The Los Angeles Times caught up with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who admitted that he is puzzled and still not yet sold on Terminator Salvation after he was given a private screening of the comic con sizzle reel by the producers:

“I’ve seen very little footage so I don’t really have a feel for it. I hope they do well, and I hope it is a huge hit. I do hope it creates a spectacle on the screen. That is what James Cameron created,” Arnold said. “I still don’t know how it will play out with this one. They showed me some footage, but I don’t have a feel for the movie. I didn’t see enough. I wasn’t sure who the Terminator was. I don’t know if there is one or if he’s the star or the hero. These are the things that determine the success and how the strong the movie will be.”

I can understand Arnold’s hesitation, as the battle-lines have not yet really been drawn in the early completed footage from the film. I am surprised that he didn’t come out of the screening with a good impression. I mean, at face value, it looks much better than Terminator 3, but, oh wait… Arnold was involved in that one. But for me, the bigger question is… why did producers travel to Sacramento to screen early footage to the Govenator? Are they still trying to convince Arnold to film a cameo? Or were they hoping to get Arnold to film an endorsement for Comic Con? I seriously doubt they went to have for his opinion… they were definitely looking for some kind of public endorsement.

I told the producer when I saw him "Ice to meet you"

    Oh Arnold

He has a point. What made the other films interesting was the LIMITED amount of cast members. A woman, her son, one or two machines.

This film looks to have a LARGE cast and possibly DOZENS of terminators.

With such a large ensemble, it will be difficult to focus on the human element.

Just because Arnold is in movies doesn't mean he knows at all what a good one looks like. I've never found the opinion of actors, either about their own films or about the films of others, to be worth two shits. They are either personally invested in the success, or jealous of the success of others, and therefore cannot be trusted.
  • Oh Blair
Probably because the T-100 doesn't look like him.

I wonder if he'll be in either terminator movie

i just want him to say, "ill be bak" lol

Yes, they are trying to convince Ah-nold to film a cameo.

But the governator already refused a part, fearing it would hurt his political career.

So why is he bitching about the flick?

Ah-nold...you don't want to be in it, but you act all upset that you're not in it?

    Asshole.

I actually see where he's coming from. The Terminator has been front and center in not only the three movies but the TV show. You watch any promo piece and you go "ok, so that's the Terminator and he/she is good/bad." You watch this footage and you don't get a sense of who they are fighting, why and just who exactly is the titular Terminator in this installment. It's actually a good point. Obviously we know what's going on because we follow movie news and know the plots of movies before they're even done being scripted. Your average moviegoer would probably be left with a "what's that all about?" impression after watching the teaser.
  • It's a teaser to a film that's 50% completed with no CGI implemented. Things will get cleared up the more they put into it.
  • Screw Arnold. I say this movie needs Steven Segal.

"I hope they do well, and I hope it is a huge hit. I do hope it creates a spectacle on the screen" Haha you know I kept hearing Arnold's voice as I read this article.. hilarious.
  • It will be cool if Arnold is in the 4th movie, it doesn´t make sense without him. Just a little shot, that´s it. We want to see the old terminator back. And he should be grateful of the main character that made him famous. Honor it, Arnold.
Still, the Terminator series ( whithout him ) is cool, and Christian Bale is one of the coolest actors right now.
  • Doonesbury
he's fooling us all. he's already in it and it's the big surprise
  • Danno
You know, in the original Terminator there was a precursor to Arnold - a generic looking thing wielding and infeasibly large pulse rifle. So who cares what Arno thinks, the damn johnny-come-lately? Not me, oh no.
  • Captain Awesome
    Danno,

That wasn't the T-800. Those were the HK's that Reese spoke of during his childhood. That guy was in the film for all of what? 30 seconds?
  • Abraham
hey, in what minute or what scene arnold schwarzenegger appears in the movie?????
  • Happy_Evil_Dude
Dude, they don't need to convince Arnold, he already publicly stated he'd be happy to be in it if they asked him. And whether or not it looks better than T3 is up to personal opinion, and I don't think it does for now. T3 was badass and had a kickass story even though the T-X was weak as hell (I don't think anyone can top Robert Patrick anyway). All I saw of T4 is a trailer with a lot of static in it, a couple of explosions and a flying robot at the end. That being said I didn't see the comic-con footage so we'll see. I'm also curious as to what James Cameron thinks of said footage, did he get a private show too?

It sounds like a pretty reasonable critique of what is being shown thus far. A film can have a lot of cool T-whatevers, but if the story and plot are muddled in the spectacle, You will get a pretty, yet unsatisfying film. The audience needs a few strong characters that they can root for, grounding the story and emotions. That is the hard part.

With JNolan doing the writing, You would hope that the story and characters are strong, but it's hard to get a take on that based on the footage being shown.
  • orange cinema
i don't see anything he said as negative. just that its not finished and he hopes it does well.
  • krackajap
Are we still basing this on the small amount of footage shown in the teaser trailer or is there more footage available that I'm unaware of?

Oh Blair, dude trust me, Kickenger will blow you away as the famous model 101.

    Aegahst, GET DOWN !!!

    Bloaqsat, LOL.

Doonesbury, if that's the big surprise at the end,, this film won't do it for me. Arnolds too old at this point.

Happy_Evil_dude, Arnold actually said that if they filmed T4, in California he would do the film. Call it terminal conflict of interest.
Totally agree with your Robert Patrick, but (keanu reeves) Waoh,,,, on the TX !
The TX was superior. And I also loved T3, ...... ,!!!! I make no excuse for my love of T3 ,,,, ;-p

Gocitizen you nailed the execution aspect on this. :-)

Captain Awesome's allways got my back on Terminator facts.

I love you charles. Not in a gay way.

They could easily have Arnold back for anyone of the new Terminator Movies coming. I mean all you have to do is sort of an Alien thing in which Henrickson was in fact building the robot doctors after his looks. I mean putting him in at some form of human leader at first of Cybernet that eventually kills off the human to be just robots and they use Arnold as a kind of prototype on what is suppose to be the secret weapon for Cybernet. It could be done people. Not sure if I am getting across what I am trying to say but it is possible. Would only have to be a small cameo, maybe a flashback sequence or something of John Conner telling people what happened and to as why they started using human skin to infiltrate the human resistance. Easily solved.... Anthony

I have seen terminator salvation. it is intresting. for people that havent seen the movie that may be intrested, arnold made a short apperance at skynet in short battle against john conner. it only looks like a remake of his body from the other movies. surprised to see him.
