Michelle Rodriguez Returns to Lost

Entertainment Weekly has discovered that Michelle Rodriguez will reprise her role as Ana Lucia in one episode of the upcoming season of Lost. The last time we saw the character, she was (spoiler warning) shot to death, which means one of three things:

1. Anna Lucia will return from the dead as a zombie on the Lost island
2. Anna Lucia will be featured in a flash back
3. Hurley or one of the other Oceanic 6 will see her in a hallucination

I’m betting on #3, possibly #2, but with a show like Lost, you can’t discount #1, however unlikely it may be.

Discuss: What do you think of Michelle Rodriguez’s return to Lost.

    Why thank you, Jamie Jay.

Peter-- Still love the site, i just hate spoilers.

Peter just admit you were wrong, it was a spoiler. I would of rather not known she was returning to the show, hence it is a spoiler. Casting is like when you say, russel crow is bill hicks, that is no big deal (other than a horrible bit of casting) but to talk about a show that has been on for years and say a character who was killed is going to be in the new season, is a huge spoiler.

Still love the site, end of tellin off :)

TheMarquis’ Spoiler Rule o’ Thumb FTW!

More likely: a cast member steps out of the shower and declares the past few seasons "just a dream" :-)
  • I'm with everyone else. This is not casting NEWS, Peter. This is character information.

This isn't "Heath Ledger Cast as the Joker in The Dark Knight".

This is "Heath Ledger Cast as the Joker in The Dark Knight Sequel"

That was the best allegory I've ever used...

Can you go ahead and put "SPOILER ALERT" at the top of the article or in the header instead of a word before the spoiler? Thanks...
  • Hendo
    WOW thanks for the spoiler.

I agree with the first comment...

TheMarquis' Spoiler Rule o' Thumb: Take the information. Think, "if i were watching this and DIDN'T know this information, would my viewing experience be heightened/would i be surprised/would it be more entertaining/etc." If the answer to any or all is "yes," then it is a SPOILER...because it spoils the fun.

I've found a trend here at SlashFilm where bloggers/commenters/podcast hosts have a hard time differentiating SPOILERS vs. TWIST ENDINGS. The reveal of a twist ending is always a spoiler, but not all spoilers are the reveals of twist endings. It's like a venn diagram. Spoilers don't always have to be Rosebud-- and just because they're not does not mean they're inconsequential or "not spoilers."

If a bunch of people go "aahh! stop talking, you're spoiling it for me!," especially if it is for an unreleased entertainment event, that makes it a SPOILER, however much you say it isn't so.

This doesn't mean you can't report insider information (cause that's your job). But i'm willing to bet that if you put LOST SPOILER in the title and revealed it after a jump, you'd only have one reply (that one guy who says LOST sucks!!!1!). Every one else would stay away. Putting it on the front page is simply irresponsible.
  • I'm kind of with Ian and Yannick on the spoilers thing, Peter.

It's not a huge deal, since with Lost the bigger question is often how as opposed to what, but at the same time this was not something that was released through official press channels (Ausiello has to be differentiated from EW proper, he operates in different jurisdiction as far as spoiler police go) and thus perhaps could have been either posted below the fold or, inversely, just left to other blogs where people expect (and can avoid) such spoilers.

And I don't buy this as being the same as casting - when it involves a previously deceased or sidestepped character returning to the series, there is value to not knowing ahead of time whether or not they will return. Last night's Mad Men is a prime example, as a previous character showed up without advance hype, warning or otherwise, and it made the scene that much more powerful. I'm not suggesting that this is a definitive analysis, but rather making the point that this isn't nearly as cut and dry as you make it out to be.

Spoilers, if I have learned anything in my time writing about television, are an extremely volatile thing - even though I know that there is value to being able to rile up Lost fans eager to forget the existence of Ana Lucia (A character the victim of the show's stretching too far in its second season as much as Rodriquez' own performance), it still seems like something that could have been shown a bit more caution.

But, until the Worldwide Spoiler Policy goes into effect, the internet is a dangerous place for the wary - so, for those who want to avoid these policies entirely, either wait for a homogeneous society or be willing to take a hit when valid views like Peter's, or many others, are in use.
  • Option 4... Timejumps!

just to quickly add; i think the difference was that with kick-ass, the casting came hand in hand with some big plot developments that weren't known to us, so that's why i was shocked. regardless thanks for clearing it up.

    @ peter

you are right about the decision to stop or keep reading. i guess i was bitching cuz i hadn't heard a reason why. and i know we're both big fans of Y: the last man, and would've been pissed had the same thing happened with that film before the series was finished. thanks for at least explaining how it goes down, happy 3rd b-day to ya'll at /film - and again, 2008 has been the strongest year yet for this site (imo)!

Heck yeah, this is the best news yet....Well this and the trailer to Fast & Furious.
  • orange: I've seen your notes on Kick-Ass, but you need to understand that from a movie standpoint this character information is included in the official plot synopsis and trade repostings. I think anyone who is weary of these spoilers can easily decide "I'm gonna stop here before /Film tells me who Big Daddy is"
  • sauce
Honestly...for fans of the show...this is about as surprising as the big black title screen at the beginning of each episode. And with the word being that they're bringing Mr Eko back too...Shrug. It's Lost...love it or leave it.
  • orange cinema
oh man. yes its gonna be 2 or 3, but to return as the flesh eating undead? seriously?

either way she plays the same annoying character in EVERYTHING she does - so here's to hoping they kill her off again.

spoiler warnings? just look at all the 'kick-ass' ruiners we've been getting.
  • I'm sorry but... Casting is NOT a spoiler.
  • Agreed with the spoilers.

This sucks. I just watched the Fast and Furious trailer and thought "Man, I'm so happy I never have to hear Ana-Lucia's annoying voice again."

    And then this!?

    Damn!

    man,
    fuck lost.
its already getting worse and worse each episode, and this is one of the dumbest things they could do.
  • Captain Awesome
Michelle Rodriguez has proven that science has gone too far.
  • I like how her demise on the show was spoiler-warned, yet her return clearly wasnt.

    Oh well.
  • REAL6

  • lancelewis
    she needed beer money.
