First Look: Mia Wasikowska as Tim Burton’s Alice

INF has the first good set photos from the Cornawall England set of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Young Australian actress Mia Wasikowska plays the lead role of Alice. I’m going to take a wild guess and say that this scene takes place early in the film before Alice is transported to Wonderland. I can’t say for sure, but it doesn’t appear like the Panavision camera in the shot below is set up for 3D, which is really odd since the film will be released in Digital Disney 3D. May-be Burton is taking a que from The Wizard of Oz, and won’t begin the 3D effect until Alice gets to Wonderland? Or maybe I’m just missing something. Does anyone see a second lens?

I also read somewhere that Burton was telling people on set that Johnny Depp’s The Madd Hatter will be completely performance-capture/computer animated. Check out more photos on INF.

It's possible that when Alice goes off to Wonderland, it'll be CGI.

However, I REALLY REALLY want Burton and his team to 'stylize' the characters in Wonderland to their taste, not 'Beowulf'. Make Mad Hatter surreal. Give him a huge head or something.

My point being is if the CGI characters are 'too' real, then why not just film them with live action actors? Right, right?
  • I think it's safe to say that Wonderland will be as twisted as Tim Burtons noggin.

this mia girl is a shit actress

helicopters...are you serious? Or has fanboys sunk down to a whole new level?

"I think it’s safe to say that Wonderland will be as twisted as Tim Burtons noggin."

Is this not a film version of the game Alice?
Or is this just another bomb like his remake: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

It didn't come as any surprise whatsoever that Johnny Depp would be in the film...everybody knows he's Burton's bitch actor.

i swear, Burton has given up on making his own original movies, like Edward Scissorhands.

I've just got suspicions this is going to be a horrible movie, much in the same way Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was.

I just hope we don't have to put up with more singing..is there singing in this one?
  • James
    It's "Cornwall" and "Mad Hatter".

    Just sayin'.
  • Damon
Wow can someone overanalyze one picture enough?

It's going to be crap just like all the films he did since Planet of the Apes and Big Fish. Sleepy Hollow was the last good one and yet it was quite empty of content already, just stylish with a good cast.
    Tim Burton's carrer R.I.P (1985-1999)

    que?

I think it would be best if Burton filmed 'Alice in Wonderland',in the same fashion 'The Truman Show' and Being John Malkovich' was shot, eyes thru a lens, looking at the world. What sort of lens would be needed ? anybody please.

Anyone ever see that live-action version of Alice in Wonderland with Martin Short as the Mad Hatter? Didn't really like the movie, but the way they made his head bigger was perfect. I'm having my doubts about a CGI version of this iconic character; why not just digitally manipulate him (eg. bigger head, nose, etc.)?

IT'A A FUCKING DISNEY FLICK. My interest just went from a 4/10 to a 0/10.

wherer did all this fanboy Burton backlash come from?
  • helicopters
I'm not a fanboy of anything. She's just a terrible actress.

The film will go entirely CGI when Alice goes down the rabbit hole. There was a big stink in the UK because the FX were due to be done here by the same team that did Sweeny Todd and Charlie, but the studio wanted CG and so that's what's happening. Apparently Burton is pissed, but more because it means production has moved back to the US and he wanted to do it here.

Hmm? She was easily the best thing about HBO's "In Treatment". Completely believable in a VERY difficult role.

Bah, Tim Burton should be doing American McGee's Alice.
  • Ruby
Why must Disney choose all the best literature to put their grimy, oily hands all over, again and again? They need to leave Alice alone. They simply have never been competent to deal well with anything other than fluff, frankly. They should stick to what they do best. Beauty and the Beast comes closest to success when Disney decides to underscore entertainment with a little pathos, but they just never manage to do justice to the really great books. Think how much over the years they've appropriated and slaughtered: The Sword in the Stone, The Jungle Books, The Black Cauldron, The Back to Oz fiasco, etc. - Not well done, not even coherent in some cases. They need to go back to "The Love Bug" and stop tracking mud all over stuff they aren't willing to develop the sensitivity to handle. And - Oh, Yes: Tim Burton SHOULD be doing American McGee's Alice. Didn't Disney buy the rights to that?

This sounds amazing. I love Tim Burton. SO MUCH.

camera is James Camerons new tech - it shoots 3d and 2d at same time, hence no need for "second lens"
