With potential for yet another mind-shattering Republican satire hanging in the balance, Vanity Fair has published the first look at the entire 2003 cabinet in Oliver Stone’s W. There’s a good overall likeness, sure, but I dig the quirky soap opera-esque caricature Stone seems to be shooting for. What better way to portray the walking jokes and greedy, delusional scumbugs that raped my early 20s?

(L to R) Jeffrey Wright is General Colin Powell, Toby Jones is Karl Rove (even more imp-like), Dennis Boutsikaris is Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Dreyfuss is Dick Cheney (my second fave douche-likeness), Josh Brolin is George W. Bush

(L to R) Thandie Newton is Condoleezza Rice (nice Gremlin eyes), Rob Corddry is Ari Fleischer (my fave), Bruce McGill is George Tenet (smug, much), Scott Glenn is Donald Rumsfeld (theory: doesn’t deserve any likeness)

And here’s a new image we never got around to posting. Pee-wee’s Big Adventure x Sling Blade? Economy permitting, Oliver Stone’s W. opens this October.

Have a greater assortment of actors ever portrayed such an array of douchebags?
  • I hereby nominate "W" as "Movie with most character make-ups that never quite got it right"

WTF is wrong with Thandie Newton? LOL ... looks like someone took that Photoshop "Pinch" filter to her eyes and went a little too far. Richard Dreyfus looks like Richard Dreyfus and Scott Glenn looks like Lance Henriksen

"Scumbags that raped your early 20s"? REALLY?
Tell us how you really feel.
  • gah
God, Dreyfuss as Cheney is pitch perfect. I hope this has some kind of impact on the election. I'm not above propaganda at this point.

Actually don't tell us how you feel. We don't care. Just give us the photos.

You are an idiot. Your 20's weren't raped by anybody in this administration. The fact that you sit in your mothers basement writing blogs and bitching about the state of afairs, while in reality doing nothing is laughable. The fact the people put stock in your opinions is sad. This movie is going to bomb, because people see O. Stone for the moron he is.
  • gah
But that's Hunter's whole schtick! He's the one who actually gives an opinion with the article. I used to think he was Peter's Tyler Durden until he actually spoke on filmcast. No ones forcing you to read the text anyway. Keep it up Hunter.

You sit in your mothers basement reading his blogs, commenting with your own opinions about his opinions, bitching about his bitching on the state of affairs and aren't doing shit either.
    You=laughable

If McCain/Palin get voted, then Idiocracy becomes the best documentary about America ever filmed. I hope this film helps sway some of the votes of our Walmarters out there in canon fodder land, a.k.a. The Mid West.

Is the makeup SUPPOSED to look that bad??
  • Henry Jones Jr
I'd like this site better if Hunter would just leave and go write for the Huffington Post already.
  • Arch Stanton
Raped your early 20s? That's just ignorance. So you think NAFTA is good? Because that's Clinton's fault. You thought the older Bush was good? You thought Reagan was good? Carter? Nixon?

PLEASE leave the politics off the movie site. even idiots should be able to see we've been ***ed for a lot longer than eight years. Bush is awful, but so were most of the others.

    This movie looks absolutely terrible.

    @ Henry Jones

I actually prefer Drudge Report to Huffington Post, but thanks.

    @ diablo-wy

    You got me!
  • Domino
Really wish they would released this AFTER the election
  • Bull
diablo - the only people on this site who I don't take stock in their opinion is you and poor losers like yourself. Why don't you shut the fuck up.

Same goes for people who get mad because the person who writes the articles on this site states their opinion on the subject. There are no written rules that say you can only give movie news and never state your opinion. If you don't like it, get the fuck off the site.
  • Turkey Neck
when the hell did they shoot this movie, seems like everything has happened in the past 3-4 months. how good can a movie be if its shot and gone through post and into theaters in that time?
  • Ezra
"What better way to portray the walking jokes and greedy, delusional scumbugs that raped my early 20s?"

How, personally, has George W. Bush's administration affected your life?
  • Bull
"How, personally, has George W. Bush’s administration affected your life?"

You mean the fact that the economy is in ruin, while people we know are being killed in a pointless war? Is that good enough you dumb fuck.
  • Hunter Stephenson
    @ Bull

Great job. Slashfilm has an opening for a night guard if you're interested. ;)
  • Can't wait for this movie. I'm just worried about the tone it's shooting for. Serious or whimsical?
  • Roberto
Surprisingly (even to myself) this is really the only thing coming out this fall that I'm kind of looking forward to. That is unless Dec. 19th is still fall (forget when the damn soltice is) in which case it is second to The Wrestler. Of course, the field is pretty weak this fall.
  • Scott
I wonder why some of these posts are even listed as it clearly says above the comment box "No hate speech allowed. If you must argue, please debate intelligently."

Any comments including such lovely sentiments as "There are no written rules that say you can only give movie news and never state your opinion. If you don’t like it, get the fuck off the site."

I just love how everyone is so excited over a movie that is nothing but 100% propoganda. Oliver Stone is doing anything he can to have this movie out in time to sway the election. Its such a shame that the man who directed such great movies as JFK and Platoon has sunk so low as to use his name to push his agenda.

Whether I agree with his politics or not, it is absolutely wrong to pump out a political movie which may or may not be based in fact before we decide who will run this country. Let the American people make their own decisions without Oliver Stones skewed view of history affecting their judgement. I would have no objections if there was a team of independant fact checkers reviewing this movie before release. If the facts cannot be verified, then it needs to be released after the general election. Thats Fair.

Only a true dim-bulb would think for even a second that President Bush has "ruined" the economy. Actually, the "ruination" such as it is was, as Robert Reich explained, the result of the Clinton administration pushing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to start giving mortgages to people who couldn't afford them. Do a little research and it will all make sense to you. I promise. As for the war, that was a cluster fuck in which everyone joined.
  • Bull
David - Or it was the fact that the GOP pushed towards the de-regulation of markets. Everyone joined? Does that make it right; the war was a cluster fuck which we led. You suck.
  • @Bull

''Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' Democrat Barney Frank, 2003 http://tinyurl.com/6lp5qu

And McCain tried to push for tighter regulation of Fannie/Freddie in 2005, only to have it killed by Dems.

Eagerly awaiting your response where you call me something rude due to your inability to defend your position rationally.

    Vic
  • marz
instead of richard dreyfuss as cheney,i would have used that actor from 'the day after tommorrow' who played the vice prez.his name is kenneth welsh.here's a pic of him. http://www.vicepresidents.com/files/u41/welsh.jpg
  • This movie is disgusting. What did they threaten Oliver Stone with to make him direct this pile of horse crap?
  • Bull
    http://wizbangblue.com/2008/09/17/meet-deregula...

Vic - quoting one Democrat who made a dumb remark doesn't make you right. I agree McCain isn't bad for markets (which we were talking about the Bush administration so I'm not sure why you brought this up) but he recently went back on his theory of total deregulation. The GOP loves free markets, and so do I, but you need some oversight. Coming from someone who is going to intern for the SEC, I think I know what I'm talking about more than you, SON.
  • Austin Will
Congrats to /film on alienating a huge portion of your audience with that ham-fisted attempt at editorializing. I prefer my movie news to be neither Air America nor Fox News, m'kay? Buh-bye. Maybe I'll check back after the election.
  • Wall•E Plays Pong
Somehow, someway, I do not think a large portion of /film cast readers will be offended by a negative critique of the Bush administration. Considering his approval rating is hovering around 30%, you're in safe waters Hunter. And for those leaving in response to you editorializing, probably better they leave or take a break for a while anyway.
  • HmmLameYes
    Wow, "raped my early 20s"?
Sounds like somebody has some pent up aggression, does Hunter need to "hug it out"?
  • Mack
'raped my early 20s'? You are a clown. We don't want your insipid editorializing ok you fool? Just post the damn pictures with a descriptive caption you process monkey. A computer program could do your job. And one day it will. Wake up to your stupidity. Bush made sure the muslim world will be scared to attack for at least the next 30 years, lest we randomly set alight the middle east by throwing darts at the map again. He did his job.

I look forward to stone's film. And if I ever come back here and see your moronic editorializing again... I will tell 'anonymous' to break into your email account.
  • @Bull

Hey man, my respect for you just climbed quite a few notches. :-)

    Best,

    Vic
  • Ezra
    @ Bull

Wow. You think that a war that has essentially destroyed al Qaeda and subverted the majority their efforts away from American soil is a pointless war? You think that a war that has set a precedent for Middle Eastern countries shaking off totalitarianism and establishing a more democratic republic against the wishes of extremist Muslims is a pointless war?

    Grow up.
