At this morning’s Terminator Salvation panel featuring McG and the cast of the film, the director unveiled several minutes of footage from the upcoming film. McG mentioned that filming is only 50% complete and that no CGI had been added yet.

The footage opens with a descending overhead shot of John Connor (Christian Bale), barely emerging from the scene of a helicopter crash. “Are there any survivors?” a cackling radio voice asks? “One,” Bale says quietly, then again, shouting, for emphasis. He walks off into the distance, as we begin to hear Bale’s dialogue in the film.

The rest of the trailer takes place in various places in 2018, when Earth has become a bombed out, post-apocalyptic hellscape after the rise of Skynet. Amongst other scenes, we see a face to face confrontation between Connor and Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), in which Bale threateningly declares, “If I let you down, you’ll kill everyone in this room,” and then later, “You tried killing my mother. You killed my father. You will not kill me.”

A young Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) delivers the “Come with me if you want to live” line and we see several obscured shots of T-600s, hideous combinations of metal and rubbery flesh. A topless (but covered by her hands) Blair Williams, played by Moon Bloodgood, shares a poignant look with Wright. At one point in the trailer, Connor and Reese share a meaningful exchange. Various action shots, full of shooting, running, and massive explosions are concluded by a shot of Bale screaming at the close sight of a metal cyborg hand.

As the trailer ended and the title card faded onto the screen, the audience went wild. I personally was not expecting to be impressed, but the trailer actually left me wanting more(!). The complete lack of CGI and practical effects was, as always, refreshing in this day and age of Hollywood action blockbusters. More interestingly, McG is an extremely engaging panel presence, and worked very hard to assuage fanboy fears that this film would be a bastardization. I’m not completely sold on the film yet, but the footage was a great start and certainly the presence of Bale played no small part in that.

McG also announced that a Salvation trailer would be attached to this fall’s Quantum of Solace, so you can catch some more footage then and decide for yourselves what to think.

ARG! I hate being on the east coast. We only have the NY comic con. Nothing like SD CC. I wish I was there. Can't wait

    Now this sounds promising!
    Bale kicks ass.
Also with confirmation that Jonathan Nolan was the lead writter on this, I am becoming optimistic.

Would be a bastardizatIon or not ? I don't get you on that David?

I'm all for this film , as long as they don't kill Connor, and then use his skin on a T-800 from 2004 to keep his image "alive". That's the lamest thing I've ever heard.

Nobodys mentioned the reason they took "The future begins" out of the title.

Let's not forget this is still a PG-13 film, and if Rated R that girl wouldn't have had her hands covering her breasts.

They're trying super hard to make it super good to make up for the fact they have McG. Wouldn't it have just been a lot easier to get a good director?

Here's hoping he doesn't fuck it up like he's trying so hard not to.
  • I can't really see any reason not to like this. Good franchise, always loved the story about killing machines from the future filled with apocalyptic tomfoolery.
  • Superman
Terminator 3 would look just as awesome in clip form. 2 hours worth of movie though? hmmm

T3 was the 3rd best Terminator film hands down!!!!! :-)
  • Mr. Bojangles
I wish I could have seen that footage, because the description of it alone sounds awesome.

"Terminator Salvation Footage Wows Skeptics With Badassery"

You are too easily hyped. where was all of that enthusiasm when Silent Bob was chatting with you, Dave? Were you the one who had to admit in shame that he was like 1 yrs old when Burton's Batman was released. You could almost hear the look of absolute disgust on smith's face. Was very entertaining.

Anyway, I'm sure that the 20 second quick paced montage of clips was truly excellent. But a little early to implore phrases such as "badassery"? Yeah? Yeah.
  • krackajap
Yes Jerris, cause everyone knows we have absolute control over when we're born. Just stfu and get out of here.
  • Chimaera
    What Mr. Bojangles said :)

  • andy
    WHO THE FUCK IS MCG?
  • .m
kinda reminds me charlie's angel 2 trailer..

But, I willing to give mcG a second chance.
Prove us skeptics that we are wrong.
  • Jmoney
i really think if this guy didnt use the name McG i would feel a lot better about this movie
  • How does this footage wow the skeptics? Chances are the skeptics didn't fly all the way to San Diego. More likely people who were more than inclined to be wowed were wowed by the footage. The first time I meet someone at a convention who is not a fanboy/fangirl will be the day hell freezes over. Conventioners are easy to please.
