W. Movie Trailer

Lionsgate has released a final trailer for Oliver Stone’s W, which is basically an extended version of the recent tv spots. I think this is a vast improvement over the teaser trailer, because you get a much better understanding of the comedic/dramtic tone of the film. The juxtaposition of the war images with Bush’s stupidity is pure Stone. I also love how they call George Bush Sr. “Poppy”. Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Official Plot Synopsis:
Whether you love him or hate him, there is no question that George W. Bush is one of the most controversial public figures in recent memory. In an unprecedented undertaking, acclaimed director Oliver Stone is bringing the life of our 43rd President to the big screen as only he can. W takes viewers through Bush’s eventful life — his struggles and triumphs, how he found both his wife and his faith, and of course the critical days leading up to Bush’s decision to invade Iraq.

Cast: Josh Brolin, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn, Elizabeth Banks, Toby Jones, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Scott Glenn, Ioan Gruffud, Richard Dreyfuss, Jesse Bradford

W. hits theaters on October 17th 2008.

  • Sean
looks like a comedy to me
  • OMG It's Russell Crowe
Looks like it will be pretty entertaining, You gotta love the dramatic pretzel choking scene. I'm just curious what they are going to focus on. Are his president years going to look mainly at the Iraq War specifically or what? I'm wondering how the main storyline (conflict/resolution) is going to be handled.
  • No matter how the movie turns out it, looks like Brolin did one hell of a job.
  • Jake Nelson
Looks fantastic. Brolin looks and sounds absolutely incredible as Bush.
I think this movie will be a good one...
  • Brian
this movie looks absolutely ridiculous, I cannot wait
  • Nick
I loved the pretzel part. I can't wait to see this.
  • Arturo
The trailer looked so good, I remember everyone in the theater was so shocked after George Sr. Says "...you're a Bush!". I had previously seen it already, yet it was still great.
  • andrew
wheres the trailer that ran in front of burn after reading?

with the bush running at the start?
  • orange cinema
i agree w tommy tricker, regardless of the film - holy shit brolin disappeared into W.
  • Adam B.
I'm with everyone else, looks like a hit.
I imagine there will be some backlash in the media though (if there hasn't been already).
    definitely looking forward to this.

Holy heck! Now this is what I'm talking about! This trailer is a vast improvement over the teaser. You can really get a sense of the absurdity and dark humor running through it. W screaming at the end of the trailer just puts the whole insane and over the top icing on it.

To me now, this film looks 10 times as interesting as it did in the teaser. It has much more punch now, much more of a stance and an interesting flavor to it. Before I was wondering if the film was just going to be a bland series of events related to Bush, but now it looks like it has an edge.
  • Rory
    That looks really good.
  • Chris
    I like it, looks good.
  • I have to admit that i am in the camp of those not real fired up for a movie about W. BUT after seeing this trailer, I am pretty excited about checking it out. Gotta agree with those who say Brolin looks to have done a fine job. And I absolutely love the use of Talking Heads in this trailer, an excellent set of lyrics played over the contrasting tones of the trailer. Click My Name!

Never mind Tropic Thunder, this is going to be THE funniest film of the year. Whether you're a liberal or a conservative, no one can deny the past eight years have been like some crazy, satirical cartoon version of reality and this movie looks like it has encapsulated all of that insanity, the best way possible.
  • igroveman
Looks like really glossy partisan slander to me. I was disgusted by the trailer, it was so chock full of Michael Moore-isms I wanted to puke.

Thank God over the last eight years we've had a President who sticks to his guns and acts with conviction and doesn't make decisions based on what the polls say.

I'd love to see a movie about Clinton, who never met with the director of the CIA once throughout his terms, made important national and international decisions based on media polls, and ignored terrorism for eight years while getting blow jobs in the White House... there's the real war criminal.
  • Superman
    Bill O Reilly?
  • Belgium
    Troll O Reilly?
  • Steelo
    that's pretty nice.
  • 8 years in the making...
  • ANGRY BROOMSTICK
I am SOOOOO gonna see this.
  • ANGRY BROOMSTICK
igroveman, are you being paid by the Bush administration to sing praises about the worst president in american history? go kill yourself.
  • This looks great. But I agree that a Clinton blowjob movie would be pretty amazing. Seriously....he's the only President to have sexual escapades in the Oval Office!

Maybe it could be a porno:

@ igroveman "and ignored terrorism for eight years while getting blow jobs in the White House… there’s the real war crimina" Last time I checked we got attacked by terrorists under Bush's watch.
  • John R
wow. Will Ferrel better step aside.
  • Not what I was hoping for...

By the way, I was hoping for, well, an actual story about his life/presidency, not a flat-out comedy.

    *sigh*
  • Henry Jones Jr
@erik, those attacks were planned during Clinton's term as he stood by and ignored the growing threat and allowed previous attacks to occur without response. That 9/11 happened during Bush's presidency was coincidence. Agree with him or not, you can't deny that he responded to the threat which is more than Clinton ever did.
  • J
    Will he go full retard?
  • volvo
clinton = bush = corporate/mafia whores. the clinton administration drew up the plans to invade iraq. the bush administration implemented those plans.
  • kfizz
seems to corny. Like a cartoon or thats my bush or little bush.
  • Captain Awesome
I just can't take Oliver Stone's political films seriously. Especially after JFK. This W film looks like an expensive Mad Magazine comedy skit.

The best thing he did was Natural Born Killers. And that was mainly due to Tarantino.
  • Kevin
Based on a true story lol
  • Lee
Anyone know who the song playing in the background is?
  • Roberto
Talking Heads, "Same as it ever was". May be the wrong title. But definitely the Talking Heads.
  • Roberto
    @Henry Jones

    "ignored the growing threat"

You mean the growing threat mentioned in the memo given to Rice that said Bin Laden plans to strike inside the U.S.? The same threat the Clinton transition team told the Bush team was threat #1 to watch? I got no love for Clinton, but you sound like an ignorant dittohead robot trying to pin 9/11 on him. They both may have failed, but the fact remains, it was Bush's watch.

I know this'll prolly get deleted like fast, but was searching around and found that some advertising firm that does promo material for W. (plus a few other lionsgate movies like The Family that Preys, Disaster Movie, Religulous and so on) are seemingly not so good with the internetZ and left their directory open and viewable to the public.

cut npaste, close the spaces in the url and have fun.

    @ igroveman:

    Oh poor you.
  • Duval
the choking scene gets me every time.
  • Wall•E Plays Pong
I still can't get over W screaming at the top of his lungs at the end as all the chaos unfolds. Man that's a great trailer!
  • AlexT2
Really look forward to checking W. out in a few weeks. I think Brolin is gonna do a great job as Dubbya!!!
  • Fir3Wolf
This does look good and while not a very big fan of Stone this movie does look good and funny.
  • 790
You know if this film was about some shithead son of a nazi in another country I would totally be there, but I can't endorse a film like this when its about the country I live in...
To sit there and laugh as this shit is really going on, I just can't stomach it.
As bad as this film makes him look, he's 10000 times worse, same with the evil shits that surround him....

    May future generations forgive us.
  • krackajap
so will this be like...a live action version of little bush?
  • NOBAMA 08
That asshole oliver stone just likes to rewrite history. Too bad he didn't come back from vietnam in a casket.
