Since the crack crap reporting team at Entertainment Tonight wasn’t able to get any new details after spending a whole day on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, I thought I’d pass along the news which was revealed at the Hasbro Licensing Summit in Malaysia this week.

The Chevy Corvette Centennial concept car (seen in the photo above) is actually the alt mode for Sideswipe. Described as a brave but often rash warrior, Sideswipe was part of the initial crew of Autobots. In the original animated series, Sideswipe and his twin brother Sunstreaker, took the form of Lamborghini sports cars. He later took the form of a 1997 Lamborghini Diablo, 1999 Dodge Viper, and the Cobra Stinger.

Ravage will appear in the film with “very raw beast mode”. Ravage was featured in both the original animated series and Beast Wars, and took the form of a robotic jaguar. He was featured in an original draft of Bay’s Tranformers, but later replaced with Scorponok.

Megatron’s alt mode is confirmed to be a tank. Looks like the leaked concept photos are legit.

And the Devastator rumors might also be confirmed with the news that a super-sized transformer that combines multiple toys will retail for $50+. In the original series, six constructicons combine to transform into the huge giant robot known as Devastator.

is their a scene of them filling up at BM ;)

Im actually more excited to hear about Ravage. I am technically a Beast Wars kid, and Ravage was one of my favorite autobots. I don't wanna be putting out any crazy ideas but a “very raw beast mode” just gets my mind racing.

Its gonna be interesting to see how well there able to pull of Devastor. Even more, im just wondering how they're going to introduce all these new people. It seems like every time something gets leaked, its more robots.

I will be kind and say I really did not like the first Transformers Movie.

However, I am willing to have an open mind about the second.

As a personal request to the director from many of the old school Transformers fans: PLEASE make this movie about the Transformers. THEY are the story, NOT the coming-of-age side-kick punk kid or his butt kicking girlfriend, nor the comically incompetent government agents.

The movie is called the TRANSFORMERS. Please keep that in mind this time.

    Thank you.
  • I wasn't a beastwars fan, but in the original wasn't ravage a decepticon? Also, if we have ravage does that mean we are going to get Soundwave? I hope there is less human story and more Transformers plot lines as well. I'm hoping this one will be more Empire Strikes Back, too.
  • dellamorte1972
Soundwave is my favorite from the 80's cartoon show, they NEED Soundwave. plus do you think thet'll add HotRod from the transformers movie? i hope they dont he kinda sucked.
  • John R
    GM advertisement. PASS.
  • I wonder how many shots from his previous movies Michael Bay will re-use. I'm sure 75% of the soundtrack will be from The Rock also.
  • South Texas Terror
    That corvette concept looks amazing.

It seems there are going to be A LOT of Transformers in the sequel, which is good, but it leaves me wondering how they're handling character development. Face it, they have to use a human perspective (for a Hollywood movie), not the Transformers; but I hope we get to see an equal division of the two. The only complaint I had about the first one is that they didn't show enough of the Transformers' (decepticon and autobot) personality's, facial close ups, and fight scenes - specifically Jazz. They didn't show his face before the fight, or during the fight (only autobot to not do so [looks especially cool in battle mode]) and in the fight he pretty much just got tossed around by Megatron. Hope he comes back =]

Just to let you guys know, Soundwave was confirmed a long while back. Robert Orci does a Q&A on TF2 quite often at the transformers fansite TFW2005.com and it was confirmed early on soundwave is in fact going to appear in TF2. He also has given quite a few other tidbits over there so check it out if you're at all interested in TF2.
  • Great News! Can not wait till it's finally on the big screen...see you at the movies.

How can u not like this movie? Theres great action, funny lines, and most importantly, MEGAN FOX! How can you not enjoy sitting for a few hours staring at the best looking person in Hollywood?
  • Great work! Keep out-hustling the old guys to get the real scoop. Can't wait for the next Transformers movie.
  • badoober
nerds rule! so stoked for this movie. that big megatron tank looks badass

*YAWN* Oh gods, this just to exciting. I think I'll go watch some paint drying. At least that has a better story and more plot than the last trash-formers fiasco did.
Why don't you guys stop being a publicity service for all these pictures, and start asking real questions. These are what passes for real movies these days. They expect us to lay out real money to see them. Why not start treating the films and the film-makers like real people? Dare to ask them about plot, conflict and all the other things that make up a real, good story? Part of your job ought to be to tell us if this film is a turkey in the making before we pay for some studio's big mistake.

I should start by saying I liked the Transformers movie, because I instantly recognized the wisdom in making the story the way they did. T1 was sort of a litmus test for the audience to see if the robots could be made believable, and look real. Obviously the intent was to start a franchise movie base, and I expect T2 to have less coming of age teen angst crap in it, and more of the titular characters.

Of course, given Michael Bay as the director, a lot of the action shots were too jumpy to see what exactly is going on, but meh, I can live with that.

The magic of the original cartoon was that the characters seemed human, who didn't want to BE a transforming robot as a kid, especially a transforming dinosaur robot!? Grimlock FTW! The few human characters were there as the link for the audience, most US audiences are not used to the high levels of mecha present in such media as japanese anime/manga, and need a human element to connect.

So in essence, T1 was the test, and as they crank out the next couple of movies, the logical thing to do is to shift the focus to the robot action, with the occasional human interest bit to keep the audiences connected via empathy with the main characters. One of the major problems I felt in T1 was the death of Jazz, one of the core recognizable autobots was reduced to a typecast token black guy who gets killed easily by the big bad evil guy. Its pathetic that multi-million dollar movies and directors still resort to such time worn cliches, but Bay has never been Oscar material.

To answer some questions asked here: Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were twin brothers. Ravage was a Decepticon in the original series, and was both a Predacon and Decepticon in Beast Wars.

The whole point of this movie was to produce an easily-expandable franchise, while, at the same time, not alienating too many die-hard fans. All in all, I think it was a success, but I definitely hold 2 to higher standards, and from everything I've read around the web, in print, interviews with Bay and/or the cast, I think I'll be satisfied, and so will more of you.

Something I have to bring up about Jazz, though:

Don't be quick to assume Jazz's dismissal was simply a cop-out stereotypical token death... there's a reason it went down, I believe, and it lies in the fact that Bay never wanted to use a Solstice for any alts. It was too small, and Bay felt it was forced on him by GM and the studio. As much as I hated seeing Jazz go down the way he did, I think it was Bay's way of snubbing his nose at GM for throwing their weight around, and that, in itself, makes me smile.
I've heard rumor that Bay has also taken an interest in the fan-love for Grimlock, and is pondering (although cynically,) the possibility and feasibility of having a dinobot in this one...

But if you'll remember, he also said he was miffed by how many leaks got out during Transformers' original production, and was purposely planning to put out misinformation. And at least he's not going to bring back Wheelie.

    The first movie was horrible.
Unbelievably stupid humans who have too much screen time and a pointless gremlin like Decepticon. The fight scenes between the robots were too short and so many scenes didn't make sense.

First scene, the helicopter wipes out an entire military base yet at the end of the movie it can't seem to kill 5 military soldiers ducking in a diner? Why even attack them from the ground when you can fly and just shoot with a minigun?

Why did Megatron ask that annoying kid to hand over the cube on the roof? Your a 50 ft Robot with missiles and guns and your going to ask a 6 ft human anything. Just shoot him and take it!

Why were there people still in the streets while Giant Robots are battling in broad daylight? Every scene theres still around 15 people in the area. Are you kidding me?

Why when the cube animates anything electrical, its automatically evil (Mountain Dew Machine, X-Box 360,Cell Phone, Steering wheel)?

What happened to Barricade? After the fight that we didn't get to see with Bumblebee because we were forced to see a robotic gremlin harass 2 annoying kids, Barricade disappeared from the film. He's shown at the end when all the Decepticons are en route to the cube but during the final fight scene hes a no show.

What was that nonsense with the parents during the credits when they were denying that there were aliens? Hundreds of people saw giant fighting robots. Theres a killer Mountain Dew machine causing chaos somewhere right now!!!

The fight scenes were claustrophobic, and they all suffered from what has come to be known as "MTV Direction". Fast cuts with the camera slamming from place to place until the viewer has a bad case of visual whiplash. I had to slow-frame thru all of the battle scenes to make any sense of who was fighting whom (Not that I cared at that point, because I found all the characters so shallow and poorly written that I could not identify with any of them, or their problems, emotionally speaking.)
This train wreck of a film has two basic flaws.
The first is the most deadly. Over-familiarity. Those producing the film were "in love" with it as kids. Not all of us were or are. So the exposition and the involvement for those who never saw (or never liked or watched) the cartoon and movie is lacking . Their assumption is that "everyone knows" these characters and the basic story. WRONG!
Bay let his ego and all the compu-generated garbage get in the way of one of the basic building blocks of building a film story.

The other basic flaw is equally devastating. Bay might be considered a good director. But he couldn't write his way out of a wet script box made of pink pages. Again, his ego gets in the way, and rather than hire good scribes, and then play to his strength and direct a good story, Bay has let his ego run wild over his objectivity. And What results from that you see all to clearly in "trash-formers"

    Yeah, yeah, I know..
blahblahblah merchandising blahblah. It's only a movie blahblahblah Hasbro million bucks blahblahblah.. Save it kiddies, your blathering impresses me about as much as the movie did. (Yeah, and I thought the 80's animated one was awful too And I was working at the studio that made it at the time), so take a seat and keep quiet until you learn something about how movies get made.

By comparison, the animated one was better, which is like saying that measles are better than whooping cough. (Not that anyone young enough to like this new junk is going to know what whooping cough is anyway.) Oh well.

    Now.

FYI, they also planned to put Arcee, Jetfire and Soundwave with Ravage and Laser Beak in the sequel. .. Arcee??? How do you explain robotic alien gender to the audience? Do the other Autobots hit on her, ask for a date or even have sex with her? Does that mean these transformers pro-create? They better put more elements on developing these characters than their human counterparts because is the story is about these robots at war and not humans at war.

I bet Mr. Michael Bay thinks he got another winner in this sequel, but in reality he will just alienate most fans and make a disappointment out of this film. Hey, Michael you still have 8 months left before you release the movie on June 2009. You have more time to improve this damn movie! Don't disappoint us!

i loved the first transformers....but every thing SHOW said is true.... there is a mountain dew machine out there right now wreaking pure havoc.
  • chad
The first Transformers was really cool but there's a lot of scenes of the government agents that really had terrible acting and that becomes really overrated. i would agree that they would show more autobot and decepticon clash scenes than the sidekick kid hiding his porn videos underneath his bed while looking for those glasses JUST GET THOSE SCENES OVER AND DONE WITH. an PLEASE PUT MORE AUTOBOT AND DECEPTICON BRAWL SCENES for PART 2 RATHER THAN THE KID AND HIS GIRLFRIEND. It's because from the original cartoons itself there were more robot clash scenes.PLEASE
  • shannon.a
I am sure the ones that did not like or even hate the transformers then and now found themselves when they were kids snugled up with there rainbow brite or my little ponys when they went to sleep at night!
