Clint Eastwood’s Changeling Movie Trailer

In 1928, Christine Collins of Los Angeles reported her nine-year old son, Walter, as missing. In the midst of charges of corruption and negative publicity, the Los Angeles police department was desperate for a positive P.R. boost from solving the case. After much searching, they finally found a boy in DeKalb, IL claiming to be Walter, and returned him to his mother. But it wasn’t really him. This immutable fact galvanized Collins on a quest to find the truth and a battle against authorities that threatened to tear her life apart.

Decades later, Ms. Collins’ story was discovered and turned into a screenplay by screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski. The trailer for Changeling, directed by Clint Eastwood, is now here and it shows a great deal of promise. Despite recent films like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Tomb Raider, and Wanted, I’ve always believed that Jolie has enormous amounts of legitimate acting talent that just needs an appropriate film outlet to be adequately displayed. Her recent lauded performance in A Mighty Heart was apparently demonstrative of this, and Changeling looks to continue the trend. Changeling is scheduled for limited release in the U.S. on October 24, 2008. What do you guys think of the trailer?

Hello ??? Did you forget she won an OSCAR for "Girl, Interrupted" ???
  • Cosmetic_Damage
    I smell some Oscar Noms
  • Cesar
Finally! This looks great and good to see Jolie kicking some dramatic ass. She was snubbed last year for A Mighty Heart but should make it in this year. Go Jolie!

Very good point about "Girl, Interrupted", but all I was trying to say is that I feel like we've rarely seen that Jolie in the 9 years since that film's release. In my opinion, her wildly uneven filmography is not worthy of her considerable talent.
  • Yeah, looks like it could be a return to the Oscars for Jolie, but we will see. Only time will tell.

So many people underestimate Angelina's acting ability. When she chooses the right script she can churn out a fine performance. From what I can tell she seems to nail it in this trailer. Good for her. Hopefully we will see her name come Oscar time. It's been too long.
Possible supporting nom for John too.

    waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw
  • Regardless of what you thought of the movie (which I thought was kind of fun, but sort of dissolved in the last 1/3), AJ gave a very strong comedy performance in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." I know it's not Shakespeare, but that doesn't make her part any less impressive. I thought people were a overall a little hard on that one.

As for the trailer, looks pretty good. Though Clint Eastwood working with the Babylon 5 guy is not a bad thing, but, well, interesting. Considering how much I admire Clint, maybe it's time I finally gave that show a chance....

Looking forward to it, trailer looks great. It's good to see that life's not all about shooting the wings off flies.

wow, was that Jolie in the trailer?? So she's hot AND can act??
  • BadWasabi
The woman can act, although I thought she looked a little over the top in that trailer.

  • John Spiker
I was completely caught up in that trailer for some reason. I like the general tone and I always have time for a good role for Malkovich. I'm looking forward to it!
  • bart
It seems like she is overacting or at least the trailer makes it feel that way. Malkovich looks good though. The movie seems like a bad L.A. Confidential showing the nastiness of the LAPD.
  • REAL6
Sounds like she wants her son back.
  • NC-17forkids
She was good in the The Good Shepherd.
  • Bob
but will she get her son back is the question REAL6

This was a trademark Clint Eastwood film, but still.. I felt it was very different from some of his other works such as Million Dollar Baby. Angelina Jolie's powerful yet understated acting had me hanging on the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie. Hollywood did something right for once.

But above all, it was the story that had the biggest impact on me, and I hope I can find a movie or book as good as Changeling. If you’re a fan of the movie and want to know more about Sanford Clark and Gordon Northcott, I just learned that writer Anthony Flacco has a publishing deal with Sterling for The Road Out of Hell: Sanford Clark and the True Story of the Wineville Murders. It’s being described as a psychological thriller written in cooperation with the adult living son of Sanford Clark. The book, I’m told, will be out in Fall ’09.
