Page 2 is the name we give to all of the news, rumors, and randomness that fall in between the cushions of Slashfilm’s couch (not the one in mom’s basement). Tonight’s edition was approved by Dave and Chainsaw.

The final poster for November’s Repo! The Genetic Opera has touched down. Expect an opinion on the film from Peter in the coming days, as the musical is scheduled to play  Fantastic Fest in Austin. Seems like we’ve been hearing about this movie for years. Are you over it? Click to make it pop.

Michael Douglas will star as a former car salesman/sex addict whose life and marriage falls apart in Solitary Man from writing team David Levien and Brian Koppelman (Rounders, Ocean’s 13). The duo will also helm the project; they previously directed the Vin Diesel vehicle Knockaround Guys. Susan Sarandon, Jenna Fischer (The Office), and Danny DeVito (who’s starred in at least two comedic gems with Douglas) are close to signing on, so this could turn out stellar. Steven Soderbergh is producing. I wonder if Douglas will get his much-desired fast food breakfast this time? (First Showing)

While on a British radio station Al Pacino mentioned an idea floating around that would re-team him and Robert DeNiro for a drag comedy. The legends would pretend to be sisters. [Blush] DeNiro chimed in with, “That could happen, who knows?” Hopefully not the director of Righteous Kill and 88 Minutes. Zing. (SS)

Latino Review have slapped an early draft of the Green Lantern script with an enthusiastic, spoiler-filled B+. Along with the buzzing script for Green Arrow (formerly Supermax), they profess that Warner Bros. will once again be a worthy competitor of Marvel Studios. And the site confidently deadens those David Boreanaz-as-Hal Jordan rumors. Evidently, the final script is currently out to other, younger actors.

TV: To a moderate amount of surprise, HBO has picked up their ratings-challenged vampire series, True Blood, for a second season. The second episode on Sunday, which saw a promising uptick in viewers, was not as problematic and irritating as the pilot, but I’m not sure I’ll stick with it. What about you? In other TV news, what did you guys think about the season finale of Weeds? I thought the ending was a weak twist that once again exploits the series’ on-again-off-again flirtation with reality and believable consequences. Someone should have caught a bullet instead of a roofie. Nice breasts, though. Entourage is still reaching into its designer fannypack of ho’s and cameos. Bring back Anna Faris, not the Britney-knockoff. C’mon. And tack on another 30 minutes. With its great yet eerily uneventful second season halfway over, Mad Men raised the stakes on Sunday. One of the best eps ever. Joan’s ass was even bigger, notice that? Female figure foreshadowing. And brilliant bra-strap stigmata. Judging from reactions, Fringe is still disappointing fanboys. Feel free to discuss these shows below.

Spout reports that a script for Infinite Jest, the maddening, new-classic tome by the late David Foster Wallace, does exist after all. There’s been much speculation online ever since the author committed suicide, but Wallace’s agent, Bonnie Nadell, parlayed via email that Keith Bunin wrote an IF screenplay sans Wallace’s involvement and, at one point, Sam Jones was indeed attached to direct. Jones previously directed the Wilco doc I Am Trying to Break Your Heart. The project is no longer in development, but Nadell purportedly gave the screenplay an endorsement. Got all that? I’m curious to see if the ball starts rolling again. And RIP DFW, sympathies to the wife. via Vulture

Unsurprisingly, Edward Norton sounds out of the loop regarding plans for the new Hulk (franchise?). He calls Marvel “opaque but not obtuse” when it comes to keeping him informed and adds that he hasn’t heard how they’ll approach The Avengers. However, the actor doesn’t sound adverse to reprising the role. Norton acting opposite RDJ, Samuel L. Jackson, and whoever ends up playing Thor and Captain America would be a trip, man—quite an understatement. Hail Mary. (Splash)

Viggo still wants to do The Hobbit, hasn’t heard anything. No bigs, tho. Early stages. (MTV)

Bruce Willis will make his debut as a director on Three Stories About Joan, an eccentric-sounding indie project and yeah, there’s a ghost in it. The logline via CHUD: the film “interweaves the three phases of a young womans struggle to retain her faith in a love borne out of need, destroyed by a madness, and restored by a ghost.” The film will be shot quickly on a “$10-25 million budget”—October 3rd to November 10th—in Louisiana. Willis will star in the film, as will Owen Wilson and Kieran Culkin. Go Bruce go.

Joining Willis’s daughter, Rumer Willis, and The HillsAudrina Patridge in the Summit Entertainment remake of The House on Sorority Row will be Carrie Fisher. What can be easily overlooked with this casting tidbit (unless the script wildly differs, which is possible) is that Fischer will play the head of the sorority house in the film—this character was the cane-wielding undead murderer in the cheesy but watchable original. via STYD

Over at Collider, there’s a totes-geeked out article on the controversy surrounding the newspaper that Tony Stark holds up near the end of Iron Man. Lawsuits, “DVD censorship,” vengeful geek spies, the ever-complex influence of movie blogs on studios and vice versa, and the cute, shrinking corpse of journalism! Check it out if you like meta movie blog gossip. It’s only a matter of time before a blogger gets cast as Martian Manhunter, I can feel it in my Blackberry. Or is that the hand of First Showing’s Alex Billington!?

Discuss: All of it in depth.

  • Have to disagree with your diagnosis of Fringe as disappointing. While some of the performances have been uneven, namely John Noble as Dr.Walter Bishop, the stories have both been good and this week really worked up the freak out factor in the first few minutes. It's by no means perfect, but I spoke with a few others who felt the same way, not all of them Abramsites like myself. I think part of the problem is comparisons to X-Files and LOST, it's neither of those shows. While it is certainly derivative of X-Files, it can't be that show. I think the pilot is definitely the weaker of the two eps so far. Last night hooked me pretty strongly. We need less John Noble and more Lance Reddick. The man is an ace.

    bruce willis directing?
that sure as fuck is going to be interesting.
  • Gabriel
Ok, so I was recently introduced to this site not to long ago and so far I've enjoyed it.
But with that reference to Summer School's Dave and Chainsaw, I may be upgrading to a long term crush.
  • joelnstuff
Whoa! A Summer School reference??! WOW!
I own that movie on VHS!
  • Adam B.
just stopping in to comment on Fringe.
I watched both episodes when they aired, and still feel.. uncertain.
I really REALLY wanna like it, but it seems so dull and drawn out at certain points.
just seems like some parts of the show are great and then it dips off every so often.
also, I'm going through "The Wire" DVD's, and I can't help but think "they're day and night" in my head.
I know it's not a comparison for Fringe (or any TV show)-- it just seems so generic though.

I really liked the Weeds finale, in fact I really liked the whole season. The show has its flaws but it's nothing less than entertaining.

Also, while Mad Men hasn't bolted out of the gate it's been totally engrossing. All the "missing years" reveals (such as Draper visiting the hospital) have been brilliantly executed and surprising. Oh and Joan is the sexiest creature to appear on TV ... ever.
  • Olive hill
Just thought I'd ask if anyone else heard the preported other movie based on the same subject matter and apparently the original script that REPO stole. I only heard some details but apparently the other shot in Toronto at the same time as repo, and is a cop drama. Which to me already makes this repo better for stealing the premise and making it look kickass.

Weeds was LEGENDARY, and thank you for the breasts not behind fogged glass.

Entourage is going in an awesome direction, but BRING BACK THE SLOAN!!!!!!!

I'm game for De niro in Drag!
  • CHAINSAW & DAVE!!!
wow, i havent watched summer school in YEARS.
    nice !
  • orange cinema
-true blood is a fun show. her accent is as terrible as it was in x-men, but i like the original way they tweaked with the vampire mythos, so i'll stick with it.
-weeds season 4 is tied with season 1 for best yet, it was 100% flawless.
-entourage NEEDS to be longer than the sorry 22-27 minutes a week we get. and they better get some good arc's going, because the vince rollercoaster is getting old. 'E' is an annoying prick as usual, I'm soooo tired of that character.
-fringe is too early to tell. i totally see the x-files influence, which isn't bad, but they're gonna have to make the overall 'the pattern'/arc more accessable than x-files did, because of the ADD audiences have today. i like the old man/professor, he's weird but sweet.

-dexter would kill every character from every show mentioned, in what would be the mother of all crossovers. i'm pissed there's only gonna be 13 episodes, but it'll still be better than anything else on tv, until we get lost back.
  • i actually am enjoying FRINGE.
is it GREAT? probly not. is it SHIT?
hell no. its fun, free television.
decent actors, im sure it will find its legs.
    B+

Haven't watched 2nd episode of Fringe yet, but enjoyed the first enough to allow it 4 or 5 eps to hook me. Most shows need at least that to find a groove.

Entourage: Too much E. Not enough Turtle. Drama level is just right.

Hey /Film, I dig the Page 2. Do it more often. It stimulates my interest far more than another pointless article on casting rumors on the next Batman.
  • Baron Von Cheddar
I agree with Olive Hill, Madmen's Joan is the sexiest creature captured on television. Could she be ushering in an era of curvy-sexy over the current waif-sexy? Even now, millions of observers sit in front of their monitors, ready to mark the shifting winds of social progress.

    @ oRANGE cINEMa

True Blood- "her accent" is soo no bad at all!
a lot of critics are thinking emmy consideration for her role you know?!

its a decent show, i liked it alot very peculiar but i am wired now!

Fringe- if Seth up there is right then i might enjoy the second episode more than the first one i literaly had do keep my eyes open just to finish watchin the first ep!

Weeds- I wantt breast! i want Weed! i still didnt get a chance to watch weeds exept the first 2 episodes of THE FIRST SEASON!i know embarrasing!

hey slashfilm u guys should do a page 2 about series heim?
    what do u guys say??
  • I don't mind Fringe, its x-files but more science, less paranormal (if that makes sense), plus production design, etc, is great...

Liked the 2nd episode of True Blood better than the pilot, the previews for the 3rd episode look good...

Entourage is good so far, i agree it should be 30 min longer, but keep Anna Faris away from the show, I think she is terrible, can't stand her...

What do you think about Sons of Anarchy on FX? I like the show so far, it has my interest
  • zinkywinks
True Blood - Meh. I'm really waiting for something to happen with this. I still don't know why she can hear people's thoughts, it's really quite annoying with no explanation. The Good vs Evil vampire thing is a nice plot line, even if Bill isn't really all that good. Other than that, is anything else really going on here? We all know she'll eventually end up letting Bill bite her, then sometime actually become a vampire. How? Will it be a good journey? =/

Weeds - Ugh. I don't understand how people are saying this is the best season since the first. Not so much on here, but other places. This has been the most boring, non-funny season of a COMEDY series I may have ever experienced. I've stuck with the show out of habit than enjoyment. The whole thing that the series is built around, a housewife and mother selling weed in the burbs with some comedy sprinkled in, is gone. The whole Mexico plot line is horrible, I can't stand the Esteban character or the relationship with him and Nancy. Shane really freaked me out this season, Silas needed more time since he was the only one dealing weed. Andy and Doug got horribly stifled. Quite pathetic.

Entourage - They definitely need to be longer episodes, maybe not full hours, but even 20 minutes more would be reasonable. There's too much 'E', this is supposed to be an ensemble cast, right? I hope the French girl is done with for good now, Drama was getting horribly lost in that plot. I like trying to build Vince back up, it was getting really annoying for him to get everything he wanted. So far, so good for the fab 4.

Fringe - Sigh. The story ideas are really good but the execution is horrible. This week was a huge upgrade from the pilot. The pacing was much better, while still not amazing. The acting is god-awful, but I can get past it because of the story. The idea of the cloned 'son' is a good twist, but they're letting on to it way too much, too early on. The best part of the show is Kirk Acevedo, unfortunately he's only in it for about 3 minutes an episode. It completely bothers me that these super cops can track down killers and all the stuff they do over 2 days. Lastly, is it just me or was Dr. Walter speaking with a dutch accent for half the episode?
  • Mikey M
Love Fringe. Where is the info coming from that fanboys do not like it. Funny in todays world everyone has to hate a show before it has even found it's grounding.
Give it a chance people. I thought the second episode was very effectve and eerie like X-files used to be. Look how long that show took to be a hit.
    Acting horrible? Huh?
Weeds? Tired of this show. Time to end it. What, Celia is going to be held captive next season for comic relief?
Is Nancy going to be Pregnant all next season?
Is her Brother in law going to be in love with her?
Are the kids going to sleep with whomever they want?
    Ughh.
    Horrible season!
  • flavorsplash.
the green lantern script sounds awesome!!!!!! *nerdgasm*

    @ Baron Von CHedder

I didn't even say it but I was thinking it; I forth the notion! BRING BACK THE ASS!
  • krackajap
As much as I love Repo! and pray it's going to be a good movie, can you really declare anything as a "instant cult classic" ? Isn't that an oxymoron?
  • Don Booty
I rented the "free" debut episode of "Tru Blood" at Blockbuster. having read the many and various reviews (and - full disclosure - being a sucker for nearly ANY vampire story on film), I fully anticipated a singular HBO viewing experience. OMG. B-est of the Grade Bs? "Cheesy" not descriptive enough to descibe the stench emanating from this travesty? Straight to DVD - subscription only?
Struggling young actors finally getting to perfect their hillbilly accents? If this is what HBO is offering - for pay - I'm not a taker.
  • Don Booty
What a magical experience! The "free" debut episode of Tru Blood that I rented at Blockbuster fully demonstrated the astonishing creativity of Alan Butler, who was able to transform the much-aligned "southern gothic" stereotype into a nearly-Shakespearean tour de force. Who could have imagined that the "Billy Bobs" of Louisiana would possess such primal power and incandescent beauty?

Christina Hendricks is the best looking woman on television.

Okay....maybe not as hot as Mini Anden on Chuck, but right up there :)
