With the risk of sounding like a broken record, Slashfilm feels that Lost Boys: The Tribe was a lost cause. Even some of the people who worked and starred in the direct-to-DVD afterthought seem to agree. But it leaves open the question: do you reverse the damage done and attempt a real sequel—as rumored—or do you let the original speak for itself? From the sound of this new interview, Kiefer Sutherland still isn’t against the idea of revisiting Santa Carla.

Lost Boys was a massive part of my life, it still is,” Sutherland told Shock Til You Drop. “You can’t crap on that. And I’m not going to go out and do a cameo in a DVD release sequel. Why they never talked to Joel Schumacher in the past 15 years about doing a proper sequel… If you’re not going to embrace what you’re coming from in its original state…look, it was hard enough for me to do Young Guns 2 which I ended up thinking - because we were all better - was a better film.”

I recently examined how the entertaining Reign of Frogs comic books resurrected his David character, but Sutherland brought up a once proposed sequel idea—actually, a prequel—that we’ve never heard before. And what’s cool about it is that it could theoretically still work today. Sutherland says Joel Schumacher suggested a film focusing on David as a mortal, before he turned into an evergreen vampire. A major plot point would have been the earthquake that birthed the vampire clan’s cavern/Jim Morrison shrine. Chalk it up to trivia like The Lost Girls idea, but if Warner Bros. ever wanted to fund the type of worthy sequel fans crave, Sutherland, who’s revisiting the horror genre in Mirrors, probably would be interested.

Discuss: What do you think of the prequel idea? Do you think a better Lost Boys sequel will ever happen based on the anger at The Tribe?

    I agree...

He's to old looking to do a prequel but a REAL sequel would be excellent

    @ kingdarius

I agree. A REAL sequel would be much better than the proposed prequel idea. However, why the prequel could still theoretically work is that Sutherland's character could be any age in it. As a mortal, his character could even battle other vampires in Santa Carla before becoming one. The filmmakers could even set it in the '70s rather than than the '80s. Once Sutherland's David became a vampire, he would revert back to his 20s, his prime, which is possible with special effects. I see your point, just geeking out.

    Is 'FO' Hunter's new catchphrase?
  • 790
I don't even remember what happens in the original,,,
Would rather see Keifer work on something in the Sci-Fi realm.

"As a mortal, his character could even battle other vampires in Santa Carla before becoming one."

I'm glad you're not writing movies, Hunter. lol

    @ CA

It's no different from Michael fighting the vampires in Lost Boys and then becoming one of them.

    Oh, but I am.
  • Captain Awesome
Kiefer's origin shouls resemble that of meeting an older gay gentleman with horrible fashion sense and he turns him by use of a "bloody mary".

Throw in kids singing and you have a hit.

    @CA

You should have just said Lost Boys: Miami.
  • Captain Awesome
+ maracas and Crockett & Tubbs suits?
  • Ghost
What's with the lame headlines using FO when it obviously isn't?!
  • K Murdah
The original Lost Boys was just a shitty movie and I'm guessing the sequel is worse. Why the hell does hollywood bother churning out piss poor products?
  • Captain Awesome
    Ghost,

    You need to FO, son!

I am a huge Keifer Sutherland and Lost Boys fan, but Keifer in a Lost Boys prequel is just dumb. You can't have an actor play the same role 20 years later of a character that never ages. Even if you make it a prequel, it don't think you can just explain it away by sayin he gets younger when he turns into a vampire. Michael didn't turn younger when he turned into a Vampire. Max was older as a vampire.

I would actually (and I can't believe I am about to write this) see another sequel with the two Coreys if they actually made something halfway decent rather than a prequel with Keifer.
  • Rob
P.S. How are they going to get around Edward Hermann being in his sixties when he was in his forties when the first movie came out. Since Max sired David, wouldn't Max have to be in a prequel movie?
  • Ghost
    @ Captain Awesome

at least the way you're using it makes sense!

I belong to an official group that's against any remake of The Lost Boys. It's important to Santa Cruz (Carla) too!!!
  • Why Do I Care??!!
I'm not against a prequel as it was described and Hunter Stephenson brings a good point. Keeping David mortal 80 minutes of the (no doubt) 90-95 minute flick is the way to go. As Far as Max goes well, just find someone else to fill those sneakers. But, Im pretty sure he looks close to the same.

Anyone who continues to see Friday The 13th(s) and A Nightmare on Elm St(s) (which I do and always will) know that these types of issues make no diff.

In the end, if it's made? I'll go see it.

Personaly, ive always wanted to see where david came from before he was a vampire, and maube even see how where and when the others were turned into vampires aswell.. either way i would like to see keifer come back as david, old young or any age
  • TheLostBoys!
I don't no about a prequel. I mean the first Lost boys was great, but now that they have all aged i mean...I don't think it's a good idea. I mean Kiefer Sutherland was hot in his early 20's. But they can't make another one when he is 43. He was hot in his 20's, but now, NO. Don't make the prequel! That's embarrassing to those poor actors! :(
  • TheLostBoys!
I am also a huge Kiefer Sutherland fan. And I just ordered The lost boys part 1 from best buy. But Plz say not a prequel! U can't make another one, when they aren't supposed to age. He was 21 when they made The Lost Boys. Now he is 43. I am with Rob. How will they get around with Edward Herrmann? That man is in his late 60's early 70's! That's just ridiculous. :(
