  • Toy Story insight was great. But the star wars one makes no sense whatsoever.
  • Christopher Edwards
I saw those ads and a few others at a small film festival.

The star wars one i have heard people talking about it and the same refferences.
  • fat dave
    that's really clever.
    i love it.

wow they were pretty decent! toy story and lord of the rings were the best! i think the guy sat in the projector room was pretty funny, he had a kind of "this is spinal tap" way of talking...

    VW FOR EVER!!VIEW FILMS DIFFERENTLY!!
  • A Better Class of Criminal
Superfragilisticexpialidocious... yeah I'm not seeing it.

I thought the Toy Story one was hillarious (incedentally my 9th grade sex ed teacher had a wooden penis name "woody" that he used to explain anatomy, It was really creepy but incredibly funny)
The Lord of the Rings one was my favorite though.

The Star Wars and Die Hard clips didn't make any since to me.

But the Ghostbusters one actually does... he forgot to mention the Puff Marshmallow Man at the end, that also confirms it's about fat people.

I've been saying all of this for years...

The first one (Toy Story) is great, the others were weak IMO...
  • Matt
Poppins and Die Hard were weak, lacked inspiration and imagination. The rest I had a good laugh at.
  • Cor blimey (guvnor), the woman doing the Toy Story one is my friend Oriane - co-writer of UK sitcom Green Wing. She does have a habit of popping up on sites I'm browsing and FREAKING ME OUT.

yeah, it's called a british accent
  • Joe
They were all kind of weak. The toy story one was cute.

What about It's a Wonderful Life.

That movie explained the different types of Capitalism.
  • Jefe
I think the Die Hard one's the best. Blunt and to the point. It's perfect.

...about one man's fight against the fashion industry. ...all these terrorists come in wearing suits. Bruce Willis is wearing a vest, and he kills 'em all.

The basic message is: "Suits are for losers... and real men wear vests."

Genius. Top notch. Well said. Good show.
  • Jefe
P.S. It's funny to me beause, as I take it, I assume "vest" is a British colloquialism for what we Yanks like to call a "wifebeater" (simply, an undershirt).

I mean, it's true, The Bruce takes out all of Alan Rickman's gang in his bloody wifebeater, all the while not even wearing any shoes! The man is a bada$$.

The original Die Hard is one of the greatest films ever. Period. 'Nuff said.

Even though there might be a similarity here or there its amazing how much they had to stretch to make a point – die hard is about anti-fashion? Slim. This whole ad campaign is weak, while I do agree with finding hidden meaning and cultural relevance in film, this is far from it.
They could at least given something that’s actually credible like Top Gun being about homosexual love. Oh wait Quentin Tarantino already did that -

It's a gag, guy, run with it; it's not meant to be taken literally.

The gimmick's stretching the idea of how people interpret popular films to the extreme. This isn't an upper division film course, after all; it's a VW ad campaign.

i really dug those videos, priceless comes to mind. i love the LOTR responsibilitiy argument, dude Gandalf could have just ended the quest before it ever started if he wanted...
  • jackal27
The Last Samurai? It's Dances With Wolves in Japan.
  • Pat
Toy Story is actually the most convincing argument; the others are obviously written for their comedic effect, but the case for Toy Story being about male insufficiency is priceless.
