is reporting that Mike Myers has been cast in a small role in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming war film Inglorious Bastards.

Update: Variety later confirmed that Myers will British General Ed French, “a military mastermind who takes part in hatching a plot to wipe out Nazi leaders.”

It’s interesting to note the comedic casting choices so far: Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), BJ Nowak (The Office), and some also might argue that Eli Roth has a comic delivery.

Adam Sandler was also long rumored to be in line for a role in the film. However, Sandler confirmed to RTE that he was offered a part but regretfully had to decline due to a schedule conflict with the upcoming Judd Apatow’s comedy.

What do you think of Mike Myers being cast in a Tarantino movie? I’m convinced that Myer’s best days are behind him but maybe Tarantino sees something I don’t.

  • Should be interesting to see if it ends up being true.

Mike Myers has defenitly had his day, but depending on which role he gets it won't change the mistakes and his careers but might but him in the right direction to making somthing for future fans to admire.

    EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

If it's a small role and he plays a Nazi, I have no problem with it, unless Verne Troyer is peeking over his shoulder. By casting Eli Roth, IB was already headed in a different direction. I'd like to see Myers do a dramatic supporting role....rather than his Oscar-baiting Keith Moon biopic.

Strange one. But thats ok, I trust QT. If its a small role it should be ok, thats where Myers is at his best, in small doses.

I bet my bottom dollar that Sandler was supposed to play Donny Donovitz...

    That would have been spot-on.

    Oh well

In person, Myers is quite full of himself. I mean, oh my gosh, the more insecure a person is before they become famous, the more boorish they become afterwards. Think Seinfeld is bad? You a very funny man, Myers. Very very funny. But damn dude.

It could be the kind of thing that would kick his career in the head and reset it, like a broken tv of old lore. He needs to do something, his career is like watching a monkey caught in quicksand. It's like you want to save him and help, but he might bite you and then give you monkey cancer.

This movie has definitely given a 180 from what I expected. I decided against reading the script and wait but now I'm just curious to everything that's going on.

I can see it - Mike Meyers can do non-crazy roles too - while So I Married an Axe Murderer was a comedy, it showed a DIFFERENT sort of comedy out of Meyers, one I thoroughly enjoyed.

    LMAO @ Kip.

Mike Meyers... why not? Looking pass comedy, he did great in Studio 54. I'm sure Meyers will do fine in IB.
  • GregoryV...I second the Studio 54 comment. When I saw that movie I couldn't believe it was him....he's REALLY good.
  • Rasmus
Why would you turn down a role in a QT film for a comedy? I bet Sandler will be kicking himself 2 years from now, when he compares the two movies. And I would really have loved to see him in a... "real" movie so to speak.
  • Bob
does anyone know where the script is i can't seem to find it?
  • Donnie Darko
B.J. Novak? Eli Roth? Mike Myers? No Michael Madsen or Tim Roth? The more I hear about IB, the less I want to see it.

What in the hell happened to Quentin Tarantino? Will he ever manage to match his early to mid 90s glory days? I hope so. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were so good. And then he was getting offers all over the place, and adapted an Elmore Leonard novel (I liked Jackie Brown, though it wasn't what I expected. Most people I know who've heard of Pulp and RD haven't heard of JB, barring the diehards). And then after the disappointing (to many but not me) movie that was Jackie Brown, he just disappeared for 6 years. Pulp Fiction was 14 years ago, QT. Kill Bill and Death Proof were decent, but not Cannes material. Come back to us, Quentin, we miss you

Myers needs a career reboot. He could be great in a supporting role w/o being any resemblance to the myers of the last five years. He needs a "stranger than fiction" film under his belt.
  • cinemaniac1979
QT must need a character with a super-fake Scottish accent and an arsenal of three well-worn jokes.

If Myers plays a Nazi, I really hope he doesn't play it like Dieter...
  • Thinking about Sandler as Donowitz gives me goosebumps.

I would delay the release so that I could have Sandler in that role instead of Eli who, seriously, has shown me nothing to convince me that he should have/can handle that large of a role.

Myers, if he is in it, in a small role sounds about right. Maybe one of the small Nazi roles or one of the Bastards who lasts a short amount of time?

NO! Say it ain't so. Adam has potential from Reign Over Me and Punch Drunk Love (there's a few more in there where he was amazing, the titles are skipping my mind), but Mike Myers? WTF? The man hasn't done a single good movie in my book (except Shrek, and that's not saying much)! Who the hell is casting for this movie? Fire that guy!

The good thing is Tarantino will pull the reins on his stupid comedy shtick. Unlike the other Yes Men is surrounded with.

So he can get Myers to not act like fucking Austin Powers douche on set. Tarantino comands performances from his actors most of the time.
  • Ford
Yeah, I think that as a little cameo, it could be kind of funny. And who knows, Tarantino might make him play it seriously. I mean, Ted Dansen was in Saving Private Ryan, and he wasn't distracting in the least.
  • holy crap do I hate Mike Myers.. this is awful news. I'm glad he is only one scene, if he were a main character I would have to pass this movie up.. and that says a lot because of how much I enjoy Tarantino movies..
  • Christopher Marc
I agree with Cap this isn't bad news at all. Tarantino will bitch out that diva if he tries to mess around with the script or "douche" it up on set. Myers has a bad reputation and working on a high profile project like this while behaving himself will do wonders for his diminished career. He can be reserved when directed to be, 54 was one of his better movies.
  • RE: Kip

I don't know what monkey cancer is, but I want some.
  • I think the problem is with Myers doing material put together by Myers. His brand of comedy has become very "one trick pony". I think if you put him in a role, serious or comedic, that is someone else's vision and work you'll see that he's still got it. His talent is in the execution of material and not so much the creation.
  • mikle
    is this a comedy?
  • &E B.
There needs to be some sort of online petition to get Sandler. What is he thinking? Fucking Apatow over Tarantino! What! What! God I'm getting fucking sick of these stupid fucking Apatow movies. HE'S NOT THAT GREAT. On the other hand, Wayne's World is one of my favorite comedies of all time. I think it may be the most watched movie of my life. Myers should do fine under Tarantino.
  • Anomaly
This will only be good news if his career is revitalized in a good way, and not if it makes his more recent style movies successful.
  • Anomaly
    @&E B.
Online petitions have never changed anything, don't start another useless one.
  • Buckley
This movie is gonna blow our minds.
  • Nish
If meyers and sandler are going to be in this, then I think I'll wait till they show this film on tv and the only other thing on is big brother.
  • Chromey
Maybe as a writer Myers is tapped for the time being but as a performer he's an underused gold mine. His MTV movie awards characters alone are proof of that to me.
  • J.Aaron
Have any of you amateurs on this site ever heard about spell check? I mean, I realize you're just dumb fanboys, but for Christ's sake at least fake it until you make it.
  • Andrew
I can imagine what it would be like if Myers tried to take over. He'd probably play a Nazi scientist who bottles his own farts for the death camp gas chambers
  • Chris Bennett
On the surface I would agree that Myers is an odd choice, but have you forgotten who we're dealing with here? Tarantino wrote the book on odd and it's part of his appeal. Do you really think that one actor in a small role can destroy the whole film? Just be thankful it's not Keanu Reeves. Now walk away from your computers and have faith that all will be okay. Better yet, go outside.
