Howard Stern has hired Alex Winter, best known as Bill from Bill & Ted, to pen a remake of the 1979 cult film Rock ‘n’ Roll High School. The original Roger Corman-produced musical comedy told the story of a group of rebellious students take over a high school with the help of The Ramones. Winter has recently transitioned into a filmmaker, but it is unclear if he will helm the project, if greenlit. Winter made his feature directorial debut with the 1993 cult classic Freaked. Most recently, Winter directed the Ben 10: Race Against Time television movie.

The project is part of a set of remakes which Stern acquired in 2002, the other being a remake of the teen comedy Porky’s. Stern had said that he was leaning more towards using an established rock group for the upcoming remake, rather than inventing or choosing an unknown band for the film. I think this project will hinge on the musical talent, as the music was such a huge part of the original film. It might also be hard to incorporate a real rock band without it coming off as super cheesy.

this movie could be good depending on the band they get
I think the only band to do his movie justice would be guitar wolf

I think alex winter played bill.

    Baba Booey! Baba Booey!
  • "It might also be hard to incorporate a real rock band without it coming off as super cheesy." Dude, have you seen the original movie? It's the cardboard cheese factor of the Ramones juxtapostioned with the over the top teen footage that makes it what it is.
  • joeday: I agree... but the film worked in the age of cheese - the 1980's, will that kind of thing work it contemporary cinema?
  • There would be some serious difficulty finding a band as good to use for both in-film performance and soundtrack use.

For Chrissakes, they'd probably get the Jonas Brothers or some half-assed pop "band".

they seriously cant remake this movie...
the original is not only a classic but one of my favorties (if not favorite).
that movie was striclty based on the time we where living in. everybody knew the ramones and everybody liked them, for the most part. so if they remake it based on the times now it will be nothing close to a remake. they would probably get some stupid band liek fall out boy or something. and i agree with joeydayz.... its the cheesiest of the cheesy. the acting on the ramones behalf is horrible, but thats what makes that film so great. the cheese factor.
    "hey pizza! i want some!"
"no pizza joey, more riboflavin! hahaha
    on another note:
what ever happen with the ramones biopic? i know the rights to a book about were bought by a tv producer... but that was almost two years ago?! WTF FTW
  • zinkywinks
i highly doubt howard stern would hire the jonas brothers for anything
  • They should only do this movie if they use Nickelback.

And then once it comes to dvd I can but it and place it in its rightful place in my house: the garbage can.

  • Howard Stern looks like Joey Ramone.

    @kyleelyk

Uh... I hope you know that the Ramones were really more of a cult band when they were around and never had the popularity that was seen in the movie when they were still together. It was only after they stopped playing together that they were recognized for their influence and achieved mainstream success.
  • fakename311
The best way to do this would be to use a band that is subversively cheesy like a modern day DEVO, or a group that is ridiculously offensive like Mindless Self Indulgence.
  • Pete
There is no young band today that can hold the Ramones jock. Period. The only thing Stern can do is make a boobfest of the lowest common denominator. This will be a rip off of every teen B movie of the last ten years. Look for a straight to vid American Pie rip-off, chug, chug, chug!!! It will make son of the beach look like friggin shakespeare.

Oh, Winter did a movie of Ben10...gee, then I guess he qualifies to make more movies. :/ I guess we will just have to see how this is fleshed out. Of all the connections Howard has, how in the heck did he settle on Winter? This has potential to go either way.
  • oh my god. Still more stupid remakes.

Oh yeahhh, let's put Fall Out Boy in this remake and call it "punk rawwwkkkk!!!"

i hate posers and i hate remakes.
  • milhouse
I got a great idea for the remake. You can get Corey Feldman and make a fake band centered around him. Just call the band Wombat Vengeance and you got a movie.

-sigh- I am on the fence and leaning towards the "this sucks" side.

I would recomend "The Jesus Twins" but I heard they broke up. (Anyone remember them?).

I'd sure go see a sequel to "Private Parts" , but this is a stupid idea. Why do this? I really think Howard is kinda dumb when it comes to his current projects. He also wants to remake "Porkys".

Never understood the reason the Ramones were popular. (IMO) their music was steaming crap with peanuts.

    Fly me with balloons ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Oh, good. Another crap remake...sigh.
  • blackfrancis789
    seriously bad idea.

however, the only way this may have any chance of working is doing a campy remake using me first and the gimmie gimmies.

    or not.
