I remember when I first read that Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker and how I reacted totally against it...it's kind of the same way I reacted when I heard he was cast as the Prince of Persia.

Although I don't think he will turn in a performance like Heath did and surprise me as much, I will have to wait and see on this one.

It looks like they're basing him off the character design found in the second and third games. Not the first POP character design like in the article photo.

This picture is full of fail IMO. Iran very well may attack us over this movie.

The costume is more like the one from Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. That's not like Sands of Time, i thought they wanted the movie to be more like SoT.

Lose the wig, and the Jake. Replace with Viggo Mortensen's Aragorn. Or someone of actual Arab descent.

Jake Gyllenhaal really looks like he's from Persia, I mean come on the dude pulls of the whole Iranian look very well... The white skin was a great choice, when I think middle eastern I immediately think pale white. Way to go!

Hopefully we'll get another timeless classic like The Scorpion King out of this project.

Persians is not Arabs!! Please educate yourselves. Persians = modern day Iranians. They speak Persian, not Arabic. Different culture. Not all Muslims and middle easterners are Arabs. Please, in the interest that the west will not continue to be hated for our total ignorance, learn a few basic facts.

I'm not easily offended, but this is fucking ridiculous. Rather than cast someone who is middle eastern, you cast someone who is not only really white, but also has entirely the wrong build? I know there are only two or three middle eastern actors who you could use, but why not go for an unknown? I hate to leap to conclusions, but that sort of decision does not bode well for the movie. I imagine it will not be faithful to the source material at all, and end up being a bland action movie.

...Wow, you people are bloody harsh on this. I think the costume looks perfectly fine, and I prefer the darker story lines (and gameplay) of the sequels to that of the original. I think we all need to calm the hate machine down a bit. Jake has proved himself a more then competant actor and I think he's perfectly capable of pulling off this role. The main concern should be for the plot/action elements which are obviously not on display here.

Plus, for all we know he was only half through application of make up/costume in that shot. Can we at least wait for a real production photo before we smash this thing into tiny little bits?

Well to be fair

This photo isn't taken while shooting. From the looks of it the guy looks like he's between breaks or something. So this photo for the most part shows off what looks like "part" of the costume, if anything.

I'm sure it looks better when he's actually in front of the camera and all set to go. The dude is fucking ripped though. And he is a good actor. So for now I can wait for actual footage of him as the Prince.
