Judging from the number of heads that explode, collapse and squirt in this new Comic Con footage for Punisher: War Zone, I imagine these luminaries attending a press screening: Rambo, Ricki-Oh, Lucio Fulci and the “Crushing Your Head” guy from Kids in the Hall. When the first trailer hit and underwhelmed fans, director Lexi Alexander responded with…

“I’ve been told that you can’t even show heads blowing up in red-band trailers. I hope that’s not true because that would suck. It’s weird to see Castle shoot all those bullets and not see the thugs who are catching them. That’s the best fucking part about it!!!”

Well, she certainly got her sick wish. The Lionsgate/Marvel film opens in December and looks like a pulsing guilty pleasure, unless you were expecting The Dark Knight via Frank Castle. Some guy down below will declare, “Aim higher!” And by aim higher, he means this film’s rival, a PG-13 Max Payne. So be it.

Warning: This footage is backed by the worst song I have ever heard. I recommend turning down your speakers and playing Misfits, Sabbath, Pissed Jeans, John Mayer anything but this. Also, the grindhousey faux-scratches are the size of dead twigs in a storm. Totally unnecessary.

looks pretty fucking cool but thumbs down for the bro music
  • Steelo
well it's more in tune with the character
  • Captain Awesome
Do they use that retared, "When The Bodies Hit The Floor" track?

    Please say they do.
  • Aqualeo
It still looks bad... the chair in the face looks so fake
  • jimbo stewart
    Looks pretty fucking stupid.

I'll take the Dolph Lundgren movie over this shit any day of the week.
  • Let Down
After The Dark Knight this looks horrible. I love the Punisher. Great revenge background story with heartache, yet a sense of darkness and this seems to be missing something. Just seems like random violence scenes thrown together.
  • orange cinema
this looks fucking STUPID. jigsaw looks like a roger corman b-movie muppet - and not in a cool way.

epic fail, and i'll say this again: there are some 'superheroes/comics' that simply will not take. but by all means, keep pumpin em out.
  • orange cinema
    @ let down

excellent point about comic book films existing in the wake of TDK. we've seen what they can strive for, and even something as well crafted as ironman, is just a routine exercise in light pg-13 formulaic costumed fun.
  • cogezek
Looks pretty ballin. Maybe some Mastodon instead of that "other metal". Into the blackhoooooole surchin for crystooooohls amirite?
  • film god
The Exorcist music gave it a surreal type of emotion that mixed well with all the fucked up carnage... and it sold me. The thing takes has no apologies and looks like it wil be fucking intense action fun. It looks just like a corman movie- in a good way. On super steroids because they know audiences want pedal to the metal high octane action, in the same vein as Wanted this will kick major ass.

The first punisher being a craptastic fart that came out as Kill Bill vo2's shadow, this is a reboot to get it right (ie: make money).. Expect adrenaline and action. I never thought i'd say this but I'm excited.

btw, i've never read the comics and thought the first movie sucked.
  • YoungZe
The music is really annoying. :?
  • Captain Awesome
    film god,

The first Punisher film would be the Dolph Lundgren one ;)
  • jordan2099
Okay people a little reality check here:

Not every comic movie is going to be or needs to be The Dark Knight. The Punisher a comic I have read since the 80's is not high art, its a B-Movie. Its a hyper violent fun B-Movie.

What the Dark Knight showed people was nothing new, I'm sorry it was rad, but I remember everyone shitting their pants about how Spiderman 2 elevated comic book films. Their will always be something on the horizon that will be better.

I hope to god that studios do not start trying to elevate every comic adaptation into a fucking award winner.

Honestly put the metal in it, get the body count high. The Punisher is Rambo not Shaekspear.
  • Daredevil
this looks fucking awfull its so stupid it does not feel like a superhero movie

c'mon marvel after hulk and iron man we expect much better than this crap
  • joshmayhood
Good tip on turning the music off. Shit, even a classical composition would've been cooler than whatever crap band that was. I whoever wrote that track has a goatee and chain wallet on as I type this.

Trailer looks whatever...good violence it seems. I agree, Punisher aint Shakespere. This is about what we should expect.
  • joshmayhood
    *I bet...
  • Captain Awesome
    Come on guys,

A good Punisher film was already made. Check out "Man on Fire".
  • Jordan2099
@ Daredevil. Have you read a Punisher comic? Explain to me when he's depicted as a hero and not a vigilante?

    He kills everyone.

Did you read Civil War? Was anyone thrilled to have Castle along? He's a nut job, not a hero. Remember when he beat Daredevil up and tied the gun to his hand? Yeah that wasn't heroic. Remember when he used Spidey as a human shield to protect himself from the Russian and Spidey got beaten half to death?

    Yeah not heroic.

You should change your screen name to Archie, because that's about where you're at for understanding comics.
  • StarBlazer101
Well at least the guy looks like Frank Castle.
  • -T-
What's the name of that song? Anybody know?
  • I'm there, exploding heads and all.
  • Furthermore, I don't want a serious Punisher movie on par with TDK. I want over the top. I want Frank hanging from a ceiling shooting baddies. All the haters, and yes, there will be haters, can just go stroke it to TDK again if that's what they want.
  • Joe
hmm, this actually was better with pissed jeans playing
  • Pete
This trailer was pretty badass. This movie isn't going to be an artsy movie. It's supposed to be Punisher just fucking shit up. If it was trying to be as dramatic as TDK, it wouldn't be good. I actually kind of liked the Tom Jane version. While I've never seen this dude in anything(he's in ROME on HBO, but I've never watched it), it can't be that hard to pull off the Punisher(Dolph Lundgren excluded.)
  • Mayroth
    Jigsaw looks weird.

A chair to the face? Honestly.

And Frank punched a guy in the face and his hand went through his face. Wtf??

But the fat guy that got his head blown off was sweet.
  • junior
This looks like it could be the DEAD-ALIVE of crime films but I'm not really getting the vibe that this is supposed to be funny. Man on Fire had the perfect tone if not the story for the Punisher and I would have loved for this story to be treated like that.

    Oh well...
  • Mr. Bojangles
I'm still not sure about this film.
The violence looks over-the-top (which works for me and the comics), but of the crappy new metal is played throughout the whole movie, it'll worsen the experience.
  • Deez
To me, the punisher is a mindless vigilante who kills everyone he feels falls on the wrong side of justice. The character himself is not very deep. "I'm a marine, my family dies, time to travel the globe killing the mafia." Nu-metal played over violent, ball-busting action scenes is about all one can expect. Like Will said above, if you want plot, story, drama, acting, watch TDK again. For mindless vigilante violence, see Punisher. Its pretty simple, folks. I, for one, enjoy a good action flick and this looks like it will fit the bill.
  • Alan Geiss
@ Captain Awesome I would have prefered "let the bodies hit the floor" 10 times more than that shitty song. This looks horrible, a waste of money, waste of movie at the theaters.

@ Jordan2099 Let's have a reality check for you buddy. The Dark Knight is a work of art. It's way better than spiderman 2 and I think it's going to be really hard to top it off. It was so much more than a superhero movie. I agree not every film has to be an award winner but dude nobody wants to be responsible for a terrible movie. I mean, people need to try lets get real here. This movie looks terrible. I see nothing interesting about it.
  • YoungZe
I would love to know what Chris Nolan's Punisher would look like. o_O
  • YoungZe
@Deez: Sheesh, you have no idea what you're talking about, the Punisher itself is a very deep character, just try to read the first five issues of the MAX Series. If you put it the way you did everything sounds retarded. Batman: "My parents are dead and i run around in a batcostume and beat up criminals" Spiderman: "Unkle Ben, is dead, it's my fault, i love you Mary Jane!"
  • it'd be cool if it was over the top in a Sin City type of way... like if Rodriguez directed it. this still looks cool. glad it's not bandwagoning off TDK stylistically- the way a lot of post-Matrix movies did after that came out
  • Waitaminute, is Punisher fighting ZOMBIES?? That's the only reason I can find for everyone's head coming off or caving in or blowing up so easily :P
  • GUN PORN. NUFF SAID!
  • Reason
    This looks so...

Okay, before I finish let me just say, in my opinion, the Dark Knight has set new standards. I say in another way, the Dark Knight has raised the bar to skyscraper levels.

So... yeah... this looks so bad... and the shitty music in the trailer really, really, did not help things.
  • Quenfis
Yikes, that looked way B Movie in the first moments of the trailer. It's probably how it was cut, and the music was shit. The chair to the eye looked really bad. I'm scared now. I fear that this movie is not going to do well.
  • R3V3NG3
First off....this trailer looks pretty awesome. I personally didn't like the PG trailer at all, but this redeems it.

I say this because I was surprised to find out that a WOMAN directed this movie. A WOMAN...!!! One of the most stereotypical male movies.

And the whole thing about the metal song...the director didn't want that at all, she wanted a professional soundtrack, which they were working on until the studio made a dick move and they got into an argument over the final cut of the film. The composer dropped the film, and the studio decided to put some metal music through the entire film to compensate. This movie is what a Punisher movie should be.
  • gocitizen
I just watched the red trailer for the first time. How in the hell are they going to make that into PG anything and still have it play on any level. Better stick with the horse that brought ya. Too late to make decisions like this. Good or bad, I'd give Alexander the go ahead to put a chair through Lionsgate's eye. That's BS to neuter someone's work after you hired them to do it.
  • Mattkoz980
It looks good to me I was although a huge fan of the 2004 version with Thomas Jane But I will go see this and why is everyone trying to refernce everything to be like the Dak Knight Loved the film but why is everyone trying to bing it down jeez now every movie that is going into a dark tone or setting people are just going to be nothings drker then dark knight jeez Pg 13 though no way this movie will work that way.
  • castel76
First off, This movie looks to be a true vision of the max Punisher. 2004 movie was ok though Jane dint fit the role of Frank Castle. Ray looks the part, those of you that have not seen Rome go check it out it was great. The Punisher is a man or better yet lol the old testament right hand of god. He is not Micky Mantle(61). He is that man we all secretly hope is out there doing what our weak justice system wont do.The trailer looks like it is staying true to the max comic. The music on it is ...... I just realy hope there is a good story line that will keep this thing going. The Punisher is not PG.
