Former Tori Spelling deflowerer, turntable spinner and current Terminator TV star, Brian Austin Green, has thrown his hat (sideways baseball cap?) into the casting ring for Batman 3. B.A.G. was wowed by Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight and feels deep down he’s the right thespian to play The Riddler in the next installment

“I would love to be the Riddler,” Green told MTV in all seriousness. “I hope to God they don’t replace Heath and have the Joker [again]. So they need a new villain and The Riddler makes sense. …[My Riddler] would take years of preparation. It’s tough. Heath set the bar a new level.”

How do our readers feel about this? Put your love of 90210 aside and be honest. I mean, on one hand, fanboy favorites Johnny Depp or Hugo Weaving could wash away Jim Carrey’s annoying red hair and green nylon body suit, but on the deformed other, Brian Austin Green made One Stop Carnival, one of the indisputable white rapper masterpieces of the ’90s. Riddle me this? How many babysitters had their beloved copies thrown into the woods? Plus, B.A.G.’s last name is a big qualification for the role, and so is “I bang Megan Fox.” Brian Austin Green, the actor, the question, the joke.

Discuss: B.A.G. for The Riddler? Megan Fox for Catwoman? Tori Spelling for Bane?

Balls: /Film reader and B.A.G. contrarian Joseph Ferrarelli says, “Ya know what? I was down on [casting] Ledger. I’m not going to make the same mistake twice.”

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say.....

    no.
  • Seth
If he says he can do it, then let him do a screen test and let the casting directors see, and then upload it to YouTube.

    It's the only way.
  • Antibodies
He is a poor mans Corey Haim.
  • I don't know????

    Riddle me this
    Riddle me that
should Brian Austin be the Riddler????

The only person I can see as the Riddler is Johnny Depp or Jim Carrey, but if he thinks he can top them on the big screen then prove it!! Lets see a audition tape or something....
  • The Jezzus
Sounds like he would dedicated! But if you think about it, how many other actors would LOVE to be the Riddler after seeing Ledger tear it up?

I wouldn't say no to him but I would politely tell him to get in line (a long line!)
  • Eric Smith
Yeah....despite what Brian Austin Green thinks, I don't think he has the acting range that could level with Heath Ledger's performance. I think it's more of a little boy's fantasy. When I first heard of Johnny Depp being offered the role, I thought, "Yeah. I can see the Depp doing that. He could make that his own." Not so much for Green. What? Did he think he'd have a better shoo-in for the role because his last name happens to be The Riddler's favorite color?
  • Nick Venture
Frankly, I'm tired of all the talk of the sequel to The Dark Knight. I'm even more tired that people are saying The Riddler will be the villain. Increasingly, I get more agitated when I hear that people other than Michael C. Hall are projected to be The Riddler. If anyone should be a Batman villain it should be Michael C. Hall. Everyone knows it.
  • carg0
they give the role of 'the riddler' to that clown, the WB executives better move to another f*ing country...
  • d fost
Did Christopher Nolan say he hadn’t even started on the script? So why is this guy even thinking making comments like that? I guess somebody is in need of some random publicity.
  • jenn
just because you're in the terminator tv show and banging megan fox, it doesn't make you relevant enough to be in the nolan universe.

    go away, david silver!!
  • Jason Miller
Nolan likes young dudes to play his villains (see Scarecrow). But I'd love to see Jackie Earle Haley do it up. Maybe with his Watchmen geek creed he could snag the role..... http://www.lashorasperdidas.com/wp-content/uplo...
  • jimbo stewart
Ladies and gentlemen... This video should convince you that BAG is the perfect candidate for the warped, calculating persona of The Riddler...
  • J.D.
I want Tori Spelling as Catwoman.

Honestly, although I'm not a big fan of Jim Carey, he nailed that role dead on already.

Is the Batman villain universe really all that small?
  • Michael C. Hall would be awesome as the Riddler.

    How about Nick Cage?
  • danny bell
    ........

    nope

jonny depp please. someone with actual credibility, thankyou very much

or maybe someone else, instead of the riddler. maybe hush, or someone like that.

n catwoman......please lets not do that again. how would you go about writing a whole film about batman, who has effectively taken down every single mob in gotham, being challenged by a skinny jewel theif. i mean, c'mon!

    ;-D
  • Klint
So Depp is the 'fanboy favorite' now?

    that's news to me...
  • Bob
sure go ahead. if you want to guarantee that batman 3 will be worse than the dark knight go on right ahead and cast this retard is the riddler.

of course i am being sarcastic. nolan hasn't even started on the script yet and people are already throwing there names in. why not cast corey haim as the penguin while we are at it
  • Matt
He's not a bad actor but as of now he's too pretty boy and stiff in his acting for me to visualize him as the riddler. I could see many others fitting the role better.
    Sarah Connor Chronicles ftfw
  • akumi okuda
Christopher Nolan said he's likely not to use big name villains such as penguin, the riddler, et al, but instead to do something similar to the first film where he used Ras Al Ghul and the Scarecrow. In other words, Brian Austin is a fucking idiot.
  • Fred
Did you even read the piece? What a terribly misleading headline. He's not going to be in it. He - just like any actor - is talking aloud that he would LOVE to be the Riddler. Yeah, and i'm sure Tori Spelling would love to be Catwoman in Dark Knight 4, but just cause she says she would love to do so don't mean there's a chance in hell it'll happen. I suggest you revise this piece.
  • Palmer
No, just no. Hell they could give the part to Jim Carrey, doubt it. He might actually pull it off in the universe that is more grounded in reality that Christopher Nolan gave us. Though I wouldn't mind Johnny Depp....except he ruined Willy Wonka for me. That's unforgivable.
  • clever name
    f*ck 'em
  • Smith Smith
Although I doubt they would use the Riddler for the next Batman, I think Johnny Depp could pull it off.Especially if they cast him as some kind of obsessive compulsive outcast.
  • holmesy007
pay no attention to the man behind david silver.....
  • Joe
the fact that he is with Megan Fox makes me want to kill myself.
  • Joseph Ferrarelli
    Ya know what.
    I was down on Ledger.
I'm not going to make the same mistake twice.
  • BA
Let's get Topher Grace as the Riddler and keep the trilogy killing on track ...
  • I love your site but you hurt your credibility when you run this type of story, although I bet Nolan will go with a actor thats not a huge name for the villian in the next batman film. Lets hope Gary Coleman doesn't want in also.
  • Matma
David Tennant (Doctor Who) would be the best Riddler hands down.
  • Mr.Carl.Lee
    Here's my problem with this:

    1. Trying to top Heath's performance is going to end in dismal failure. It's better to find the essence of the character (like Heath did) and present it the best way possible.

    2. Riddler doesn't make the logical sense, given David's previous comments. Not wanting to use a household name, opt-ing for a lesser known villain.

I think the next chapter involves the media wanting to bring in Batman (Dent: One day, Batman will have to answer to the crimes that he has broken. Not to this madman, but to us / Batman: You'll hunt me, sick the dogs on me)

And honestly, I'd like to see Jim Carey reprise the role. I think he has enough depth as an actor to portray a twisted, dark humoured Riddler. Dare I Say it... there were moments in Schumacher's "Forever"
  • Fact
Face it. Let the track record show that whoever is cast in the next Bat flick is going to be English because Nolan is biased.
Presumedly if it's the Riddler, it wont be a big movie star. Johnny Depp is wrong on all sorts of levels. He sucks as an actor and you know it. All the Burton movies he does makes me want to slit my wrists Emo style. Blow is a good movie though. So is 21 Jump Street. But Depp as the Riddler? No thanks.
  • Marok
I'm still confused as to why everyone is assuming the riddler is going to be the next villain. Nolan doesn't even have a script yet and I thought he said he didn't want all the big named villains. Besides, most of them have already been done before and personally I'd like to see somebody new. (example, I've always wanted to see Harley Quinn on the big screen)

If the Riddler is to be the next villain, then I think Johnny Depp would do a great job but I'm sure there are actors out there who can pull it off.
  • Captain Awesome
    Hunter,

You need to stop posting this crap.
  • Dixxy
IMO, the only actors I can think of that have the guts and the creativity to craft their roles out of absolute bum fluff are Johnny Depp, Daniel Day-Lewis and Heath Ledger.

This is the very thing that Day-Lewis appreciated about Heath Ledger as an actor: his personal investment in the roles he played. I don't know if you could ever get him to sign on to a sequel of anything but if you could, DDL would be my first pick. He plays an excellent and very animated madman. Depp would be my second pick only because Heath's Joker was dark and terrifying - not the goofy type. I dont think this series needs goofy. I don't see Depp being as terrifying a Riddler as DDL can be. Depp would probably sell better though.

But personally, I would rather not see a Riddler in the next installment. And no, I dont have a better idea.
  • We all know that the next villian in the next batman is just going to be Kite Man anyway, so what's with all this Riddler junk?

Just kidding, but I'd love it if Nolan had put a villian that wasn't so reconizable in the role instead.
  • orange cinema
BAG is actually really good in the sarah connor chronicles, i couldn't believe it myself, but he is damn good. does that mean he's good enough to succeed ledger's joker? i'm not so sure about that, as there are several others that i feel would be much better.both micheal c hall and depp would be brilliant.

but the main thing i'd like to see is NOTHING for a while. i hope nolan takes his sweet time, does another film or two, and then closes out the series 3,4 even 5 years down the road. i cannot stand this current 'now now now!' trend in fantasy films and their sequels - patience and time always allow guys like the nolan's to give us the best possible product.
  • John
Why did you pick that pic its pretty bad. After the terminator tv show i think he can hold his own.
  • orange cinema
btw, catwoman is a TERRIBLE villian for this universe. in all non-sexist honesty, i felt that harley quinn was the only female villian who could work in what nolan has created, and now that ledger's gone, i don't see it working.

then again, i suppose nolan could make almost anything work.
  • Steve
Personally, I'm hoping to see someone from the Rogue's Gallery that we haven't seen on on-screen yet.

And, honestly, I think that's more likely to happen than Chris Nolan putting The Riddler in the next film or calling up Johnny Depp to play him.
  • Rofl, Tori Spelling as Bane. x)

@ Nick Venture: Exactly. They are SO not going to use the Riddler. Especially because of what Mr.Carl.Lee said: David Goyer flat-out said the next villain is going to be one that's never been used, because Batman's Rogues' Gallery is so big. It's just lame to keep using the same villains (albeit great villains) over and over again.

And if the TDK sequel is indeed Nolan's last Bat-film, then how lame would it be to end on that kind of note? IMO, they need a villain next who can challenge both Batman on an intellectual (like the Riddler would) and/or strategic (like Bane or omg, Hush) level AND a physical level. Because ha, we want to see Bats kick some serious butt and have it be a challenge---and the Riddler isn't exactly a physically formidable foe, heheh.
  • Err, I was using the Riddler and Bane as examples---although I think Bane would be awesome, Hush would be even cooler and more doable, I think.
  • Goobity
He's still in Hollywood? I figured he'd be an assistant manager @ Target by now.
  • Dixxy
    @Steph

The thought of Nolan picking Bane as Batman's next foe makes me squeeze my thighs together in anticipation -- its the right thing to do for so many reasons...

...except one: I think its too early to use Bane since Batman in-training (Batman Begins) just became Batman (TDK). I think he needs a tad more foundation in Gotham and maybe a solid love interest (Vicky Vale). Its also too early to get into all the crap that follows after Bane fvcks Batman up what with paralysis and all that.
  • shitgazer
i thought the freddie prinze show was pretty good...
  • Michael
I second the motion of Captain Awesome.

First, Christopher Nolan picks great actors. Not good actors -- great ones. He has had Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldham and Tom Wilkinson in minor roles. Further, he has a preference for non-American actors.

    Brian Austin Green? Please...

Second, if you've seen the Nolan/Batman story arc, they are remarkably coherent. Is the Riddler mentioned in Acts I or II? No. However, there is a reference to a "cat" in TDK which is curious.

Third, the Dark Knight clearly calls for a return of the Joker. The battle is unresolved. Would Nolan/WB have the courage to cast someone in the Ledger role? Rachel Dawes changed. I understand that Ledger/Joker is a different magnitude that Holmes/Gyllenhaal but they have guts. And, as has been said, "we live in a world where there are no rules". And not Depp with his soulful eyes. The role needs a crazed maniac -- Robert Downey (even with his comments about TDK).

Finally, the Nolan/Batman arc has been fairly faithful to the Batman canon. It could mean the return of Ra's al Ghul. And Angelina? Not Catwoman. Talia al Ghul.

But please... no more of these stories until Nolan says that he has a script.
  • charles
Jim was great as the Riddler. I bet no one will live up to him in that character. Jim did the best he could with the material he was given. He basically saved a good portion of the film.
  • @ Dixxy: I 100% agree. I'd love to see Bane---he's the guy who broke the freaking Bat, come on! But yeah, the actual breaking of the Bat (lol) wouldn't work, and I think Batman needs more establishing, too.

That's why I think Hush would work so much better. THAT would be cool. Ewan McGregor maybe? ;D

As for love interests ... I'm with the crowd on Selina Kyle.

@ Michael: Someone official dismissed the "cat" thing as a reference to Catwoman. It was just something Lucius said: no double meanings.

LOL: RDJ, traitor to Marvel. x)

    RDJ: "TDK was stupid---"
Nolan: "Hey, would you like to play the Riddler?"
    RDJ: "... YES, omg."

No Angelina. She's way too mainstream ... she's in so much stuff. She's gorgeous and a great actress, but ... no, I want someone else for either Selina or Talia.
  • Texas Terro
I think Woody Harrelson should be the riddler. Natural Born Killers was a crazy film. Day-Lewis would be a good pick too.
  • Dixxy
Woody Harrelson isn't british - Nolan doesn't talk to Americans. Nojustkidding.

I think this BAG thread was hijacked and turned into a a fan fantasy batman villain thread. So let's hear some more ideas and hope Nolan is listening (not like he really needs our advice though).
  • I actually hope they bring in a lesser known character. Not too fond of the Riddler or Two Face.

Also, I think it would be awesome if they centered the story around the Bruce Wayne/Batman struggle. I think that would bring the story full circle.

Batman's inner struggle is almost more interesting than focusing on the villans....

Plus....can we do without multiple villans next time around?

So...Batman vs. Gotham Police vs. crazed interesting villan we've never seen on screen....
