tootin jimbo, all dem cotton pickin liberals whining is making it hard to hear all the conservatives whining bout the liberals.
  • The_Jezzus
LOL at republicans sticking up for this woman. It really is pathetic.

The GOP has taken a nose dive into political hell. From Ronald Reagan to Sarah Palin. HILARIOUS!

The Mark skit is hilarious. I was hoping he would drop a few lines from the Happening in that animals skit.
  • omg..... cat fight!.. fap fap fapcat fight!.. fap fap fap.cat fight!.. fap fap fap.cat fight!.. fap fap fap.cat fight!.. fap fap fap.cat fight!.. fap fap fap.cat fight!.. fap fap fap.cat fight!.. fap fap fap.
  • Philsauce
sounds like the last dying breath of the McCain/Palin campaign to try and get more votes
  • They took off that sketch because people complained? That's complete garbage. This sounds like NBC caved and not SNL. They don't care about offending people.
  • Kokushi
Palin = HOT, im sure if you had a chance to do her for 1 night, you would.
  • ezekial
Whatever she's gonna do, it HAS to involve with Tina Fey. If not, it just won't work :P
  • First she must go on Meet the Press and then she can do whatever she wants. These are serious times and this women is a complete joke! A truly divisive human being!
  • south texas terror
The last two episodes of SNL have been horrible (anna faris and anne hathaway). The only thing worth watchin is walhberg talk to animals and Fey-Palin. For all you playin the Sarah Palin drinking game, Maverick (gulp).
  • Sarahndipity
Does anyone really want to see Palin "scripted" again?

Hell...I want to see another "serious" unscripted VP debate...this time with the real Biden and Fey's Palin...

Who wouldn't pay for that? Lets face it, Fey's Palin is more the "real Sarah" than the real Sarah playing "Maverique" with script after script for us to witness in horror.
  • Sarahndipity
Did someone above say Obama is just as inexperienced as Palin...apparantly they did not see the Canadian comment under it...quite a difference...but some people
DONT WANT THEIR OPINIONS BOTHERED BY GLARING FACTS
  • TheDaftPunk
I love Sarah Palin. God bless her. I can't wait to see this; any time she's on camera I have to tune in.
  • Troy
    Someone shoot her please!!!
  • I enjoy watching people clawing at their own faces over Sarah Palin. Keep up the good work!
  • Vala Jackson
It is enjoyable to watch Tina Fey's (Palin) skits and I've been a fan of hers since long before this race. I do, however, hope that people realize this is satirical humor, which means by definition that it is a distortion and not the truth. I get chills when I hear people saying that "Palin answered those questions exactly like Tina Fey's impersonation"; this simply is not true. When are we going to get past our fascination with celebrities in this country, and simply look at the facts and examine the issues we are facing today? Gov. Palin offers knowledge and solutions to our debilitating energy crisis, for example. Incidentally, if it had been Sarah Silverman, she'd have done just as good of a job. Please--it's only theater, people!
  • [R3D]
Wow i like McCain, and im not a big fan of Palin becasue of her believes, but some of you guy's negative comments are disgusting. If only there was a worthy 3rd party. I hope Sarah can be funny maybe ill like her a lil more :P
