I like to think that, as adults/college students now, we have matured past the point of exacting physical retaliation upon someone whom we don't like simply because of the way they look or the things they like to do.

Much like a bully fighting a "nerd".

That being said, if someone came to my party dressed as Racer X on Halloween, I would punch him right in the solar plexus and probably set him on fire.

I feel like it would be more apropos to give Racer X some money rather than a sound beating -- his movie didn't really do so well.

Raver are running around in retarded trousers with extremely colourful shirts or other stuff. Leather is usually not their thing.

ii actually really liked speed racer. i just loved the way it was filmed and visual style. it looked purdy.

and i was in new york in may for a fieldtrip and i was in the toys r us in times square and they have a replica of the Mach 5, the costume Emile Hirsch(sp?) used in the final race, Christina Ricci's Trixie costume, and Mathew Fox's Racer X costume on dispaly in glass cases.

it was pretty cool.

then the next day i went to the MET and they had christopher reeve's clark kent and superman costume's, spidey's red and black costume's, the dark knight suit, and iron man's mark II armor. there was more, but i forgot.

kinda got off topic, but it was a cool two days.

Are you suggesting that the people who dress up at Comic-Con as obscure characters should be mocked? If someone had worn this costume to the convention, I'm sure they would fit in perfectly.

Is the "LOL" part of this post based on the fact that not many people saw/enjoyed this movie? Is it ridiculous to think that anyone would ever like this character enough to wear such a costume?

If anything, this is a well-made costume. It looks like they used a suitable material as opposed to a cheaper cloth. In addition, I'm surprised they managed to find a model that looks so much like Matthew Fox.

I gotta say, this is the first "LOL" post that didn't seem immediately funny to me. If anything, it's kind of off-putting. Speed Racer has a large following, even if you didn't like it.

It seems to me that the point of this post is somewhere along the lines of, "These geeks are stupid for being passionate about something that isn't popular." And seeing as how this is a blog entirely devoted to film news, I find that pretty confusing.

How is owning a fake Hoverboard from Back to the Future any less "LOL" worthy than this costume? Is it because Back to the Future is more popular and acceptable to mainstream audiences?

Dan, It's because if a grown man was wearing this costume, he would look like a fool much the same way he would if he were to dress as pikachu, or inuyasha, or Robin, the boy wonder.. You wasted far too much of your time typing out that response.

I think your forgetting that the people who dress up for Comic Con usually put hours/days into their costumes, dedicating themselves, and actually ARE IN CHARACTOR when they cosplay. On the other hand, anyone who gets this will have bought it at WalMart for $10. Therefore, the quality is crap and whoever wears it will look like a freaking idiot. Cosplaying takes dedication and passion. Wearing this... not so much. Plus, the picture is really, really funny.

when it's all said and done, if Racer X's date looks anything like Christina Ricci, the dude gets the last laugh.

Glad it's only ten bucks. I was going to suggest you could get the same look with a couple garbage bags and a roll of duct tape but that'd be too much work.
