Video Blog Review: Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler

Tonight I attended the North American premiere of Darren Aronofsky’s new film The Wrestler. I plan on writing a full review tomorrow, but for right now check out this quick video blog review. I am joined by Indie movie expert Eric Lavallee of IOnCinema.com and Alex Billington from FirstShowing.net. If you can’t tell, I absolutely loved the film. I hate to add to the Oscar buzz, but well, I see award nominations in Mickey Rourke’s future.

THANKS for your opinions. I'm planning on seeing it at the NYC Film Festival
  • LOL - Thanx for the face time!
I'm going to play a drinking game to every time I, and we say "uummmmmm?"

We forgot to add/or discuss some of the better sequences in the film - there are three specifically that might be worth mentioning.

The first is an elongated, montage-like flashback sequence that shows the nature of The Ram's physical wounds, that is both cringe worthy and yet, fascinating.

Rourke also showcases some of his dramatic acting capabilities with a one on one scene with his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) overlooking some Jersey shoreline. I originally thought this scene might be out of place, but it works without being over sentimental.

Finally, there is a De Plama-like (Snake Eyes) walk through the corridors -- I thought it was a nice gadget to show The Ram's duel lives.

I'd have to say that from that interview footage (containing bits of the film) the acting looks in this film looks superb.

    good to hear your thoughts.

on the subject, anyone have an extra ticket for Che on 10/7?
  • Alxe, the score of Jesse James was way more conplex than the same piano re-used. Pick the album up and you will be presently suprised, it was the best of 07 (yes better than TWBB)...
  • Hey Peter!
