When we spoke to director Danny Boyle last month in Toronto, he seemed optimistic about the possibility of another sequel to 28 Days Later. But at the same time I got the feeling that not much had progressed since I last talked to him during the press tour for Sunshine. It was last year in San Francisco when Boyle revealed to /Film that he had an idea for 28 Months Later, and that it would be set in Russia.

Arrow in the Head is reporting a rumor coming out of the Sitges Film Festival, that Paul Andrew Williams, the UK-based director of The Cottage, has signed on to helm the third film. Unfortunately, this has not yet been confirmed. I’m not really sure how I feel about a third film without Boyle at the helm. I was one of the vocal few who hated 28 Weeks Later, but I’m sure the idea of global zombie films will always sound appealing to me, at least in the conceptual phase.

Discuss: Are you excited about a 28 Months Later or has the second zombie film boom run its course?

  • I absolutely love the first like 10 minutes of 28 WEEKS LATER with the family in the house and everyone bursting. However, the rest of the movie was lackluster and kind of bad so I'm not interested in seeing another film.

I'm a big fan of zombie flicks. Am I excited about another 28 movie? Not really.

Well, not unless it stars Jackie Chan and Chuck Norris.

The last few minuter of 28 weeks later, was so awesome i really would like to see a third movie beginning from the end of the second movie

I loved 28 weeks later. I'm all for a new one.

Im excited, but I don't know about this director. We'll see.

I love zombie flicks, you either go down the zomcom route, e.g shuan of the dead, fido, OR you go for all out brain munching, e.g. the dead series. However, 28 weeks later just wasn't firing on all 4 cylinders. It could of been pushed and been so much more, the story had so much more to it, but it didn't explore it enough. I felt the killing of the hero (special op's dude) was more for effect than for the story. It wasn't inline with your normal zombie film, he should of died fighting off a load of zombie's, kind of like Black Hawk down when the delta troops are shooting at the militants after the Black Hawk crashes.

I do like the 28 series, it's different, and maybe fresh blood at the helm is what it needs. I just hope a stronger script is put forward, and most of all, there's lots of munchin and nibblin.

I wouldn't mind sitting through another 28 movie. The second one wasn't as up to par as the first on the social commentary, but it was overall a decent flick.
  • It´s with Zombies like it is with mad Scienctists. There is always room for one more in the World.

I am looking forward to this movie.

I actually liked 28 Weeks Later more than 28 Days Later. It made so many things right that i think this one might fail.

I enjoyed 28 Weeks Later, but never saw finished 28 Days because the beginning pissed me off and I never went back. I would probably see this third installment but I dunno about the director, I suppose only time will tell.

  • Well Days had a deeper story while Weeks was more conventionally action oriented. The problem I had with Weeks was I couldn't relate to the kids so when the commando guy bit the dust I wasn't as attached. Of course I'd be interested in a more global film although it's going to have to compete with the adaptation for 'World War Z.'

Peter, do you like any movies at all?
  • SpaceGandhi
I enjoyed both "28 [insert time period]" movies quite a bit, and far more than Zack Snyder's DotD remake. I'll agree that "Weeks" had some pretty cringe worthy moments where it felt like they were just trying to hard, and I am a bit nervous about no Boyle, but I would certainly go see another film in the series.

I'd like to see another 28 _____ Later, but wouldn't months be a difficult time frame to pull off? The second one already showed that without food the zombies die out after a tiny handful of months. Ah well, I'll probably go see it anyways.
  • I'm on board for another 28 movie. However, the zombie plots are wearing thin, so it better be a pretty amazing plot and something we've never seen before.
  • No more needless horror sequels. Please.
  • Jamie
It should be called 28 Movies Later.

i very excited! i love zombie movies and 28 weeks later was better than 28 days later so. so i am excited for the next one!
  • I'm one of the few, few, very few, very, very few, veeeeeeerrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy few who actually liked 28 Weeks Later, yeah it had its problems, its not as dramatic or silent as the first one, it seems like they abandoned all that for action and gore, but the story was good they just didn't develop it further. I didn't like how they made it into a mainstream movie, but the idea of where the story could go in a third movie looks interesting, so I say go for it, but I'll have problems if they make a 28 Years Later.

the beautiful thing about 28 days later was the expose of what humans do in the collapse of society and the utter terror of an epidemic destroying us. it was not a franchise or something that could be something marketable in terms of sequels. 28 weeks later was unnecessary and so is the idea of this. How will it end? Will the cure of the rage virus come about? Or will it be another half ass "oh no! more infected"

If you want to market the post apocalyptic genre, try something challenging and just write an original piece.

*edit* didn't mean for two somethings

I won't lie I've seen both and I'll probably see the third if it actually does get made. I'm a sucker for zombie flicks :)
  • This series can continued...
  • I wanna see it! 28 days was awesome/28 weeks was awesome..im down for 28 months! The opening to 28 weeks is one of the best openings in a long time
  • kizzle
I thought 28 Weeks Later was better than the first. I would be interested in seeing another one.
  • Olive hill
I Believe an easier title for the mathematically challenged would be "2 years and a bit later " I'm excited for " Four Score and seven years later".

Abe Lincoln Zombie leader of America!
  • sean coates
first off iam pretty sure peter is over thinking this movie like always. The first 10 mins were amazing. I cant wait for the new one the whole feel of the 28 series is great. These movies have a great feel the score was amazing in 28 weeks later, the violence was perfect, the acting was amazing the emotion that surged threw the film was great. I hope the new one will keep the grity feel and violent nature of the last two.

I am siked to see another one. I absolutely love zombie movies, well maybe not all of them, the Diary nonsense was horrible but I love most of them.

At the person above that said what would happen in this movie because we already saw what happens when the zombies run out of food. Its simple, global zombies, that can make zombies last really really long. Hell I know it is out there but 28 years later aint that bad of an idea, the aftermath and the clean up of an entire world that had to deal with a World War of zombies. On the order of Wolrd War Z.

Like I said I love zombie movies, they absolutely rock.... Anthony
  • TajesMahoney
Really? You think 28 Weeks Later was BETTER? 28 Days Later is one of the best zombie films ever made. It has action, character development, and an emotional depth on a level I didn't think possible in a zombie film.

28 Weeks Later was a pale imitation of Boyle's original work. Agreed, the first ten minutes captured the glory of the first film. The rest descended into a mish-mash with two unliakbale children, no real story, and a laundry list of cliche zombie mistakes.
  • tehcrayz
I liked 28 days later a lot and they didn't have as much action because it was a lower budget film. 28 weeks later gave a pretty good story line and i liked how they showed what happened but some of the scenes were frankly disappointing. 28 days is better than 28 weeks later but 28 weeks later overall is better than 90% of zombie-like movies. I'd definitely see a third one.
  • glitch
Plot for 28 months later,,,,, kid becomes leader of rage mobs leads army against ground forces on suprise attacks lame i know but who knows ????????? possibly a cure for the whole thing comes from the kid and so ends the storyline lotsa property for sale in europa
  • Tenna
28 Days/Weeks are my absolute favourite movies. Im unsure about the change in directors...Boyle really kept the visionary direction the same in both Days and Weeks. The new director could..i unno...change it. I would prefer for Boyle to stay. Cause, if it sucks, Im totally blaming the new director.
    Lol.
