Vin Diesel to Direct Fast and the Furious Prequel

Vin Diesel revealed to ComingSoon that he is directing a 20-minute prequel to the fourth Fast and the Furious movie. Diesel will also star in the prequel alongside Michelle Rodriguez and Sung Kang. No word on how this will connect, if at all, with the earlier films or where it will be released. Maybe it will be included on a DVD re-release of “the original trilogy”. Chances are it can’t be worse than 2 Fast 2 Furious.

This isn’t Diesel’s first time in the director’s chair. He helmed and starred in a short film titled Strays, that was shown during the 1997 Sundance Film Festival. Steven Spielberg saw the short and decided to cast the actor in Saving Private Ryan, jump-starting his career. He tried his hand at directing one more time in a low-budget 1999 short film titled Multi-Facial. Diesel has since tried his hand at producing, at at one point was announced to helm and star in Hannibal the Conqueror, about the Carthaginian general who led an elephant-riding battalion across the Alps to attack Rome in the 3rd Century B.C.

Justin Lin’s Fast and Furious hits theaters on June 5th 2009.

I hate those movies. A prequel about car racing? :P

for what these movies are worth they so what they set out to prove.

A friend of mine loves them and I can watch them if there is nothing else on.

The prequel might be good or just an excuse for diesel to get back on track

This is the greatest artistic achievement since that elephant painted a picture of himself.

  • Why the Fuck are they STILL making these shitty ass movies?
Come on Vin Diesel, try something dramatic again, you're alright.
What the hell does Fast and the Furious have to tell us anymore?
Did it ever have something important to say? No, and if you make this film,
it will be the fourth unnecessary installment of this superfluous franchise.

Oh look! The Cars are shiny and the drive very fast~!!! !WHOO WAWAAH!!

I always thought that the first one is a good popcorn flick. And after that, well.. At least the car scenes are sort of neat.. I always have enjoyed Vin Diesel. He's basically the Schwartzenegar (sp?) of our time, and in my opinion, a MUCH better actor. This should be a neat thing to see Diesel in the director's chair.

Vin Diesel. Wow. His acting is absolutely atrocious. I shudder at the thought of him directing

This is possibly the greatest news I heard all day.

    I am amazed.

I for one am excited for Fast and the Furious 4. Its an interesting franchise, mainly because it has established its own sort of world across 3 films. I love how in the 3rd it kinda brought things full circle and showed how all the characters are linked in some way. Seeing the production photos of Paul Walker and Vin Diesel back in character for number 4 really got me excited.

now the prequel thats being directed by Vin Diesel, I am very curious to see how he executes.

For what it's worth your Vin Diesel data is incorrect. Besides his uncredited performance in the movie "Awakenings" in 1990, he produced, directed and stared in the short film "Multi-facial" in 1994. It was this film that garnered the attention of Steven Spielberg. It was not "Strays" that got the attention of Steven Speilberg, because that movie is HORRIBLE. If you ever get a chance to see "Multi-Facial" I HIGHLY reccommend it because this is/was BY FAR his best work as an actor to date.

that actually sounds like a cool watch, gotta love the Diesel.

I want 'alladat horsepower in here.

Yeah, STRAYS is a feature film. Multi-facial is the short film which is...really, really good. One of my favorite short films.
  • Um... Sung Kang was in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. So if he is in Vin's prequel, it connects the new film to the 3rd one. At the end of the 3rd one, Vin returned to race Lucas Black's character out of respect for Kang's Han, who was killed earlier in the film.
