Comic Con: Lost Info Revealed

Unlike the Heroes panel presentation, where they delivered in full by bringing out the entire cast and airing the season premiere, the only good thing to come out of the Lost panel was a sampling of interesting tidbits and one quick clip.

The brief footage featured everybody’s favorite Asian Dharma doctor, this time introducing himself as Dr. Marvin Candle. Instead of the usual scratched up black-and-white recording, the video was being shot digitally with Marvin sitting on a couch. He briefly starts off with his normal spiel, but quickly gives up and states there’s no point in playing games anymore. He admits his name is Pierre Chang, and tells the people watching that they should be receiving his message roughly thirty years in the future. His message is simple: “It’s imperative that the Dharma Initiative be reconstituted.”

Before this clip was shown though, writer/creator Damon Lindelof and writer Carlton Cuse opened up the floor to a pretty satisfying Q&A session, yielding just the right amount of answers to get our minds puzzling over season five.

Did the island move when the hatch imploded and the sky turned purple? No.

Jin will still be on the show in some form. You haven’t seen the last of these characters. “Dead is a relative term.”

Rousseau’s story will be shown this year.

Flashbacks? Flashforwards? How are they gonna do it? “There will still be flashbacks, but we’re doing something a little different. We’re mixing it up. When season five starts, you’re not gonna know when or where you are.” It’s all about “the most compelling way to tell the story.”

Daniel Faraday’s journal that shows what’s going to happen in the future will feature prominently in this next season.

How old is Richard Alpert, and how many toes does he have? “He is quite old. Obviously we have hinted before about time on the island…” This will remain a mystery through the season. And yes, “You will see him barefoot in the very near future.”

Kate will indeed see Sawyer again (big surprise, right?).

Vincent the dog is still doing well, and will appear in season five. It’s safe to say he will make it to the end of the show.

  • Dammit they make us wait so long, but well worth it.

For all my complaining at Heroes, then I come over here and gush about LOST, a show that does nothing BUT jump sharks. Did you see that season finale?! But, at least it has some good writing, great acting, and compelling stories. I'm excited. Also heard that they're not quite done with Mr Ecko, which makes me a very happy man.
  • beakmans balls
Yeah I got tired of being jerked around by the twists and stuff. Call me when the last episode airs.
  • Jerris Beutler's Day On
This show is still on the air?????
  • Mike
Yes.. and for 2 more seasons!
  • Jerris Beutler's Day On
Yikes. Are they competing with American idol for most beaten horse?
  • Alan Geiss
You are awesome for posting this.
  • dude
Still the best show on air!
  • DFaraday
most beaten horse? are you kidding...this show is one of the most compelling dramas on television. everything about this last season was incredible
  • orange cinema
they could have sent Vincent to conduct the panel and it would be better than anything Heroes could come up with.
  • Tendrillar
Lost is melodramatic, overly convoluted and written as it's shot. They say they know where their going with it, but do they really? I think they know as much as most of us at this point. Their just jerking themselves off.
  • Alan Geiss
    @ DFaraday

I totally agree man. LOST is so good, anyone that really loves the show doesnt bitch about anything in it. They just enjoy every second of it.
  • Jerris Beutler's Day On
Note to the Lost fans: Get cable
  • orange cinema
i have cable, and the only show that competes with lost is dexter. its the short attention span & quick fix crowd that don't dig lost. ya'll can keep yer formulaic films, october saw releases, and yer every 20 minute reveals. i'll stick with something that takes its time getting to the goods.
  • film god
Love lost. The next season is gonna be a lot of setting up for the final season... but i hope they can do it as compelling season 4 was.
  • Salmonbot
It really baffles me how anyone can complain about lost and then praise heroes. Heroes was unbearably cheesy from very beginning of episode one where it had the episode title appear on screen in quotation marks like some kind of 80s cartoon. And it only got worse when the actors started talking.
  • Ah jeez here we go again, now I'm chompin at the bit for the next season. I hate waiting.
  • Jerris Beutler's Day On
"have cable, and the only show that competes with lost is dexter. its the short attention span & quick fix crowd that yadda, yadda......."

Cable pwns all. X-files reruns are a million times more entertaining than watching new episodes of Lost.
  • Greyson
Lost re-runs are a million times more entertaining than any "Jerris Beutler's Day Off comments.
  • fex
That's pure conjecture. I like X-files don't get me wrong. I'd like to go back and watch it consecutively. But I'm glad you've discovered cable though! It's been out for a minute. Bet your mind was blown to discover the internet.
  • This is ridiculous. Don't like it, don't watch it. Credible fans don't diss other shows because they're not Lost or House or Dexter or whatever. You like it, enjoy it and leave it at that.

As for being written on the fly, the was only season 3, and only for a handful of episodes. Shows do it every now and then. Strikes certainly don't help either.
  • jfive
LOST = best show ever!! cant wait for the new season to start
  • O
Lost is the greatest show on TV right now.
  • fanboy d
Unlike the Heroes panel presentation, the Lost panel was about a good tv show
  • The clip described by Sir Adam Quigley is on youtube by now:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puOBcLwcT5c

    Exactly like described.
    :)
  • LOST is an awesome show but you do need tremendous fanboy stamina to keep up with it. It's akin to reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.
