Fox has given the new JJ Abrams show Fringe a full order of 22-episodes, which is no surprise considering the ratings. This is the first new series on the big four networks to get a full season commitment. I haven’t had a chance to watch the show since getting back from my 28 day trip, but the pilot episode was just a little bt underwelming. I plan on sticking with it to mid-season, and see if the story really picks up steam.

The new Steven Speilberg-produced Diablo Cody-scripted Showtime series United States of Tara will premiere at 10pm on January 18th 2009. The series will follow the final season premiere of the L Word, and lead into the second season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl. The series stars Toni Collette as a mother with multiple personality disorder. The comedy comes with how the different family members and friends deal with her different personalities. I’ve read the script for the pilot episode, which was strong. It will all hinge on how convincing Collette is as the various different personalities.

  • This past week with Scary Bald Guy was the first FRINGE that held my interest from start to finish. Keeping my fingers crossed it'll continue to improve but if not I'll throw it on the trash heap.

I liked the Fringe pilot. Unfortunately I haven't watched since due to being busy. A full season pick up is encouraging as Fox usually cancels shows like this after 2-3 eps (Drive, The Inside, etc.)

    Fringe is horrible.

What's the renewal status on Sarah Connor Cronicles or Prison Break?

Fringe imporves every week. The pilot had a lot to do in order to set up the focus of the 1st season which made it a bit laborious, but its really starting to hum along nicely.

Personally, I like Fringe. I posit that it will be renewed for another season.

For a series like Fringe or any genre show for that matter, it takes a while to hit it's stride. I was reading message boards where people were checking out after 2 episodes. Their Loss.
Great show. Glad it got picked up for a full season. Now if Pushing Daisies has the same luck....
And someone compared this to Knight Rider. KR is not even in the same league as this.
Support the show or we will get more Reality programming.

    Long Live Diablo Cody!!!

I agree the pilot was underwhelming but I've found the show's really picked up. I dont know if anyone saw last tuesday's episode but it had the coolest ray gun. Wow that sounded dumb.

I'm not all that impressed with Fringe I think it's a little boring with no real captivating stories. I haven't watched this week's episode yet, but I've decided to give it till mid-season to win me over otherwise it's off my schedule.

I wish I had Showtime, so I'll have to wait till DVD or find the episodes online. I'm huge fan Toni Collette; I have no doubt she can pull off multiple personalities, she's a fantastic actress.

The worst thing about Fringe is the acting.Brrrrr. Oh, and the dialoge is so wooden and full of cliches. Other than that it's The X Files with an old man attached to Mulder and Scully.
  • Fringe: it's like JJ and Joss teamed up to make a poorly-acted but plucky team drool their dumb all over Mulder and Scully.

Lets bring back Arrested Development instead, huh?

I found Fringe sub-par. Not appalling (like the new Knight Rider - which is truly a televisual abortion if ever there were one) but just underwhelmingly sub-par. The characters are deeply meh, with simply blahhh storylines - it's only good for reminding me how very, very good the X-Files really were (I apologise for underappreciating you every now and then Chris Carter). Toni Collete? Again? Hasn't this woman retired yet? I fear having to see her unusually ugly face on anything at all much less a television screen. And in relation to Diablo... last time I mentioned her was when she threw her rant - hadn't seen Juno then and thought it was all just funny. I've seen Juno now... WTF!!!!! That is what people consider to be well written in 07/08 - c'mon!!!! It was a frikkin mess, characters were dull, pathetic, unrealistic and it had the worst music I've ever heard in any film in all of my life (wtf was it with the pathetic off-kilter supposedly hip 90's and 70's rock references which all seemed out of place). Lordy! I apologise to Juno haters, I was one of the people who said, "give the girl a break" - I take it back, beat on Cody all you want.... no, seriously, beat on her....

Is Diablo Cody gonna throw another tantrum if I say her new show sounds lame?

I had a chance to catch up to all four episodes of Fringe today on my day off, and I have to say that it's a superb show. I love JJ Abram's work, and if you're a fan of LOST, or even a fan of the now classic X-Files series, I think you'd enjoy Fringe. Good to hear that FOX gave it the green light for a full season.
