Boondock Saints 2 Plot Revealed

It’s been four months since Troy Duffy announced that a Boondock Saints sequel had officially been given the green light. The video of the announcement was removed from Troy’s website within hours of going live. Troy appeared on WJFK 106.7 and confirmed that “barring an actors strike” the film is scheduled to go into production in August. Duffy revealed the plot of the second film:

“You kind of wonder what has happened to the brothers… They have been living way back in the valleys of Ireland with their father on a family run sheep farm, way beyond the reach of technology or men. Way out there. It’s been sort of a bucolic existence, hard working pioneer-esque type stuff. They have long hair and beards, and stuff like that. You get the sense that they’ve been hibernating to come back. And there is an event that transpires in Boston. A priest murdered in a church and the body is rigged to make it look like the Saints did it. The one guy that the brothers and father have contact with is Il Duce’s brother. So he gets the first notion of this, puts his jeep in gear and tells the brothers what happened. And without even thinking of it the boys are up and out of there … they cut their hair, digg up their rosaries, strap on their guns, and they’re gone! And Dad has to stay back because something is wrong with him, and you can tell he doesn’t have much time left. So when the brothers smuggle themselves back to the US, back to Boston, in a very understandable way. And one of the guys they meet along the way is a Hispanic American named Romeo. And Romeo ends up becoming like the third brother or saint, fourth I guess if you’re gonna consider Billy. He’s a lot more of a bad ass than Rocco was. But his comedy is that he wants to be a lot more a part of this. So there is a lot of humor that comes from that. He’s hopefully going to be played by a friend of mine named Clifton Collins, who was in Capote and Frankie Flowers in Traffic.”

“When they land they basically start killing everything that they think is responsible for that priest’s death. And Romeo has a connection to the Hispanic underground in Boston, which over the last ten years has become pretty exceptional. That is how they are finding their information this time, instead of from Rocco in the first one. So, we’ve got some great set pieces, some big gun play and new types of stunts. But, right off the bat, we have the same three detectives back. And they are confronted … because Williem is not going to be in the second one… He is dead right off the top, and his protege, she is named Unis Bloom, she is a George peach. She’s got that doc holiday accent, super super sexy. So she’s the one going after the saints and now working with these three officers. And she’s FBI. Now immediately, the cops from the first film, they were all in on it. They helped the saints at the end of the day, they crossed over to the dark side. And they don’t know if she knows or not. That’s something we play with throughout the film. There is no love interest by the way. A lot of people hear there is going to be a female lead in Boondock and think there is going to be some kind of love interest… don’t worry about that… That’s not happening. It’s a way to throw a curb-ball at the audience.” … “So for my money, you can’t just give them everything they loved from the first one. You have to give them a new story. She is that new story. She is one hell of a firecracker. She starts going with the cops, and this helps preserve something I loved about Boondocks 1, and fans have remarked about. Billy’s character Il Duce is the third act. He blasts the story wide open. And because we’re keeping him in Ireland, he gets to do the same thing here. He comes back in the third act. The brothers, everything you think is going on, isn’t going on. Here’s the guy that did this. And it ends up being an old guy who has a connection to Billy. And you sort of figure out where this has all been going. And we go into a period flashback and we explain how Il Duce got to be Il Duce.” … “all the way to the point where he makes the first version of that leather vest.”

“Rocco is actually coming back in a dream sequence, so you will see Roc.”

You can listen to Part 1 and Part 2 of the interview on wjfk.com. Geeks of Doom also has the first production dairy from the upcoming production. I’m excited for a sequel, but am still skeptical as to if the production will actually happen or not. I’ll believe it when the first day of principle photography begins.

I couldn't even get through Duffy's blow hard synopsis without snoozing.

Didn't like the first one and am glad that 'Overnight' revealed what a phony douche bag he is.

I'll wait for Inglorious or something that's NOT directed by him.
  • M&Co
Sounds like an utterly retarded plot for an utterly retarded sequel to an utterly retarded film by an utter retard.
  • Tom
Boondock Saint is the most overrated underrated film of all time.
  • Captain Awesome
    Duffy is Tarantino-lite.
  • I liked the first one very much and I always wondered, why there has not been any sequel.
  • chris
i loved the boondock saints but this sounds absolutely retarded, and he pretty much explained the entire movie . . .
  • Captain Awesome
Charlie Sheen, you son of a bitch!
  • FoS
I enjoyed the original movie but that plot synopsis is basically identical to the original except they've switched some roles because characters are either dead or the actor doesn't wanna be part of a shitty sequel.

Y'know... Boondocks was one of those amazing cult films to hit us pre milolenia- I loved the writing, the cinematography, and of course the acting. It was clever- and by example of these comments alone- highly under-rated.

But to me this feels only one notch up From Samantha Darko (at least this time, the original creator is working on it,and god I hope they have the original actors or they will be suffering) But certaikn classics require no sequel, this being the case.

I'll go see it, I will. But I sure as shite better be seeing something good and non-half fast.

Boondock Saints was a masterpiece! In reality, the sequel should probably have them all go to jail eventually when the national guard and secret agents are sent in to kill them. The only sequel possible is the death of the Boondock Saints. Therefore no sequel is s really needed.
  • Erg. I'm all for a sequel, but I don't know.
  • YoungZe
The first movie is overrated it's not even funny anymore.
  • Joe
I really liked the first film, but this is unnecessary. Is this supposed to be a direct-to-DVD release? Certainly sounds like one.
  • Andrew
Not only was the first one a useless Tarantino ripoff directed by a total douchebag, but this one sounds even worse. Not to mention that he just gave away the entire plot, including the ending, so any urge I may have had to see this trainwreck is gone.
  • Matt
Fantastic. I love it when shitty movies get sequels. This is going to be the best movie since Baby Geniuses II. I wonder if Jon Voight is available...
  • Little Billy
Duffy is a mongoloid. Boondock Saints is a horribly made piece of crap that seems to attract the dumbest people in society. Not surprisingly, I'm sure the sequel will manage o be even more popular and ensure a trilogy for the dim-witted masses to wallow in. I hope Troy Duffy gets tea-bagged to death.
  • Tim
The first one is garbage!! Why doesn't the director just make a new movie instead of reprising his old characters? Seriously, can somebody put a bullet into Duffy?
  • jimbo stewart
    @ Tim

He can't make anything that doesn't have the Boondock Saints label on it. He was given literally every opportunity to get ahead in Hollywood and really make something of himself. The word is that Harvey Weinstein wanted to set him up as the next Tarantino and Duffy committed career suicide.

Watch the documentary 'Overnight' and you'll get the real story behind Boondock Saints
  • Nathan
Boondock saints was awful. Every person I know who liked the movie has the film iq of a toddler and the mental iq of a dead weasel.
  • JMoney
I question how anyone could say the first movie was "horrible". Was it the best movie? No, but it was good, really good I think.

But I agree this sequel sounds like a re-hash of the same stuff. Duffy is a douche, he has been milking the first movie for a decade now, always with new editions and every once in awhile something abot a sequel, just so he can sell more merc on the website. I'll be glad when this movie comes out so finally it will be over with.

But none of what I just said takes away from how much I loved the first movie. I think a lot of Irish people love the film a little too much, but its still a decent flick
  • Johnny Black
Boondock Saints is not "a classic". It is not "underrated". It is self indulgent garbage, and Troy Duffy is a hack.
  • TroyStuffy
Boondock Saints sucked. Troy Goofy is a Tarantino & John Woo hack. ppl who like it are obviously nerds liked the trench coat mafia.
  • Wow. Elite?

And, in agreement, fuck the sequel.
  • Cbears82
I don't know anything about duffy...or his lack of being able to get ahead in hollywood...but why any of that matters i have no idea. the movie could have been made by a child rapist, but if people didn't know it you'd still get the same response. i loved the first one, still have it on my comp, and can't wait for the next. hopefully its on par with the first.
  • orange cinema
i'm excited mostly to see the cast again, but its a shame about defoe. anyone know why he's not coming back? that character was truly one of a kind. i don't really care about the hate on this one, but the 'low film iq' comment was cute.
  • james
From a person who was there when they shot some of the movie in Boston, it is an interesting film.....as for people who like it and calling them tards or whatever, take your grimy somewhat legit film school book learning and cram it. If someone posted the script and you read it, not knowing anything about it, all you insignificant film snobs would start jerking off.

The movie was ok. The concept was better. Duffy killed a lot of bridges and hurt those who were attached to the film crew wise. Some people who adore this movie take it too extremes with the shirts and what not, but like I said, those who call themselves elite film people are the reason why I hate the film industry and why when I do take my film sciences degree from nyu, i will make movies for myself.

As for the squeal, no reason to get worked up over it. No one will touch it with a ten foot pole and release it. Maybe a few indie theaters like the drafthouse, but look for it on dvd i'm sure
  • The original was awesome but only accidentally. You can't duplicate something like that. As much as I would love the sequel to be half as good, I think it's gonna blow.
  • Gnairk
I loved the first movie. I didn't read the plot here, but nice to see there's a sequal on the way. Not sure how good it can be compared to the first, but we'll see.
  • Handheldmidgets
WOW....i've been coming to Rotten Tomatoes for a long time now, but never posted a comment. i always read what everyone says, and it always surprises me how much shit you guys talk about movies...they talked about Tarantino and his new movie recently, and 95 percent of the comments were people pretending they don't like him and his movies...people said Pulp Fiction was shit, Kill Bill, etc....i couldn't believe it....i mean honestly, i don't know if pretending you didn't love Reservoir Dogs back in the day is the hip thing to do now, or what....but i love Tarantino and every movie the guy has ever made. and now to the Boondock Saints. HOLY CRAP. like 3 people said good stuff about it. i was working at Blockbuster the day that movie came out, rented it, fell in love with it. i've watched it way more times than i would like to admit, and i'm sure i will watch it a few more times....i admit, the sequel doesn't sound overly exciting, especially without Willem...and him giving away the entire plot was a lame thing to do...but overall, i don't give a goddamn. it's the Boondock Saints 2, and piece of shit or not, i will be there to see it opening day, and i will wait until i walk out of the theater to decide if i need to bash it and call it a pile of dog shit or not....anyway....i'm sure i've rambled on for far too long, and if any of you actually bothered to read this, you're probably thinking "I bet that faggot likes Michael Bay movies too." well, you're right. I AM A MOVIE ADDICT, AND NOT EVERY MOVIE NEEDS TO WIN A FUCKING ACADEMY AWARD. thank you for your time
  • fooker
Haha I liked you alot until you made the Michael Bay comment... But you're forgiven in my book, he doesn't amaze but he entertains. I can't wait for the Boondock Saints sequel, and all you pretentious fuckers who are bashing the movie pre-release are the real "tards," because really, how does that make any fucking sense at all?
  • Soul
wow gotta love dumb ass movie bashers that obviously have NO IQ, dont understand film making and love to open thier mouths just to look specail or seem smart. Boondock Saints was a great movie. who made it? WHO CARES!! i make it a personnal effort to NOT know the names of the makers or even the actors. Try watching a movie for the movie. Not the actors or the directors or where it was filmed or how many awards it got or any other possible BS discriminating aspect to choose. Ive watched countless movies many of them spoken very highly of and they absolutely SUCKED and many other movies that were bashed to no end by morons and idiots like most posted here that i would gladly watch again and again for the quality far outways some of the best rated and rediculously overbudgeted movies.
  • Bull
Sweet, a sequel to a mediocre movie.
  • rourke555
i agree with handheldmidgets, i hate the way dumb shits put a movie down before its even starts filming, i believe i read alot of people saying heath ledger would suck as the joker amm i think enough said!!!, call these movies shit when you see them. and unrelated, if mr ledger doesnt get an oscar ill never watch that show again. peace
  • clerks_girl
I'm honestly suprised at how many flames the original boondocks is getting here. And of course- i'm not saying it's the best flick of all time- but yeah I stick by my statement that it truly is an amazing cult classic
  • j
why do people think boondock saints is good? it isn't.

it's a cheesy action flick like so many others... but with quasi-irish people.
  • Neal
Irish people don't "Love" the movie.

He's probably gonna insult Ireland with all this rural "far from technology" crap.

On a sheep farm!?!?!?! Could you get any more stereotypical?

Ireland isn't called the "Celtic Tiger" for nothing.

And Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus's accents were worse than horrible in the first film.

Lets hope they actually film/travel in Ireland and learn the actual accents this time.
  • Jmoney
neil, sorry when I said irish people, I meant people of Irish heritage in the US and Canada
  • Jmoney
    *Neal, sorry
  • Meli
I liked the Boondock Saints, but this plots sounds a little boring. It could turn out better once filmed, but I'm not feeling any tugs of excitement.
  • Ricky
meh. cant say im excited about this one. After watching Overnight, this guy is a complete waste of talent and even though I enjoyed the first i cant say it warrents a sequel.
  • TheLM
Hey now. Baby Geniuses 2 financed my drug habit for several months. Be kind.
  • Blake
Wow, all the hate here is really unwarranted
  • WOODY
BOONDOCK SAINTS WAS AWESOME. ANYONE THAT SAYS OTHERWISE IS RETARDED. AND ANYONE THAT SAYS IT ONLY APPEALS TO IDIOTS CAN COME FIND ME. I'LL BEAT THE TRUTH INTO THEM.
  • RachDickMay
Wow, it's fascinating that all these self-proclaimed film savants are spouting off about how abysmal the first Saints was without offering any sort of justified example to support their claims. First of all, trying to establish your credibility by boasting that anyone who enjoyed this film has a "low film IQ" says more about you than those you're abasing. If you're film sagacity was really so refined,
I'd think you'd be more inclined to defend your stance than deprecating those of differing predilection. Secondly, I realize it's a trend of the supercilious to deem something (a La Boondock Saints) that has gone from cult-esque classic to mainstream as unworthy, but the result comes across as more ostentatious and falsely pretentious than anything else. If you can provide rationale for your reasoning, than I respect you and rescind any dubiety this post may imply. Opinions (of the thorough variety) keep film, and art on a broader scale, fresh.

I believe Boondock Saints to be a great film. Sure Duffy was inspired by Tarantino et al, but every artist draws from other sources. Nothing is fully original. How can it be? Growth evolves from mimicking others. That being said, the acting was superb across the board. Dafoe in particular was delightfully unsettling. The dialogue was dark, comical, and eccentric. The score was riveting and never extraneous. The editing was fine-tuned and kept the pace at an arresting constant. I could go on, but I feel I have already achieved overkill.

I have hope for the sequel.
  • dicksalad
someone was in an AP class in high school!
  • fooker
YES. I have enormous respect for your eloquent reprisal to the disdainful arrogance of a small group of pessimistic, self-important, "cultured" windbags, and I hope that your narrative really opens their eyes to how pretentious they sound. You all should really give some argument to reinforce your opinions; otherwise it is all simply conjecture. A fine assessment, RachDickMay. You are a classy gentleman.
  • Jman
I will say this again as I said 2 years ago when this project was introduced, if they do not use Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus i will refuse to watch this movie because those two actors made the first Boondock Saints enjoyable. Troy Duffy has to get over his emotional and delusional problems so he could see that the sequel with new actors will only make him ruin this series. Maybe he's been hitting the bottle too much again...
  • BostonsOwn
How could any of you say the 1st movie was bad!!!! One of the greatest movies Boston has hosted, I cant wait to see the second one, hopefully they do make it
  • Dave
i think this film sounds great, i think duffy really knows what hes doing, i mean look how the first one turned out. hes no tarantino but this should be a decent sequel, better than hairspray 2 anyhow
